The Goldeyes are a minor league baseball team. The team plays in the American Association of Professional Baseball and joined it in 2011. During my time as a Winnipegger, this team was a part of the Northern League from 1994 until 2010. The Goldeyes were champions of the Northern League in 1994. They are also three-time champions of the American Association (2012, 2016, and 2017). The team is named after the goldeye, a fish that is a smoked delicacy and commonly called Winnipeg goldeye. The team itself isn't edible, thankfully... haha! From 1994 to 1998, the Goldeyes played their homes games at Winnipeg Stadium, which ended up being renovated for baseball after the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Canadian Football League team) moved out of this stadium and into their current home at the University of Manitoba. Winnipeg Stadium has since been demolished. The team moved into CanWest Global Park (formerly Shaw Park and now Blue Cross Park) before the 1999 season. This venue is the team's own baseball-only facility. I like that tickets to see a Goldeyes game are affordable. I got a decent seat with shade on a hot day without breaking the bank. The most expensive price for a ticket is $29.50 with taxes when you pay online before heading over to the ballpark. Prices for food are also reasonable. I got a jumbo diamond dog and a Pepsi zero. Relish was available, which made my day. The hot dog was yummy. The Pepsi zero was cold and refreshing. You can get Goldeyes merchandise at the ballpark. I ended up getting a t-shirt that was well under $30 after taxes. I had a great time despite the Goldeyes losing to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. I'm glad that I can finally say that I've been to a Goldeyes game. I hope to take in another one when I return to the city and it's baseball season. (328)

I thought this was an interesting fact because I never pictured any independent league surviving without and MLB connection. I though it was neat that baseball could produce an independent product. We paid $8 for our tickets and our seats were in section C near the left field wall. You could clearly see the whole field from out seats. We were also near the warm up mound for pitchers which was kind of neat to see. As a product, it was ok. I enjoyed myself and had fun. It was something different for me to do on a Saturday evening but I don't think I would be a regular. I could watch maybe 3 or 4 games a year just to hangout with friends somewhere different. There are a lot of families here so if you have a kid who you can enjoy baseball with you might become a fan of the Goldeyes. Fun experience!
