I was very unimpressed. My purchase was three lots, two pieces of high end furniture and a lot of pottery from the UK. Items were as described, all were located in the same room which was nice. But there was also a pile of soiled men's underwear laying on the floor in front of the dresser I purchased. These people were a very high standing family in Danville. I'm sure he wouldn't want his dirty underwear out there for everyone to see. Paperwork was laying all over the house. Personal papers. I also had an issue with people driving through my yard. I was trying to talk to the lady in charge, but she directed me to a man that was a customer. He was very rude and truly had nothing to do with the auction company. He had told my Daddy earlier he was from somewhere down in North Carolina. I hate to tell you, ma'am, you are responsible for maintaining the traffic of the customers of your sale. That's the law. Winstead's was truly a lifesaver for our family when we needed someone to handle our mother's estate on short notice. Marvin and Catherine were incredibly helpful, professional, and knowledgeable and made a very difficult time much easier. They were well-organized and had a clear idea of what was and wasn't likely to sell. They ended up taking a large truckload including furniture, decorative and household items, etc. The auction was held within a few weeks. Not pretending to be Christie's or Sotheby's, but at Winstead's you never know what you'll find except nice people, a fascinating mix of merchandise and excellent and entertaining auctioneers. Beware!! I had a scheduled time to pick up my items. The administrator decided to leave 10 minutes before we arrived. She had my cell phone but never attempted to call. When i finally reached her thru another winstead employee (who knew nothing of our arrival) she refused to come back. She know I was coming for 1.5 hrs away plus i had another worker with me to help load. So i wasted most of day, i had to pay an employee for just riding, plus a $40 in gas. I have made over 5 attempts to contact her since then. NO RESPONSE!!!! Finally had to report them to the fraud department of my credit card read more

My mother had to move from her apartment to a nursing home requiring serious down sizing. It was difficult letting go of family items but Winstead gave us confidence that they understood the value of our items. They made the process easy from beginning to end. Just not a well run business. Several times I have asked to be a phone bidder and the employee says I tried twice or 3 times and your phone didn't work.....right. If you can get the owner on the phone or to answer your call you have won the lottery, and then it's excuse after excuse. There are just too many other auction houses that do it better and more professional. Horrible read more

Have always had a fun time at Winstead's Auctions and have bought some priceless items there. The furniture, china, silver and other high-end items may be purchased at a very reasonable price. I love the owners and all the staff who work there. read more
