I had my doubts about staying here again after last time but I had hoped that things had changed. This hotel could be amazing with its downtown location with proper maintenance and improved customer service. I did park in the garage across the street and the walkway was unlocked this time. So I had high hopes for this stay as I was off to a better start. I was given a room on a high floor but not given a choice of a welcome gift so I had to go back to see where my $10 food voucher was. I wasn't told about the M-Club either. How do you forget to mention that? When I got to my room, the door wasn't unlocking after multiple tries. So back to the front desk. The elevators were very slow at that time of day. I was given new keys and maintenance met me at the room and it seemed to be working. That is until I needed to get in again. It took between 10 and 20 tries to get in and I was pulling the door forward like it was suggested. My last night in the hotel after 21 tries, I went back to the desk and was given a new key and told maintenace would be up again. Fifteen minutes later I was still waiting. I called the front desk to see where maintenance was and as I was on the call I could hear their conversation too. He said he didn't get the text. When maintenance arrived after 20 minutes he told me they sent him to the wrong room which wasn't true. Then I was told I wasn't pushing the handle down hard enough. I had tried everything I could to get in the room so that wasn't true as I could hear the deadbolt engaging but at that point I was just glad to get in the room and know I'd just have to deal with the door one more time before I'd be on my way from here. Be careful around the elevator doors as they don't seem to have the safety feature to open if something is in the way when the doors are closing. Parking was $25 a night for Valet or $20 a night in the garage. The room was a good size on the 17th floor and had nice views and mostly clean. Cable was limited but there is the streaming option. The clock was still an hour off. The M-Club is the best part of the hotel. The staff was wonderful and actually explained to me the hours it operates as the check in clerk skipped all of that. It is open 24/7 but staffed for breakfast; dinner and deserts. There was a wonderful selection of food. I loved the gummies and was told the brand so I could get more from the store.

I'm struggling between 2 and 3 stars here, but the comfort of the bed and comforter is enough to cross the line to 3. I'm trying not to be jaded because I tend to see hotels for what they are and not against each other, but it's rather difficult in this case. The parking was impossible to figure out on your own; the bell captain wanted my keys when I was only checking in (heh?!); and the cable TV channel availability was limited. On the upside, the bed was very comfy and had tons of pillows. The bath was a good size, and the hairdryer was a normal size (not that so-tiny-it-fits-in-your-hand deal you get at most places). Room service was fairly fast, though I was disappointed with what they brought -- both times. The TV was a nice flat screen. Additional info: ...No complimentary breakfast ...Room service is normally overpriced, but here you don't even get enough food! ...They can email receipts for those of us who prefer to do electronic expense reports

This hotel is located in the heart of downtown inside the original RJR building. The front desk staff are all professional, friendly and kind, each encounter with desk staff was exceptional. Valet parking is the only real option, unless you want to drive around looking for a limited parking spot. All of the valet team are professional, courteous and timely each went above and beyond for us. Very comfortable accommodations. We stayed in a king room the first time for a weekend and a king suite for the weeks stay. Both are comfortable, the suite's size and separate seating area definitely make it worth the difference if your stay is extended. King bed, very comfortable, quality linens, very quiet soundproofing with high ceilings and heavy drapery with modern minimalist wall decor. The bathrooms in both are nice the suite, another level of comfort. Walk in large shower with a vessel tub within the shower enclosure. This hotel is one of the higher end in town, it trys to hit those marks. Better than most. 4 Stars rounded up a full star for the steller staff here from the front desk, to valet team, housekeeping and room service everyone makes your stay here better. 01150

This was a special event, and the dinner menu is not quite yet solidified, but I want to a) talk about the delicious food, b) the beauty of the inn, and c) the hospitable and friendly staff at the Inn/Restaurant. The Inn itself is beautiful and historic. It's located in the heart of downtown Winston, but has its own parking lot which is a huge plus. Our dinner was in a reserved room on a Friday evening. It was a great room for our group of about 11-12. Our waiter, Gary, was THE BEST! He had a radiant personality, and was super attentive! The chefs (Kelly and Juan) came out to talk to us and were a pleasure. The food! I can't wait for this to be a constant menu at the restaurant! We had Fried Green Tomatoes, Mandarin and Goat Cheese Walnut Salad, Braised Short Rib over polenta dish, and Crème Brûlée cheesecake. YUM! And the drinks were very unique and delicious. I am so looking forward to another trip back to Founder's! I absolutely can't wait to try brunch!

Chosen family- John has been family to the brides side since before she was born. We arrived at 3pm on a cool, fall Saturday in November. The grounds beg to be explored, the history of the house has secrets in her stairwells and rooms. The architecture breathtaking. We waited by the koi pond until it was time to take our seats in the lower garden for the ceremony. Cocktail hour was outside as well and the temperature was dropping. We couldn't wait to get inside for dinner. Well- it wasn't much warmer indoors. The dining area was split between two rooms, one of which was a sun room- all glass doors around the room. The interior room had a giant fireplace blazing in the center. We sat in the outer room- my shawl stayed on throughout dinner. I wore fleece leggings under my gown because I am always cold, but even that wasn't enough. The staff! They wowed me- from escorting guest to the powder rooms (clear on the other side of the house), to the bartenders making drinks the whole night, to the servers working our side of the dining room. Every member of the staff was beyond helpful and friendly. Amanda and Katherine worked the bar & were fantastic! And the servers I encountered all hustled while helping the guests- Christian, Dylan & Kelton were on our dining room team. Special shout out to all of them, they made a great impression. Food- fresh salad and warm dinner rolls were set down first. Wine glasses filled & water glass too. John and I both opted for steak as our main- cooked perfectly and I know that's not easy when catering an event. The whipped potatoes and green beans perfection. The table were set beautifully. The dance floor was in the pool room, the put the floor down right over it! Which was comical because of the bounce in the floors once the dancing began. Being cold the whole time, I couldn't wait for the dj to turn it up. They had the doors open for the dance floor room leading out to the lower gardens where the nuptials were earlier. At this point the sun had set and all of the guest were cold. That was my only complaint- we needed heat for cocktail hour and definitely heat for dinner. Once the dancing began, I warmed up quickly & even had to take 10 outside, without my shawl, to cool down! The festivities were to go on till 10:30pm, but some of us more seasoned guests departed before that. I really hope to come back and explore the estate in the future.

Unfortunately, this time around, it was quite frankly disappointing. While the check-in process went smoothly and the basics were in place, I encountered a few issues that significantly impacted my stay. First, the internet connection was very slow for an entire day. It eventually resolved itself, but since I work remotely, this was more than a minor inconvenience. The real deal-breaker came the following morning. I woke up early and went into the bathroom, only to see a roach crawling near the toilet. That alone is enough to question the hotel's cleanliness standards. On top of that, the bed frame sticks out awkwardly beyond the mattress--something that became painfully obvious when I bumped my shin on it in the middle of the night. Overall, the cleanliness and upkeep of this location leave a lot to be desired. Based on my first stay, I expected more, but after this experience, I won't be returning. I understand that front desk staff can be busy; however, a simple greeting or acknowledgment goes a long way and is a basic expectation in hospitality.
