12/30/25 I reserved a room at the Marriott Winston-Salem for one night through the Marriott app. My wife and I were on our way to Asheville for New Year's, and I thought this would be a good stop to explore the area before continuing the trip. We are Titanium Elite members, and I still had a few Suite Night (upgrade) rewards available. After booking, the app wouldn't allow me to apply the upgrade, so I emailed the hotel to ask if one could still be used. I also mentioned that we were celebrating my wife's birthday and our 15th anniversary. When we arrived, the front desk associate thanked us for being Titanium Elite and told us she had upgraded our room. She then wished my wife a happy birthday and mentioned she had received my email -- which was very much appreciated. The room was an excellent upgrade. It included a small kitchenette, a family room with a couch and large TV, and a dining table that could seat six people. The bedroom was spacious with another TV, and the bathroom was a nice size with a walk-in shower. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The only negatives were related to lighting. The family room could really use more lighting, as there was only one lamp behind the couch. During the day it's fine with natural light, but at night it felt dim. Also, there is no light switch between the bedroom and bathroom, so we had to leave the shower light on because the hallway to the bathroom is very dark. One nice bonus is an excellent Mexican restaurant located right outside the hotel's front entrance. The food was very good and made for a convenient dinner option. Overall, a great stay with a fantastic upgrade and attentive service. We would definitely stay here again. Also after returning from dinner we came up to our room and there was a wonderful cheese and meat board on the coffee table with a Happy Birthday card for my wife. Very generous read more

We have stayed at the Winston-Salem Marriott quite a bit recently and overall it is a pleasant experience. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Some areas could benefit from a little updating. The M Club is a great perk with attentive, friendly staff. Tonight's dessert deserves five stars! Chocolate lava cakes with strawberries and homemade ice cream. I had my doubts about staying here again after last time but I had hoped that things had changed. This hotel could be amazing with its downtown location with proper maintenance and improved customer service. I did park in the garage across the street and the walkway was unlocked this time. So I had high hopes for this stay as I was off to a better start. I was given a room on a high floor but not given a choice of a welcome gift so I had to go back to see where my $10 food voucher was. I wasn't told about the M-Club either. How do you forget to mention that? When I got to my room, the door wasn't unlocking after multiple tries. So back to the front desk. The elevators were very slow at that time of day. I was given new keys and maintenance met me at the room and it seemed to be working. That is until I needed to get in again. It took between 10 and 20 tries to get in and I was pulling the door forward like it was suggested. My last night in the hotel after 21 tries, I went back to the desk and was given a new key and told maintenace would be up again. Fifteen minutes later I was still waiting. I called the front desk to see where maintenance was and as I was on the call I could hear their conversation too. He said he didn't get the text. When maintenance arrived after 20 minutes he told me they sent him to the wrong room which wasn't true. Then I was told I wasn't pushing the handle down hard enough. I had tried everything I could to get in the room so that wasn't true as I could hear the deadbolt engaging but at that point I was just glad to get in the room and know I'd just have to deal with the door one more time before I'd be on my way from here. Be careful around the elevator doors as they don't seem to have the safety feature to open if something is in the way when the doors are closing. Parking was $25 a night for Valet or $20 a night in the garage. The room was a good size on the 17th floor and had nice views and mostly clean. Cable was limited but there is the streaming option. The clock was still an hour off. The M-Club is the best part of the hotel. The staff was wonderful and actually explained to me the hours it operates as the check in clerk skipped all of that. It is open 24/7 but staffed for breakfast; dinner and deserts. There was a wonderful selection of food. I loved the gummies and was told the brand so I could get more from the store. read more

First of all... I asked the bartender where the stairs were because they are super hard to find. She said and I quote, "oh there are no stairs here." I was like, "There have to be stairs, what if there was a fire?" She laughed and was like I have never seen the stairs here before but I guess you're right. Wow. Just wow. Train your employees on important things like knowing where the stairs are! That's terrible. Seems like first day important information to know. The stairs themselves should be labeled better. There should be signs pointing you in the right direction... Like hey you have to walk up to the second floor and then go through these doors by the bathrooms hidden around a corner and then take the first door on the left through those two doors into this ghetto looking hallway. It is also difficult to find the stairs on each floor if you don't know where they are. So, in case there is actually a fire or an emergency and the elevators are broken, they are across from room "01" on whichever floor you are on near the ice machine area. For example we were on floor 7 so they were across from 701. The whole reason we asked about the stairs was because the elevators are very slow. We ended up only being able to take the elevator twice the whole weekend. We took the stairs every time we went up and down so we wouldn't be late for all our events since there were too many people waiting for the elevators. You would think that a hotel built to hold so many people would have enough elevators to take them to where they are staying... If you get a group rate price you can't get breakfast included with your room. There is no microwave in each room like some business hotels and the fridge wasn't very cold and despite pushing the "chill" button a few times while we were there it wouldn't get colder. Overall mediocre. For the price, subpar. The proximity to the convention center is the only reason they get a star. It was pretty sad even someone who worked there did not know where to find the stairs. That's unacceptable. We will not be staying here again. read more

BED BUGS!!!! If I could leave less stars I WOULD. It's not the fact this hotel had bed bugs, I grew up in Chicago these things happen I get it! It's the way the staff handled it. Walking up at 5 am itching and scratching was a terror with in its self then when I called the front desk to have them handle it I was told "well we can just change your rooms" after explaining that bedbugs are an infestation, and would transfer with me to the next room and then my home! I was told by the manager, "well that's the best we can do its probably just mosquito bites but we'll get a engineer up there" Once an " engineer" AKA Maintenance knocked on my door. He barged in and started an imp prompt to turn down service. With his cell phone, flashlight. He asked if I had seen any bugs and I told him I had not, but they're very difficult to see and run away from the light and then proceeded to show him my chewed up arm. In which he responded." oh, those are just mosquitos." After being gaslit for a second time that I had just mosquito bites, I started to become upset and explain to the gentleman that I have been in a showroom and then the hotel the entire time for furniture, retail market! I then explained that all my clothes needed to be laundered and then I needed to change rooms automatically. He informed me that they were not gonna do that for just mosquitoes, but I could transfer rooms if I would like, taking the bed bugs with me. I told him to please confirm, but that I had to go to work and to go ahead and give me a call once they had confirmation that I definitely had bedbugs! This was at 7:30 in the morning! About 10:30 AM the Manager called me and still refuse to say the words bedbug but instead said "we have confirmation, will have your stuff steamed and transferred to a different room." I asked him to please launder my clothing as some of it needed to be dry cleaned or it would be ruined. This did not happen. They in fact, took all of my clothing, including my dirty clothes and threw them in an industrial size dryer, shrinking and destroying multiple things! Marriott, please come up with a better protocol for bed bug other than gaslighting your guests (mosquito bites, give me a break!) and destroying their things! Oh, but they did give me $75 to their in-house restaurant, along with M club lounge access which seems to be their go to when they make mistake! All while still telling me, after an Orkin mans conformation that the room was infested, that my bites could still have been mosquito bites! read more

I was surprised by the low rating, as this hotel is perfectly fine: 1. Very gracious, helpful and professional staff. No issues, and pleasantly surprised by how kind everyone was. 2. Great gym. Very large and spacious and lots of treadmills and other equipment. 3. M Club lounge was very good. Note: alcohol is NOT free. 4. Quick trip from PTI/GSO Airport: about 25 minutes. 5. Seems to be in the center of downtown, so no issues walking to business meetings. I'll gladly stay here again. Thanks for a nice stay here! read more

Update: Ms Charity was extremely helpful and eased my fears. She was also able to locate my firearm. I am grateful. For the most part, the hotel is nice. Unfortunately, we didn't utilize the restaurant because we were in town for an event. I did have one issue. I was extremely irresponsible and left my firearm. I know exactly where I placed it. I called back a few hours later. The 'manager' called housekeeping at home to see if they'd found it. (Doesn't make any sense to me, but we'll go with that story.) Then hotel staff seemed 'surprised' I filed a police report. OF COURSE! The world kinda sucks. I now have added to the problem. But I also don't feel confident that the 'manager' seemed concerned or looked when after hearing I'd called the police he said 'I'm not actually the manager. I have no clue what to do in these situations.' I literally just would like whomever picked the firearm up to lock it up in an office. Or, contact the WS police. read more

I'm being nice and giving 2 stars because the gym was only good thing about this dump. Quick points - location sucks and close to the crack heads, hallway and light fixtures are broke, elevators look like a loading dock, most of the carpets are trashed, the room was fine. I understand why these big older hotels are a thing of the past. The place needs a major overhaul. I would recommend Kimpton Cardinal for pretty much same price. If anyone thinks this place is very nice they should be chillin with the drunks behind the building. read more

The staff was gracious and accomodating, the room was clean, the hotel is nicely situated downtown. I like that shopping & restaurants are within walking distance. The M Club - not as great as New Orleans Marriott (only other M Club I've been to), but really, the Rockefeller oysters & she-crab sliders they had on their supper (well, not quite supper, more like appetizers) bar was very good. The breakfast was a bit lacking - perhaps on par with other places but without the make-your-own waffle iron. The snack bar had a nice variety of candies, trail mix & cookies. read more

I recommend staying at this Winston-Salem Marriott, and if I returned to the area, I wouldn't bother too much looking at other stays. Sure, the overall three-star average threw me off a bit, and apparently, they have renovated recently, but I don't have much feedback for them. My breakdown: ***** 1) LOCATION & PARKING: It resides in the heart of Downtown Winston-Salem and is a localvore's dream. Coffee shops, small cafes, mini-grocery stores -- you name it! Regarding parking, they do have decks all around, but I took advantage of their affordable valet. 2) ROOM: Even though the building itself could use an upgrade, minus the lobby, I dug my modern-designed and clean place. I especially love their bed, which might be similar to the Springhill Suites one, which has the ideal firmness. Jumping into the sheets after a shower felt like being hugged by a loving cloud. 3) GYM: As a road warrior, I try my best to stay healthy, and I appreciate their gym. Sure, some of their machines done work -- looking at you, overhead press -- but it has to be one of the biggest I've seen at a Marriott. I also loved the amount of sunlight that beamed through the windows above, and the smith machine. (Can't hurt to have complimentary bottled water, either!) ***** Again, if I ever return the area, I won't hesitate to book another stay here. read more

Excellent Service! We stayed over night after a long day at Wake Forest Baptist Medical. Dinner was delicious at the Bistro. The room and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was wonderful. But most of all the staff gave us excellent service all around. read more

**I do not give any hotels 5 stars** This hotel is clean beyond clean! Pros: Front desk was friendly when my digital key didn't come through. Parking is behind the Marriott after you get the code from the front and is $10 a day. There is a parking garage across the street for the same price but have to pay every time you exit. Room was so clean, like super clean and I'm an OCD, carry my own cleaners, and sleep sheet gal. Bed was super comfortable. Rooms are very quiet, I didn't have to use my ear plugs. Gym is on the 3rd floor. It's nice and big. Cons: Nothing Tips- gym 3rd floor, Marriott parking on LL, and parking garage deck on floor 2. Both garages $10 a day read more

I'm struggling between 2 and 3 stars here, but the comfort of the bed and comforter is enough to cross the line to 3. I'm trying not to be jaded because I tend to see hotels for what they are and not against each other, but it's rather difficult in this case. The parking was impossible to figure out on your own; the bell captain wanted my keys when I was only checking in (heh?!); and the cable TV channel availability was limited. On the upside, the bed was very comfy and had tons of pillows. The bath was a good size, and the hairdryer was a normal size (not that so-tiny-it-fits-in-your-hand deal you get at most places). Room service was fairly fast, though I was disappointed with what they brought -- both times. The TV was a nice flat screen. Won this hotel via a bid for Saturday night, and it was very much of a win-win! We were greeted warmly by the Valet, given our parking options: Park across the street in a deck for $9. $12 for in and out privileges, or $15 to Valet it. We opted for the latter. Lobby looked very nice and we were welcomed at the front desk by Sean, who proceeded to make us feel very welcome and comfortable. This continued throughout our stay with personal touches such as restaurant suggestions, a phone call and hand-written note. Our King room on the 8th floor was just great! Bed couldn't have been more comfortable. I always love all the Marriott pillows. The AC/Heat was a touch-screen that worked great! As for the bathroom, the only small negative would be the older slow-type toilet. And I do mean small, as it really impacted us zero. Loved the location! Restaurants/Bars/Coffee Shops nearby...the Arts District even has wind chimes on some of the posts. As for the hotel bar/restaurant, Graze, I have reviewed it separately, but loved the beer & wine specials!!! Hands-down the best we've ever seen in a hotel! We did not use the fitness center, but peaked in and it looked pretty nice. (We get credit for considering using though, right?) It was good with some problems. Let's start with the tea, shall we, isn't that what you came to hear - the problems? 1)We had booked a meeting space for our first day here and it was a baking oven. It was very hot and luckily I had come off of a flight and had back to back calls so I could not change into my business casual attire from my resort like attire and I was okay but everyone else was visibly sweating. 2)The M lounge is excluuuuuusive. In that, the guy inside was checking people like they were going into an Adele concert. He kicked people out who could not show proper identification post-haste. The food was ehh but it was free. Coffee's, some warm eggs, breads, yogurts, and others. Basically your 1/2 effort continental breakfast that doesn't wow but satisfices. 3)I was given a key to a dirty room. I don't know if the previous tenant was in there but the TV was on, bed was a mess, and bathroom light was on. It makes you think about how you treat the cleaning service when they have to enter your room, disgraceful. 4)Checking in, the first person who helped me was short with me and I did not want to talk to her. Regardless she notified me that they had no rooms and to return. I did ~2pm and I met with another person who had an European accent but was very helpful. I ended up on the top floor which was great and the room had a broken mirror. To save myself from paying for it, I went back down to the desk and spoke to the same person previous with the European accent and she was surprised and was ready to find another room when, i think she is management, other person said - ya we are aware it is broken and there is nothing we can do about right now. Okay. I hope you don't get stuck in the elevator because the same mentality means a night in the lift. The restaurant was really good on-sight (Butcher & Bull) so consider eating there. Otherwise it was fine, the self park is across the street accessible via bridge on the second floor for $20/day and valet is $25. I did the valet service and for valet they park it behind the building in a lot. Nice hotel nonetheless and there are some bars around the corner. I want to add, I started at 4 star, then 3, and ended at 2 considering that the room was damaged and they are aware but won't fix it. read more

Our room was super clean and modern design, and I liked how it wasn't carpet. The hotel itself seems a bit old and the elevators and hallway designs were older, but the rooms were modern. Check in was easy and staff was nice. There is valet parking, or a parking garage across the street that has a connecting walking bridge into the second floor. Parking in the garage costs $20 a day. There is free street parking in certain areas on the weekend, so we parked one week day in the garage and then moved it on the weekend. I thought parking was expensive. But the hotel is near lots of cafes and restaurants, which I liked walking to. read more

Do NOT stay in room 1501 oh my gosh you get zero peace. The elevator runs every few seconds and it sounds like it is in this room. Such a shame .... The hotel room is not bad at all but I am in this room and literally I am about to lose my mind it is SO loud. I hope the elevator slows down over the night or there will be NO sleep. Really nice hotel. We came during a busy weekend and they still were very accommodating. The gentleman with the valet service was so nice and even joked with us. Dinner was delicious at the Butcher and Bull. The continental breakfast for members was also very good. But the highest point was the front desk attendant Talisha. She was so pleasant and helpful. Decent rooms and common areas. The elevators need work. The restaurant closes at 10 which is early for a business hotel bar. Being decent really is bad in the hotel business from my point of view. I prefer nice or better. Parking is either valet $24/night or $20 per night at the public car park across the street. All thing considered, when in Winston-Salem (which the city itself is like Toledo,OH without all the glitter) stay at the really nice Hotel Indigo which is a short walk from the Marriott. read more

It's sad that I'm giving them a poor review as most of the employees are very nice with the exception of a few. Stayed here for a long work trip and the night shift at the front desk and the valet were very rude and unprofessional. Poor attitudes all around and I constantly had to wait for them to get off their phones watching videos before I could get their attention. The valet sat across the hall and had his AirPods in watching Netflix. When I walked up to inquire about where I should leave my car he was annoyed and said nothing just held out his hand while watching his show. The rest of the staff was very friendly but the late night crew not so much. read more

I normally stay with Hilton but tried Marriott on my latest visit to Winston and was highly disappointed. My room was extremely hot and so uncomfortable I could not sleep. When I asked the front desk, I was told they do not allow temp to be below 68 (which felt like 74) and the fan was not allowed to be on for more than 2 hours - it would automatically cut off. Love Marriott like always and this one is no exception. It is located in a prime area of the city and is in walking distance of many great places. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean. I love Marriott beds. Park less than a block down the road..in the parking garage instead of valet....it's $2 a day on weekends and if you leave on Sunday, you pay nothing. Whoohoo! read more

Stolen items: stayed here for a few days everything was normal and nice then on the second day of my stay as I was leaving the room the housekeeping asked me to clean the room, long story short when I returned to my room my luggage and my brothers stuff were both missing (about $1000 worth of stuff). we reported it to the hotel and said they couldn't do anything until tomorrow, so tomorrow comes by we had to leave that morning,I made the police report as instructed and they told us to call the the hotel tomorrow due to there general manager not being there, so we called and they didn't answer for another few days then finally they answer and after our conversation about what happens she said she would be in contact in 1-3 business days but not it's been 3 months and they ghosted us :/ read more

Very much your average Marriott as far as the property itself. Clean, nondescript, predicable. Many times when you're on the road, you just want something you know is going to be a good place to sleep and shower. This is that kind of place. They have the newer style Marriott rooms with minimal storage areas and rolling barn door to the bathroom (can't wait for this moment to be over). Toiletries were adequate. No magnifying mirror in the bathroom, which is a pet peeve of mine, but they did have a large mirror in the room so one person can do hair and makeup while another is in the bathroom. M Club is on the ground level with key-controlled entry. Breakfast was adequate for a club lounge. Front desk and valet service was friendly and helpful. Excellent location for the minor league baseball stadium. read more

Going through some current renovations, this Marriott is well on its way to becoming one of those extremely nice updated Marriott's! The rooms have been completed with the wood laminate flooring, large flat screen tv's, and modern design bathrooms! Now I will say that the carpeted Marriott design is still my favorite, but that's certainly on its way out! The concierge lounge isn't open right now as it goes through its makeover, but if you push back a bit you can get accommodated if you're an Elite member. Like most Marriott's, the restaurant is a quality experience, the common areas are plentiful, and the overall experience is predictably great! read more

I stayed here one night and would certainly stay here again. This was a real nice Marriott with a full restaurant and bar serving breakfast; lunch and dinner. The rooms were very nice and the hotel had a nice, new and traditional feel to it. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and the rooms and lobby were very inviting and clean. It's located right in the heart of downtown which made it easy to get to various places quickly. You can either park across the street from the hotel or simply pull up front and valet; in and out parking is $15 per day. I would certainly recommend this place. EDIT: Stayed here in April 2018 and is currently going through a renovation. Pool is closed, though rooms are extremely nice and everything accessible. read more

This Marriott location was meh...and I am a Marriott fan. My past experience at other locations set the bar that I could trust the brand. This location is slightly different. The environment looks dated; they do not have the traditional Marriott breakfast buffet; the carpet on the hallway was stained; the elevators are SLOW; the front desk staff seemed more invested in chatting with each other than helping guest approaching the counter. On check in, the receptionist wanted to convince me I had a reservation for 2 rooms, and I told him I did not. I had offered to confirm my reservation # with him, and he declined indicating he knew what he was looking at. After some pressing, he finally asked another coworker to look at the reservation, more so to prove me wrong, and the coworker pointed out he was on the wrong reservation. He never apologized for not listening to me, and his demeanor became indifferent through the check in process. The next day, we never received room service. We had to call close to 2pm and ask for room service. I don't believe I will choose Marriott in this city again. read more

So I saw this hotel back in 2008 - and back then this was dreadful (like one star dreadful)... but two renovations later... I stayed here for a wedding and thought this was a splendid place. 1. All the furnishings, decorations, walls, and etc seemed decently new and well taken care of. 2. The service was wow Southern hospitality at its finest (especially the valet folks - they are the hardest working people in any hotel I have ever seen). 3. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION... walkable to everything you need in Winston 4. Warning parking is a bit rough... but great in the grand scheme of things for a downtown hotel. 5. At check in Stephanie was so friendly and helpful. She told us where we could park and gave us the items we needed. At checkout Nicole was equally as friendly. Had a fantastic stay at this hotel while attending a race at Bowman Gray Stadium. Great location. Our room was very contemporary . Large comfortable bed. The bedding was soft. Beautiful wood floors. Large windows overlooking the city. A contemporary couch with table. Large glass shower. Big t.v. Nice bar in the lobby. The only thing missing was a pool. I called ahead and asked for a stand up shower as someone in our party is 6'8" and hardly fits in the tub shower. We weren't given that, but we didn't make a big deal out of it as we booked from a discount booking site. Then I couldn't sleep because there was a dog barking all night, after I was told no pets were allowed. I spoke with the front desk and asked to change rooms based on the noise and if I could please have the room with the stand up shower. They were kind enough to say yes. The next room they gave us smelled like cigarette smoke. They were gonna switch us again so we were getting ready for a reservation when the power went out so we were just stuck in the room for a while. Around 8 pm we finally got another room. We never got room refreshed nor did we get any other toiletries until we asked for them from the front desk the last night we were there. The rooms weren't really clean. All in all, it was a terrible experience. Interestingly enough, we ran into a couple of people who booked through the hotel (not a booking site like we did) and their rooms were stellar and received housekeeping service, fresh towels, and toiletries. It's strange how that works. Lastly, the room we settled in did not have a working phone. In this day and age, treating everyone the same should be a benchmark in the hospitality industry as well as life itself. The front desk staff was polite. So that's a plus. read more

Came to Winston Salem for work & this Marriott was within walking distance Bed was okay & the room was very quiet which is saying something since the hotel was sold out - I was expecting people & noise galore Free wifi; a/c was powerful; super nice staff Water pressure was more than decent & the hot water was actually hot - score Only downer was paying $15 / day for parking Would stay here again. Can't even get a complimentary cup of coffee in this place! Everything is nickeled and dimed to death. Honestly the hotel isn't worth the nonsense nickel and diming. I wish we had chosen the hotel next door where our friends stayed. read more

If you're in town and looking to practice your latest insomnia lessons then look no further than the Marriott. Founded by what's left from the fireman's relief fund, this shack slump has everything: -Paper thin doors, -Loud and echoing 2am hallway staff conversations, -Carpeting that has been installed the same year the tobacco company's established, -authentic mid-century asylum ward caved-in wall sockets, -An 1838 naturally discolored futon featuring various human bodily fluid stains, -CURTAINS! -A WWII style adamantium spring loaded beds that feel like a bouncy Castle on steroids, -pillows filled with inmate toenail clippings, -a human Kurig: [What's that ?] it's that thing when you pour hot water and ground coffee into a midgets mouth and then shake it. And in 30 minutes your coffee comes out the other end! And let's not forget their lobby restaurant GRAZE, which if everything else fails, will still remind you that this place is nothing but a giant stable. 10/20/15 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For me to have come back and added more to my review should really inform the reader about how bad this place is. An upgrade on the prison beds is imperative. What an awful experience. This place provides only a shelter from the elements, it might as well be a cave with rooms because you are sleeping on a "bedrock" ! The worst part is that there's no competition in town, there's a Fairfield on the other side of town and it's relatively far from the shops and restaurants area. So brace yourself, you're in for a treat. Try to catch as much asleep as you can during the day in your business meetings, during cab rides or simply sleep walking around town because this hotel is guaranteed to keep you awake and uncomfortable all night. .
