Second time here in a couple of weeks. Why? There is a dedicated non-smoking room for families. The food is good bar food, wholesome and not pretentious. I've had better caesar salad, but this is in the top three. Tonight, the Bride had the smothered burger (without a bun) and it was cooked to perfection. My Chicken Mushroom Mushroom was very good, although a bit stiff. Service was a bit spotty with 2 ladies working a busy dining room with 2 large tables and several smaller ones. Winstons is a great place for a quick bite and great drinks. The steaks are reasonably priced and good quality. My husband loved the Caesar salad, loaded baked potato and ribeye. Our ribeyes were perfectly cooked and seasoned. My sautéed garlic broccoli was a little limp, but edible. Be aware that there is a non-smoking part of the restaurant to the right. The bar is smoking on the left side. We did not smell any smoke in the restaurant, so they have excellent ventilation. Our waitress was very friendly, timely and responsive. The decor is a little outdated and my bench seat was severely cracked, so could use a few updates. read more

Where should I start. We had a party of 5. The potato soup was served cold, so was the prime rib - and it was like shoe leather. I'd give the waitress a break but seriously, if it's not piping hot at the pass you shouldn't bring it out. The opaqueness of the fat on the prime rib was a clear indicator it was cold. The lack of any steam coming off the soup was also a very clear indicator. Now onto the fish and chips - Absolutely revolting. Don't get me started on how it was battered (or lack thereof). It like some sort of freak cracker crumble that barely covered the fish. That crunch of biting into the crispy beer batter is essential to decent fish and chips - fail number 1. The the crispy chips (fries) - not so crispy. Fail number two. The only thing that seemed to be in any way decent was the burger we ordered. But even then the fries exuded a state of boringness that almost made us all feel like Eeyore had an exciting life. The cook has one job, make the food and do it well - almost total fail here. The wait staff too has one job - serve the drinks, keep them full, bring the food out hot and don't bring it out if it's not. Then there is the smoke - Blech! Even though they allegedly have the smoking an non-smoking sides separated the bleed through is profound. And the waitresses all smelled like smoke as a result because they worked both sides. This used to be a go to place for Burgers and Wings. We went tonight for burgers to find out that NO one, including the staff was wearing mask or protective gear. They are now using the old plastic menus that looked like they had not been wiped off for a while. We were going to sit on the porch and asked the waitress about them not wearing masks or checking temperatures, like the more health concerned restaurants. The waitress looked like I had insulted her for asking and could have cared less about our concerns. We noticed no one in the whole restaurant being concerned about Covid19. So, if you have concerns about Covid, choose another restaurant that concerns themselves with your health. There are a lot of good restaurants that are still following the Covid guidelines on safety. Gave this bar a try after eating here once many years ago. Had a really good experience. This place has been here many years, at least 15 -- I'm a little surprised there aren't more reviews. This seems like a classic neighborhood bar with a bunch of regular patrons. There's a smoke free restaurant area, and then the bar is in a separate section where smoking is allowed. When I visited, it was not really too smoky and didn't bother me. The bar is square shaped with bar stools around on all sides. There are also a lot of high tables around the bar. There was plenty of seating on a Thursday early evening, and I grabbed a spot at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and did not just cater to the regulars. I got really good service. I saw around 12 or so beers on tap. The selections were pretty standard and there wasn't a big craft beer presence. I got a Terrapin IPA -- I think it was actually Hopsecutioner, but I couldn't see the tap too well. The menu is very large with a lot of choices, mainly typical pub food, with a lot of sandwiches, burgers, and so forth. On the back of the menu they list their daily specials. When I went, the special was a deluxe grilled cheese for $6.95. I ordered this with a side of sweet potato fries. There is a big list of options for sides that the bartender listed out for me. The sweet potato fries were a premium side that cost me $.50 extra. The sandwich was good, a little different from what I anticipated. It had bacon and tomato in addition to the cheese. It was a little on the small side but well worth the price of $6.95. If I lived a little closer by, like within walking distance, I'd probably come here all the time to enjoy a few drinks and an inexpensive meal. read more

I came here because I had a scoutmob for the place. I wasn't expecting much when I showed up but it was a pleasant surprise. They have $2.25 draft beers for Busch and some pretty good dirty wings. I came here tonight (10/23/2020). I had just gotten off of work (as a bartender), and decided to stop in, as it is very close to my house. I have only frequented this establishment twice. Stephanie was so rude from the get go. I have been bartending for 6 years now and have NEVER left a negative review on a establishment. Stephanie never approached me with a "Hey, what can I get you to drink?" Instead I had to stop her and ask for a drink. She checked my ID up and down as if it was fake. Cool, I get it. You have to be careful because you never know. You still should have some manners afterward?! I asked her if the kitchen was still serving food, (my husband had called me 3 minutes prior to me showing up, (he was there) (she didn't know this) and I heard him ask the bartender "Stephanie" on the phone, if they were still serving food. She said yes, only fried food. Awesome, I get there 3 minutes later and ask to order potato skins. Her response (BTW- SO RUDE) "We stopped serving food a while ago". My response- "Okay, I was just asking because I just heard my husband (literally on speaker phone) ask if you were still serving fried food, and your response was yes". She said "Papa Johns is open next door, try them". Like what in the actual f?? That is so rude. THEN she walks out of the kitchen with food in her hand for another table!! I'm already there so of course I continue to finish my drink. I bought two drinks total and closed out my tab. I tipped her well over 20% (because I am in the industry and get it-- I will never not leave 20%). After I close my tab, a guy walks up to the bar and offers to buy himself and I a shot, (Apparently he is a regular-- awesome!). He orders his shot and tells Stephanie to make what I want. She then proceeds to refuse my shot and only make his. I am completely in shock and ask her why. She said "because I won't let you take advantage of him" ??????!!!!! WHAT? I was almost laughing at this point. He offered to pay for a shot and you won't serve me but will serve him?? I had two drinks, paid my tab, tipped well over 20%, and then that is how I am treated as a customer?! I just moved into the area last year and thought I would give the neighborhood independent a try. I got a coupon in the mail for buy one get one with purchase of two beverages. We went on Friday night at 6:30 and was told by the first server that all appetizers were half price until 7:00. We went to order from server #2 Jessica and informed that was not correct only a couple of things were part of that special Oh well we ordered one and our dinner. Jessica would run by asking if things were OK never slowing down to hear our answer. We did manage to flag her down a couple of times. When it came time for the bill I gave her the coupon and she brought back the check with the half price appetizer with no mention of the coupon and disappeared. We had to ask another server that we need to see Jessica. When she came out the GM Kevin was with her and in full huff. Got right down in my face. He is a big person. He said I could not have both so I asked for the coupon rather than the half price appetizer. He jerked up the ticket crushed into a ball and stomped away. Jessica did change the check, but never came back to get my charge card. Good thing I had cash on me. I do not understand the attitudes of Winston's staff. Skip this place.
