We were just passing thru from town to town and saw this new Cidery. Beautiful building!!! We ordered 2 flights consisting of 4 tastes of the cider made there. They had music playing. Very clean. Cute merchandise and free popcorn. Many tables inside, couches and a loft area with seating too. You could also go outside on the deck and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Prices were very reasonable. And when we couldn't figure out an 8th cider for our flights they let us have a tiny sample. They do have crackers and meats and cheeses for purchase for snacking too. Outside there are 2 sand volleyball courts and a stage. They are closed for the season but have special dates they are open for pop up events, today 11/22/25 was their Bottle Extravaganza where all bottles were $1 off! We left with 3 bottles. Winterset Cidery is under new ownership and launched their grand re-opening Mothers Day weekend. Live music is a constant in the grass on weekends. The ciders are varied and delicious. I always go for the Lime Habanero. This time I tried the bourbon barrel and the citrus hops also. Both fantastic. Sweet is covered with great flavors like strawberry, the new guava and apple pie. The Cidery is a great way to spend a sunny summer afternoon. People are great and service is very friendly. The free popcorn is an added touch though both times I've been out there, there has also been a food truck. Summers here! Go enjoy. read more

That sometime finally happened when our neighbors invited us to join them for a late afternoon visit on the patio to enjoy a great Fall day. As our neighbors told us, the cider was very good. I really like to sample a variety, so took advantage of the opportunity to try multiple flavors with their Flights (see pictures). I let our server 'surprise' me with flavors, with the only direction being that I didn't want the super sweet options - and she did very well. My favorites would probably be the Lime Habanero and Gindy (which is a mix of Lime Habanero and Pineapple Orange). None of the flavors were overpowering though, all were subtle and refreshing - and I found these more dry options to be very good as compared to the sweet national brands. While we didn't technically have a meal here...I LOVE popcorn and the help-yourself popcorn (see picture) was delicious, so I gave a 4* rating. In addition, there is an option to order a meat and cheese charcuterie board from a cooperating business if that is of interest to you. The interior is beautifully decorated - rustic, country and very unique. The rolling, open countryside view that includes their apple orchards from the patio is beautiful! The only thing that held me back from a full 5* rating was the exterior of the building - a little maintenance with updated stain on the wood and paint on the doors & frames would make this place really shine again. Lastly on the service - it was great and I really appreciated the interaction with our server Stacy, who provided great suggestions and insight for my flights. While there was a mix-up with our check when we were closing out, the manager Gina was very good about it and let us leave while she figured it out, then got back in touch with me once she got it corrected. Always a stop to make when in Iowa. We love the atmosphere and the cider never disappoints.

Such a cute place. We went today and enjoyed some live music, a moderate crowd of patrons with lawn chairs, a nice air conditioned "lounge space, a patio, some games in the loft. They have a selection of different flavored ciders and an n/a root beer with some various bottled drinks. It's "family friendly " with some green space for running, a bags set and an antique truck for goggling. The place is really clean and well kept. The bathrooms are tidy and the staff does a nice job of keeping the tables clear and clean. There's merchant for sale, some to-go cider options and tons of free popcorn. Still a 5/5 for me, apparently it's gotten super popular (which is good). Seating was limited , due to certain parties taking extra tables. This time there was a much larger selection to choose from. For me the winners were the semi-dry , and the winterset. Both of which being a solid selection. The popcorn is still a solid choice for a snack! There is now an option of going to the orchard to pick your own apples, gotta love it! You owe it to yourself to explore this place for an exceptional experience!! read more

I had such an enjoyable evening out with my mom at Winterset Cidery. It was perfect to enjoy cider on the back deck while listening to the live performer. We had a very enjoyable afternoon in the loft of Winterset Cidery. While the crowd watched college football on the main floor we took our charcuterie picnic up to the loft and each selected a flight of 4 ciders to sample and compare. The ciders are distinctive, offering some unique flavor combinations like Lime Habanero and Perry which features Bosc and Bartlett pears. Perry was a favorite! Service was friendly and helpful. Can't trust the posted times on the Internet foe this business to be open. They were supposed to be open until 6:00 p.m. today. We pulled into the driveway at 4:45 p.m. as the owners were getting in the vehicle to leave. We were going to pick up some cider, but they weren't concerned with our business as they informed us that they had just closed early today and then proceeded to pull on out of the driveway ahead of us. If you're going to have posted hours, then you need to keep them. And if you're going to close up shop over an hour early, then that needs to be your posted closing time so people won't drive over 25 miles to pick up cider during posted business hours that are just arbitrarily kept. I'll just find my cider somewhere else from this point forward. There are plenty of other cideries in the area to choose from. read more

One of those hidden gem locations to get a good hard cider. The venue is only open a few months of the year (May to October) but during that time, they always have a good crowd. Relatively inexpensive for the ciders too. $5 for a glass and $9 for a flight of four ciders. They have a sampling of beer too for non-cider drinkers. Overall a great road trip outside of Des Moines for great cider. read more

Covered bridges, famous movie locations, and cider for reminiscing. This rustic watering hole has tables to sample far more ciders than I even knew existed. They even have popcorn and games to play while you sample a flight if various ciders. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. Besides it is just off the highway while cruising through town on your search for covered bridges. read more

The service, from the moment we walked in, was atrocious. Waitress and bartender were extremely terse and unfriendly. They accused us of underage drinking, my father is 48. They literally spied on us to see if we were drinking without presenting IDs and then came over and lectured us. Ridiculous. read more

My girlfriends and I stopped by this cidery on our annual road trip and I'm so glad we did. Such a cute little place with great service and a yummy selection of ciders. It was busy night but there was a DJ playing country hits and it was great. The owner welcomed us with open arms and thus began a wonderful evening. We probably won't be visiting Winterset again but I highly recommend to anyone passing through to check this place out....you won't be disappointed. read more

We took a group to the Cidery for a tour. They did a very good job. The tour guide (owner) was very informative, comments were that they were very understandable and informative. We did tasting with explanations on the various ciders. The cider was really good and everyone had their favorite. We were staying for the BBQ but some of our group had to leave because of lack of eating area. That was the only complaint we had. There were only 2 tables outside so our group could not remain a group for dinner. I wish we had known ahead how it worked there, we would have happily brought our own tables and chairs. We think that having a group was a new thing for them because they are a newer business. Other than that it was perfect. Good food, friendly service and very informative. LOVE!!! I hate beer and as a result, most ciders turn my stomach as well because of the beer aftertaste. Not so with this cider! Nothing but crisp, refreshing cider with a sweet aftertaste! I am sorry I did not get the cidermaker's name but he was very knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed talking with him. He made a bourbon barrel aged cider that was TO DIE FOR!! So sad it was only on tap, not in bottles, I would have cleaned him out! Please make more! read more
