I came here because my cousins and I were out investigating little towns all over the area and their son recommended the place. There is a great patio to eat outside, weather permitting. My giant schnitzel was very tasty and GIANT. Seriously, it was a bit too much. I couldn't eat a fry because I would have exploded. That sort of thing is frowned on in most places, but I think the German lady who owns the place would have been very unhappy with me. We later found out that our choice was right since indoor section was rather warm and uncomfortable. They offer traditional Bavarian/Franconian cuisine. It must be a mushroom season, since there were quite a few dishes with wild mushroom sauce. I opted for a schweinbraten (roasted pork). It came with two large potato dumplings (klossen) and a dish of sauerkraut. It was very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The gravy was not creamy or thick like what I used to in the states, but it was very flavorful. Since potato dumplings are somewhat bland, you really need some good tasting gravy to enjoy them. A young man was our server, he spoke excellent English, and he was very helpful. I understand that he's a grandson of the owner. His brother is the chef. Service was prompt and courteous. You have to remember that dishes are served as they become ready unlike in the states. We were a table of five, and we were served in two shifts. You have to start when you were served not to let your food get too cold. It's a little awkward, but it is what it is. There are German and English menus. I noticed English menu is simplified, and it doesn't include many dishes German menu includes like the daily menu. We ordered from the daily menu (I discovered later that it really doesn't change too often). Overall, it was an excellent dining coupled with good conversation with friends made a near perfect evening experience. We'll be back again, I'm sure.

Food was beyond delicious with a lot of locally sourced options. The menu seems to change seasonally. We had the cordon bleu schnitzel, sauerbraten schnitzel in a gingerbread sauce , and the goulash. The goulash was particularly flavorful with bacon dumplings. Highly recommend for dinner and a few beers. We also stayed at the inn and can highly recommend that as well. The main menu is somewhat limited and could use a few more options. The seasonal menu improves the situation a bit but I didn't see many options that stood out. In the end, I ordered the mixed meat dinner along with alcohol free wheat beer. The beer was a 3/5 as it didn't have a fully developed flavor. The dinner on the other hand scored a perfect 5/5. The warm apple dessert was also very good. It was a 4/5 for me, but would be a 5/5 for those who have a preference for fried dough. In all the cases (drink, meal, and dessert), the presentation was well above average, so they get extra points there. When I walked in, I was seated immediately and the service was quite good despite there being language barrier (my German is not so good).
