They make it possible for up and coming artists to be known on the scene by playing their tracks on the air and putting them on a showcase. The Local Lightning Spotlight is a feature that showcases two local artists each week by playing their music between 2:40pm and 8:40pm for the entire week of the Spotlight. This is a great amount of exposure for any up and coming act. This kind of programing can only happen at an independently owned station. When you listen in to this program you can actually get an idea of what is going on in the clubs around town, and what bands are hot to go see. Another great show that makes Lightning 100 a five star radio station is the Sunday Night Live Broadcast of a Nashville band. The show broadcasts live from one of the many great venues in town. Recently the shows have been held at 3rd and Lindsley. This way you can see if the band sounds as good live as they do on their record. Locals call it "ZYP," as we all grew up listening to WZYP. The Dunnavant Family (Huntsville had a Dunnavant's Mall and I believe Dunnavant's Apartments back when) founded this station as WJOF and these are the studios that remain in Athens, Alabama ,while its transmitters are in Madison, Alabama. In the 1980s, WZYP was noth Alabama's top rated station. The Dunnavant Family sold the station to Cumulus Broadcast in 2003, although the Dunnavants rerain co-ownership with other affiliated radio stations. WZYP's format remains Top 40. Although I grew up enthusiastically listening to WZYP, now I prefer Sirius XM stations to Top 40.

I grew up on "We Up!" I always (morbidly) enjoyed the "Obituary Column" during which they read the…read moreweek's obituaries with solemn Gospel music in the background. There was just something oddly comforting about the "Obituary Column." Before my day, Leroy and Viola Garrett became the first African-American owners of this radio station in 1958. I was raised around the corner from its location on Jordan Lane. Hundley Batts, Sr., a prominent local businessman and philanthropist, and his wife, bought the station after Leroy Garrett died in 1987. For his successes with WEUP, and other ventures including a long-standing local insurance agency, he was awarded the 2010 Distinguished Service Award by the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and was inducted in to the Alabama Broadcaster's Hall of Fame. Thanks, WEUP for consistently providing local church services, beautiful gospel music including contemporary urban gospel and soul music, and news to the Tennessee Valley!

Well maybe I could - sorry - squirrel... My radio has not been on another station since. The variety is such that it is not necessary. Being an NPR station - other than news on the hour the only break in the morning drive time music is a word from a very few of there corporate sponsors. Granted the type music played is not for everyone, but I guarantee that the variety is way better. It was a LONG time before I heard the same song twice. I downloaded a song identifier app just because of this station so I could revisit at a later time some of the music I heard. Give it a try...

I landed on WRVW for a while and enjoyed the tunes as I drove through Nashville's awesome traffic. It's amazing how many highways join up and split as they pass through this big city! Dua Lipa, Eminem, Linkin Park, Miley Cyrus. It's not rock and it's not adult. It's Top 40ish pop and they seem to play a LOT of Taylor Swift. 107.5 is part of the iHeart radio conglomerate and they're happy to advertise for themselves and the big iHeart music festival that you can catch on other stations or win tickets. *eye roll* [Review 20072 overall - 428 in Tennessee - 1048 of 2023.]

Before I could find out if "A Prairie Home Companion" is part of this lineup, I quickly turned the dial. After half a dozen country music stations, I came across something that reminded me of home: a Top 40 station. Granted, the playlist will repeat itself after a couple of hours. And I was saddened that there wasn't a morning show. The music is solid, but not risky enough to try new releases unless other stations in other markets do so beforehand. But at least I won't be chewing my arm off if I had to endure "A Prairie Home Companion".

At 330 PM on the day of.the event, tickets were still being advertised as available. When our party of 7 arrived there was a very long line. As we are walking to the back.of the line we have event staff informing us the venue is at capacity and only if someone walks out another may walk in to the event. There were over 100 to 150 people in line, most claiming they had tickets.
