I have been corrected. I didn't realize that the "I Hate Steven Singer" ad campaign wasn't WMMR directly, but one of their advertisers. When I first started listening to WMMR, the number of Steven Singer jewelry references was just so much, I some how thought they were related... some how... Question: has anyone ever bought or received those gold plated roses for Valentine's Day that Steven Singer sells? This review is long overdue. I am an OG black listena of the Preston & Steve morning show back when they were unceremoniously taken off the air at Y100! Despite the fact that they are both transplants from their respective hometowns (Preston: St. Louis & Steve: New York), these two are a gem in this city! I'm rarely one for listening to radio. but I can't help but have a soft spot for WMMR. Jaxon does a good job of helping out the local rock scene. and Preston and Steve can be pretty hilarious from time to time. The main reason I like WMMR is Markus though. When I worked on the magazine with him I had plenty of chances to talk music with him. So I know that he's as much of a dedicated music geek as I am. He has one of the best radio voices I ever heard. And I have to give it up to him for hooking me up with a song whenever I randomly text out a request to him! read more

Before I moved to the area I hated morning radio because it was all obnoxious talking. Preston and Steve changed that. I love their show, the bizarre files, tatTuesday, the interviews with celebrities. The thing that really sets them apart is their great sense of humor. Other morning shows in the area rely on bathroom humor and sexual jokes. Sometimes that's ok, but John DeBella on 102.9 almost exclusively relies on sexual based jokes. There comes a time that those jokes get old. Preston and Steve do a wonderful job at keeping it fresh and it's really fun to listen to on my way to work. I recently won a gift certificate for Zachary's BBQ and I went to pick it up. The front desk person was extremely friendly and personable. I'm excited because I love BBQ and I work close to the restaurant and have heard good things about them, but have never been! This is my second ever time winning something on the radio, the other was sometime before 2011 and it was for Wendy's. I ended up getting the bacon 5 patty burger and it made me sick :-( read more

I have been listening to Preston and Steve for over 15 years and love them dearly....almost to an obsession. I have bled for them (I Bleed for Preston and Steve) and fed for them (Camp out for Hunger). I have been to their single's mixers and I have gone to their cardboard classic. I try to keep to the background though, attempting to not let on to how obsessed I actually am. I had to especially use this skill when I was super excited to find out that my friend Ivana set up an in studio visit with them for my birthday. Just this last Tuesday, I popped in to witness the hilarious genius that is P&S. What I love (and I think others would agree) about everyone on the show is their ability to be the average guy. I never thought Stern was particularly funny even though we share the same Alma mater. Maybe its because he hides behind those glasses or because he only seems interested in sex...I don't know. P&S do delve into the shock radio occasionally (hottie cam or gash cab anyone), but it is more their hilarious discussions of everyday topics that make me fall into a fit of laughter. Mostly it is Steve's quick wit that wins me over most days. As we were escorted to the back of the station (which was just renovated), there was a bevy of interns running about. All were super nice and very hospitable. Being that it was Tattoo-esday, there were two gentleman in the other room getting inked (Perhaps more in love with them than myself, both gents got Preston and Steve tattoos). We sat and waited for a break so we could go into the studio. Immediately upon entering, Steve was super nice and friendly (remembering Ivana and myself from previous meetings). Preston came over and introduced himself as well and even gave me a birthday greeting on air (swoon). Lauren Harris, the P&S resident hot girl was in studio and was also super personal. Actually, like I said, all the members of the P&S show (Casey, Nick, Kathy, and Marissa) are super personable and all have their roles for which I love them. I know it can sometimes be scary to peer behind the velvet curtain and realize your heroes are not worth your adoration, but if anything, this experience taught me that P&S deserve so much more. You can tell that they appreciate the fans love and love the job they do. read more

Have to go one star here, and that's due to the fact that the genius 6 figure executives at the station seem to think that there only 6 bands from the 60's through the 90's. Theres more to the music world than Pearl Jam, AC DC, Guns and Roses and Metallica. Pierre talks TOO much, which is maybe why theres only time for Cult of personality and Evenflow. The morning show. Could someone PLEASE tell me why Kathy Romano has a friggin job????? Her traffic reports are for SHIT! Its one long sentence deprived of tone and separation. I have NO CLUE what shes even talking about and she brings NOTHING to the table. Preston - you're a douche. I love how you throw tantrums and make fun of callers, the SAME people that give you your posh 300 grand plus salary. You need to chill out and thank god you have Steve there because without him this show wouldnt have lasted more than a month. Bonaduce wasnt the greatest talk show, but at least he cared about the city, lived there and was always out and about vs running away back to the burbs. God I miss 94. read more

What is wrong with this station? It's like reliving someones 'glory days' from the 90's. Stop. Just Stop. If you insist on playing music from the 90's, take a look around you, there are bands besides Pearl Jam. It's just the same crap over and over and over. WMMR is pretty decent as major Rock-formatted stations go, but overall, its average. The problem with WMMR is the problem with any high-powered station anywhere in the country (but even moreso in a major market)...the playlist stinks. Yes, WMMR has exceptions to that rule, but they are just that...exceptions. Outside of the "Vault" stuff, they play a very safe, very boring playlist. Again, you can find exceptions sometimes, but I'm looking at it from a day-to-day level (which is why it gets 3 stars instead of 1). Pierre can be a bit verbose, sure, but he is a lifer, and moreover, a Philly lifer. Respect. And he is one of the few that might bust out something rare during his show, though he has a strange fixation on The Hooters (who were never popular for a reason). I never listen to this station for the more "talk" oriented shows so I can't comment on them. Overall, WMMR is slap-fighting WMGK in the kiddie pool over which is the best rock station in Philly. Don't try too hard. read more

I live in Florida, and I still listen to WMMR. I work at desk from 8-5, and I'm either streaming live or podcasting the morning show, Preston and Steve. I have my radio preset to 93.3 (preset 6!) so that whenever I end up in the area I'll have it right away. The only thing that ever made me want to get an iPhone was the MMR apps, but I'll be going to Droid as soon as I can so I can hear MMR wherever I go. I live in a small media market, so I don't always get to hear the music I like, so having MMR with me will help immensely. Preston and Steve, not only are they amusing, but they also do things for the community as well. Even though I'm not there, I always donate blood at the time of the I Bleed for Preston and Steve blood drive, and I donated my hair during Kathy's Locks of Love promotion. I'll even drink for their public service drunk day! Preston and Steve and MMR are there for all ages, I've even converted my mother who was a religious KYW Listener, she listens every morning! read more

Since moving to the greater Philly area seven years ago WMMR has been number one on my radio dial. Well not exactly "dial", but number one button sounds kinda dumb. I first started listening when Casey was an intern and P and S were putting him through his paces during the "month of stunts". Then came a black period in which I had to move out of the area for a year to complete an internship. Since this was in the olden days before iPods and such I could only catch about 5 minutes of static filled signal of P and S in during my drive to work in the morning. I still found this five minutes of the P and S show funny, even through the static. Something people, who are critical of WMMR, should realize is how lucky we are to have a dedicated rock station in our market. Drive out of the WMMR listening range and I wish you luck finding rock station with the history and integrity of WMMR. Particularly if you head into rural PA where you will be forced to listen to pop rock stations, classic rock, or purchase radio. I'll be kind with my critique of DJs at other stations who cause me to scratch my head wondering how they actually got a job as a DJ. We are seriously spoiled by have such a great rock station in our area. My only two criticisms One is they tend to play a relatively small rotation of songs. Though this is countered by "Jackson's iPod" and "everything A-Z" weeks. Other critique. There are times were I get a tad annoyed by P and S because they will kill a clip or sound bite to death. That is it though. As far as the other DJ, Pierre Robert is awesome. Who else loves Philly as much as he does or knows the history of rock and roll in philly more? WMMR is a pretty chill radio station; sometimes I'll catch Preston and Steve in the morning and get my fill of music news (I appreciate that!) Coming from LA, it was cool to find a station that has some classic rock similar to 95.5 KLOS, and the awesome Mark & Brian morning show duo. Good station! read more

Always enjoy listening to WMMR. The morning show is especially funny and Preston & Steve always have something off the wall yet relevant to say. We participated in the food drive for Philabundance last year and have started our food collection already this year. MMR Rocks! The station has a solid weekly line-up, beginning with a hilarious morning show - Preston & Steve. I used to listen to another station for years until I stumbled upon P&S. After listening a few days, and laughing my you know what off, I was hooked. The show involves a lot of personalities besides P&S, but they all contribute to the show's hilarity. Then, they're followed by the Philly radio legend, Pierre Robert. Good day, citizen! He really knows his music and makes it fun to listen to. He doesn't just do your typical cookie-cutter radio show. He's entertaining, personable, and super down to earth. He really relates to the audience. Overall, I really like the music selection. They dabble in the 90s and then hit up some of the better modern rock. Yes, I used the word, "dabble." It's a great mix. Whenever I'm in the car, my radio is set on WMMR. Whenever I'm doing work at home, my radio is set on WMMR. Give it a listen!! read more

MMR you have a lot going for you. Where to begin? I'll start with Preston and Steve. I am always cracking up. No other morning show even compares. Next is Pierre Robert who has fine taste, is knowledgeable, and all around great to listen to. I am proud to be his "citizen." Just in general, I hear some great stuff on MMR. I can count on hearing some great rock from the 60s, as well as grunge from the 90s. They even play a lot from the BOSS, which I love. Sure, there is the occasional newer BS that I don't much care for, but they don't delve too much into the 80s glam, which YSP used to love. Overall, I am happy with MMR and will continue to be a fan. read more

Made a yelp account just to write a review on this shit radio station. I swear they have the same ten songs on a loop. It's like in order to be a disc jockey at this radio station you have to be musically naive. The only positive thing about this station is that it's helped me to create this fun game I like to play called "guess what song they'll play next". 10 times out of 10 I'm right. I gave one star because there's no option to give zero. If you're a real music lover, don't even waste your time switching this station on. read more

This is a Response to Nicole B who posted a review on 2/6/2015. I have to disagree with you completely. Clearly you do not listen to the station enough, or you would realize this is not true. They play a wonderful mix of new and old rock. I can only speak as a listener who listens Monday-Friday. From the 5:30-10:30 slot with Preston & Steve, you'll get current music and music from the 90's some examples Volbeat, Arctic Monkeys, Blink-182, Weezer, Rival Sons, Nirvana..and so on. Then with Pierre Robert from 11-2 you'll get older music because he is known as the "Hippie" of the station. So I have heard everything from the doors, to David Bowie and everything in between. Then from 3-7pm Jaxon is on playing current music and songs from local bands with the "Artist of the Month". Followed by Matt Cord from 7-Midnight playing current music and taking requests. Finally you have the self proclaimed vampire Jacky Bam-Bam who runs the grave yard shift from Midnight-5am again taking requests and playing all music from the current era including Disturbed, Slipknot, AC/DC, and others. So whenever anyone says "All the do is play pear jam" or "They play the same songs over and over" you can know for sure that person is not a true fan of the station because that is not true at all. I remember back in the 80's and early 90's when you could listen to this station and not get bored. Back when you could hear a nice mix of current and classic songs all woven together. It wasn't unusual to hear an R.E.M song played after a Genesis song. You could even be kept up to date with quality new bands like Love and Rockets or Michael Penn. Now all you hear is the same old played out hard rock and metal from the same bands and new music that barely holds up during it's time in the charts. Nowadays bands like Fleetwood Mac and Rod Stewart are considered oldies or classic rock and are relegated to their respective formats. I thought I would be a life long listener long ago but sadly have left and am forced to tune to 102.9 where I can't hear exciting new music but at least I'm not exposed to Disturbed and bands of that ilk who couldn't find a melody with a backhoe and a team of engineers. Once upon a time Led Zeppelin and Bruce Springsteen lived in harmony on the station that used to be the Home of Rock and Roll 93.3 WMMR!...PHILADELPHIA. read more
