ordered food online-was very excited to try a new place in town. unless you're on top of your delivery/delivery notifications, I highly do NOT recommend. had to call the store 3x tonight after getting notification that food was sent out over an hour ago. food was delivered an hour and 45 minutes later. the woman on the phone extremely pushy when we wanted to cancel order. will not be ordering from here again and will never recommend. order from Le's chinese in Ames if you want a problem free delivery. read more

Really wanted to like this place. I'm thinking we just caught them on an off day. Hoping to visit again soon! We came in on a weekend and tried to order a special from the sign/board on the wall, only to find out that it wasn't up to date and we could t order that option. We came in February, and the building was freezing cold. The fan was running on high and since we were next to the entrance it was very difficult to focus on the food. I ended up getting pad Thai just to get some kind of baseline. I was shocked when they brought out all the normal ingredients of pad Thai, except drenched in pink sweet and sour sauce.. like-- the pink sauce on crab rangoons. It was so syrupy and not at all a good fit for the meat in the dish. Im thinking maybe whoever prepared it just grabbed the wrong sauce bottle but needless to say I couldn't eat it. My husband tried it also and agreed that it was the wrong sauce. I did confirm with the server that it was pad Thai when he came back. The service was pretty good, I could tell that our server was doing his best. He was very friendly. We were the only guests there that day, so maybe it was just an off day. TLDR: wish this place the best but pad Thai drenched in sweet & sour sauce is a no-go for me. read more

Overall: Bland food that I would be embarrassed to have made for my friends (and I'm a crap cook). Reviews saying "authentic" are full of it, as is anything complimenting the ambiance/atmosphere. 1 star ambiance. 1 star seasoning. Crispy duck was plain duck on white rice. Not deboned. No sauce. No flavor- very bland. Completely inedible unless you drown it in soy sauce. You have to spend more time trying to not choke on the bones than actually eating it (see photo- this is all bones!!). Pad Thai was sugary sweet, not savory. Looked pale as raw spaghetti. Also bland. Vegetables with rice was reportedly bland as well. See a trend? The food is quite good. I mostly get take out here and have never had a problem. Until, I ordered online and went to pick up my order and when I was paying I clicked the "no tip" option. No one served me other than making the food and handing it to me, I will tip if I'm getting served which I was not. The employee that checked me out slammed his hand on the table and gave me a sarcastic "thanks". Tipping culture is outrageous and this employee proves it. Interesting shoebox style Chinese restaurant. Just looks like another run off the mill money laundering front for the yakuza or some shit. Better than average Chinese food (which is below average). Great new authentic Chinese restaurant in Ames. After one of my favorite Chinese places closed (Taste Place), I was worried this new place would be disappointing in comparison. I was pleasantly surprised that it was just as delicious! It's also in a great location right on Welch. We ordered the chef special sour soup stewed beef (the name isn't very appealing, but don't let that fool you). It has lots of pieces of thin fatty beef, noodles, and cabbage in a flavorful chili broth. We also ordered the fragrant fish dish which was fried with chilis. Lastly, we ordered their yushiang eggplant which was covered in a sticky sweet and savory sauce. If you're looking for something a little less adventurous, they also have a nice sized American-Chinese menu. I didn't order anything myself but saw a table that ordered off that menu and it looked good. I'm already anxious to go back! Treat yourself to a meal here then go across the street to grab a bubble tea for dessert. read more

I got the food from here through DoorDash. It arrived hot and fresh. The potstickers were very good. The sesame chicken was nothing more than sweet and sour soup with chicken nuggets and a few sesame seeds sprinkled on top. I have been a long time fan of Wok N Roll and really enjoyed the meals I have recieved here. However my most recent experience was an absolute travesty. I had ordered the Geleshan Chicken which the chicken was full of bones. I only had 3 edible pieces due to this fact. The other order of sweet and sour chicken didn't turn out as well. It had cold chicken and no sauce, sauce is the entire point of the meal. It is absolutely devasting to see such a great business stoop to such low levels. read more

We called in this restaurant for take-out. The staff was agreeable as we left our order and he said food would be ready in 15 minutes! By the time we got there, it was ready. As far as the interior, we didn't spend much time there since they weren't doing dine-in (COVID-19). We ordered a sweet/sour potato dish, fried tofu with garlic sauce, and beef lo Mein. Having been to China a couple years ago, I really prefer authentic Chinese food vs. Americanized Chinese food and I thought these dishes were LEGIT. The lo Mein was one of the best noodle dishes I've had in Ames, highly recommend. I also really liked the tofu (which is saying something since I'm still trying to acquire a taste for tofu). Overall, I have nothing to say that reflects a negative experience. The potatoes weren't my favorite but that's more because I'm not a big fan of the sweet/sour flavor. Hard to find any good Chinese food in this entire city but Wok N Roll is the closest to authentic I have found yet. However food consistency could use a little work - the second time I had the fragrant chicken the oil tasted really off and I ended up having to throw almost all of it out. The first time I thought it was pretty good! I like to get their baby bok choy and egg and tomato dish as well as their sweet and sour fish. I liked their stir fried beef with cumin but it's pretty spicy so not for the faint of heart. I would probably eat here again but in moderation and also will avoid their fragrant chicken...a shame because I really liked it the first time around! read more

I tried to find an email address to send this picture directly to them as well as find an option on Facebook so I wouldn't have to leave a bad review, however there was no way to message them. We ordered chicken fried rice, garlic chicken, Mongolian beef, crab Rangoon's and egg roles. I was through most of my food on my plate when I found this hair--not quite sure what it was in to start with so we have to throw away all of the food that we'd ordered. I don't recommend working here. I was injured in their restaurant while I was a waitress there. The owners showed zero empathy, they did not even file it with workers compensation. I asked them for help to lay hospital bill and they refused. I also asked for food a couple times cause I had no money due to being injured at their restaurant and not being able to work. They didn't even respond to my textS. I was threatened and yelled at by owners son multiple times. They don't care about anyone but themselves. After a few times the food quality is unstable. The dishes are very greasy which ruins the taste and the feel of it.

I decided to order delivery from here through a third party app. I was super excited because they had free delivery and the app said the wait time was only 25 minutes. I ordered orange chicken, that's it, and guess how long it took to get to me. Two and a half hours. I wish I were joking. I had to chat with the third party twice and I ended up calling the restaurant too. Both refused to pay me back and said the delivery left two hours ago... it finally came to me, cold and with the bag opened. I won't ever eat here again. What a shame. read more

We were pleasantly surprised that in the middle of honestly nowhere there is a hidden gem that serves the freshest, authentically prepared Thai, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. We just got done eating at Wok N Roll and are smitten. The portions are pretty big - unexpectedly so. So be aware of that. But for us, that will mean amazing leftovers! The kids had lo mein which got good reviews. I had sauteed vermicelli with spicy minced pork. Cannot recommend enough. The mapo tofu got rave reviews from my better half. I found this place so-so. It definitely scores high on ambiance, but alas ambiance was everything for a restaurant. It appears that a lot of thought has been put into the decor and you do get the feel of eating in an authentic Chinese restaurant. The service is friendly and fast. Its location, being close to the campus, is very convenient for students. The food though is not as great as you may expect from the ambiance. I have tried their Mapo Tofu (without pork) and Fried Dumplings so far. These were of average spice level and not particularly special. While that may have been fine if the food was not so salty. I understand that the entrees are supposed to be eaten with steamed rice and thus will be little saltier than usual to balance the flavor. But the Mapo Tofu I got was a touch saltier than I would like. To summarize, the ambiance is good and certainly feels authentic. Food is okay, but you may need a higher tolerance for salt. read more
