It was such a significant difference, that I had to write a review and let others know. I think the new chef is named Blake Bond. He must be new at this, because our food was cold and bland. The meat was so hard in parts that it actually took a crown off that I had permanently placed before our trip. This place is expensive, and there are just too many other amazing places to go. I would have given the chef another chance, but he came out after dinner, and seemed so offended that someone would dare say they weren't satisfied. They really need a new chef!! And quick!!

They have little cabins you can stay at but we didn't get to see inside since we were only there to rude horses for the first time. Prices weren't bad, I think it was $40 each for one hour? I forget. We chose them because they were the only company that would let our 6 year old ride on his own horse. David was our tour guide and he did a great job teaching us all what to do. Made us all look like pros. Some of the route was a little scary, near & overlooking the edge of mountain. But the horses did great guiding us safely through it. We would come back here again if we ever do the pagosa hot springs again.

My nephew Stephen and I just had a day on the water with Ben…read more Ben did more work in our day than I've ever seen a guide put in, from rowing to donating flies to the guy in the back of the boat, to helping my nephew get on fish as while he's a good wade angler he'd never fished from a boat. And both of them had to put up with my East Coast sarcasm and dad jokes, and my catching most of Stephen's fish. Did I mention how much work Ben put in to keep Stephen on fish? And also at least twice to let me rescue favorite flies from some sneaky bushes that jumped up out of nowhere, it wasn't now my fault, was it Ben? And we both even caught good fish, even if Stephen can hang onto his long enough to get a good photo and I can't. Thanks again, Ben! And I was going to ask you about that one fly the kept me in fish -- it turns out that I "accidentally" kept it (not going to post a picture of it, they'll have to go out with you!)

What a great store. What a great owner…read more What great staff. A group of us were camping in Colorado, and to my relief and delight, Fox Creek Co. was a mere 2 miles from our camps. Food. Gear. Snacks. Fishing licenses. Cool swag. What's not to love? We mainly needed ice. Like every day. Driving 45 minutes to Alamosa was NOT going to happen, PLUS we were really liking the Fox Creek Store. A few stand outs (for me) were the Fiah Stickers. Minnesota girl here so am always delighted to see a cool fish. ;) ICE. Sodas. Camping and fishing supplies. Facial tissues (for the New Area Allergies.) Grab an Amish Pie (or two. or 3. Can't remember if I ate 4 or 6?) A light and absolutely delicious pastry filled with fruit. I had Strawberry - rhubarb. I also had to get a big homemade apple cinnamon tear away bread. Yes... it had a nice drizzle of frosting. It was a great addition to breakfast and made a great snack. I think what really stood out for me though was The People. Steven, the owner, was often on-site and insisted on carrying the ice to the car. Nice guy. I mean, REALLY NICE GUY. And his family work the cash register and counter. I could go on and on about things I loved about the store but the bottom line is simple: nice people. Convenient. FAIR competition pricing. Thoughtful inventory. Propane. A dump station. And licenses. I will actually miss theu daily trip to Fox Creek now that I'm back in Arizona. Oh!!! You not only will be supporting a local small business, but local, independent artisans. One guy makes the flies. A woman makes beautiful jewelry. If you wander around, you'll see handmade boot cleaners, quality knives, and so much more. Not just 5 stars. 5 shooting stars for welcoming visitors, while providing friendly, topnotch customer service.

The horses were friendly and adorable and very professional.;) Our guide, Sean, was thorough and knowledgeable about the area and landforms which my husband appreciated as a man who studies maps for fun. I recently went fishing at DeWeese Reservoir, and man is it beautiful. It's in a secluded spot with…read morebeautiful mountains all around. It's quite a drive, but definitely worth it. I don't think the reservoir is stocked with fish, or at least it doesn't seem like it. Regardless, we managed to catch 3 trout and see a tiger muskie (possibly) skimming along looking for its next meal. We were able to pull right up next to the water, and there were flat spots for our chairs. Someone had made a fire pit in the area, too. The only thing that might deter from the peacefulness of the setting is that there is a firing range close to the mountains, so all their shots echoed off. It wasn't too bad, except for the kids constantly asking what that noise was. In all, I wouldn't mind coming back.
