I initially began as a patient with Dr. Truong but later switched to Dr. Makhani in Encinitas, encouraged by friends who praised her HRT care. Unfortunately, my experiences with both providers have been consistently disappointing. With Dr. Truong, I often felt rushed and that she was distant. During my annual exam, she seemed more focused on the clock than on me, and I left feeling unheard. After switching to Dr. Makhani, I requested an order for a pelvic exam and ultrasound to monitor ongoing ovarian cysts, as well as to investigate a recent increase in migraines around my periods. Despite this legitimate concern, the office refused to order the exam. I had to go through my primary doctor, who had no issue sending the order immediately. Communication and support in Dr. Makhani's office have been poor. When I asked the front desk, including Nicole, for guidance on a location for my annual exam, no recommendations were offered. I ended up going to Perlman Clinic, where a female physician conducted a thorough, supportive exam that felt far more attentive and resourceful than my experience with Dr. Makhani's office. Even after preparing for a focused hormone consultation--including completing my annual exam, blood work, and Pap smear in advance--Dr. Makhani did not have my results. Despite texts from Nicole confirming they had received everything, Dr. Makhani tried to place blame on me rather than acknowledging the oversight. She promised to follow up regarding my blood work but never did. The situation worsened with new lab orders. The day before a critical blood draw, I called the office urgently because Quest Lab had no instructions from them--no fasting details, no clarification about which tests were to be run, including ferritin/iron tests I specifically requested. Despite multiple attempts to reach both the staff and the doctor, I received vague responses, resulting in wasted time and missed opportunities to complete testing during the first day of my cycle. A friend of mine reported a nearly identical experience, suggesting this is not an isolated issue. After five years of appointments with this office, I feel both Dr. Truong and Dr. Makhani treated me more like a number than a patient. Communication is inconsistent, follow-through is lacking, and even important health concerns--like monitoring ovarian cysts--were dismissed. Even my daughter did not feel comfortable there. At this point, I am starting over to find a gynecologist and HRT specialist who listens, communicates clearly, and follows through. read more

I saw Dr. Truong - she was patient, kind, and genuinely caring, and her entire team was just as warm and welcoming. They don't care about patient time, building is confusing, only one person in the front and a horrible greeter couldn't even get past the front. plus If I did, I wouldn't want to go here and get see by whoever is in that back that didn't want to take the time to see me. Ok- so my story is embarrassing- I'm OLD- and I've NEVER been to a Doctor for my Lady parts. (horrible experience as a teenager in a room alone with a male Doctor) I really needed to go and my sister referred me to DR Samina Makani. I have to say that DR Makani listened to my horror story and to my fears. She was VERY patient with me and explained everything. I survived. We discussed a minor surgery and I also needed to get blood tests. When my tests came back she wanted to meet with me which scared me but, it was so she could go over everything to make sure I understood. (which I really appreciated) She had a concern with one test and had me take it again in her office. I barely got in my car when one of the gals called to tell me I need to see a specialist. (I wanted to get through my surgery 1st and then I'd schedule that one) Surgery went well and my follow up appointment where DR Makani wanted to make sure i was healing properly went well. It's hard for me to articulate just how disappointed I am with my quality of care from this office considering I had been a patient for over seven years. Front desk staff always has been rude, uninformed, and borderline nonexistent when trying to contact them via phone. Most importantly, when I got an opportunity to speak to the doctor about a concern, I did not feel listened to, heard, or educated in ANY capacity. It felt like pulling teeth to get an answer or explanation about what was going on in my own body. I left the office and always had to google my symptoms/alternative forms of pain relief because I was given no guidance. This experience completely diminished my faith in this practice to be able to care for my reproductive health - to the point that I have 0 confidence they have the competency to catch any issues that actually require a serious treatment plan. Extremely disappointed doesn't even begin to describe my experience. If you have the option to go LITERALLY ANYWHERE else, I strongly encourage you to do so. Update: Don't expect them to release your medical records in under 30 days when you request them to either. read more

I had scheduled a new patient appointment. I was called the day before the appointment and asked to come 20 min early to fill out paperwork. This is already so archaic. Why is the paperwork not available on line? They have no problems wasting patient time. I arrived twenty minutes early for the paperwork and another patient arrived at the same time and had been told that her appointment was two hours earlier than it had been scheduled. They let her as well as two other late comers in front of me. One hour later (45 min after the scheduled appointment time), I left the office. The office staff was rude, instructed patients to wear masks but didn't wear them inside the reception area, and spoke loudly about test results over the phone. What a great group of doctors. Dr. Fainman was my obstetrician, just had my little one two weeks ago. She came recommended from another ob/gyn in the area that wasn't taking patients. We were planning to move to Encinitas from the OC but decided against it. But we decided to stay with Dr. Fainman in spite of the distance. We made a really good decision! Dr. Fainman gave us all of the information and options that were available (so many). She made recommendations based on our individual circumstances and what would be reasonable for us. She asked us to call her if I went into labor and that she tried to deliver all of her patients babies. And when my labor and delivery took a wrong turn (asthma, chest infection, c section) she made me feel completely comfortable with the change in plans. My daughter was born healthy & well cared for by a wonderful team. My scar looks amazing (more like a wrinkle than an incision). Stuff to know: Your doc may not deliver your little one, but one of their docs is on call all the time. They have really good hospitalists at scripps Encinitas. They have an odd payment structure where you pay a portion of your labor & delivery fee at each appt. In any case, I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Fainman. read more

Besides being extremely kind, warm, caring and down-to-earth, she is highly skilled in her field and always makes me feel welcome and heard. As a women, being heard and taken serious when seeing any doctor for an exam, means a lot to me. Dr. Makani never rushes through my appointment, is keen to answer my questions, has never talked down to me and is super helpful in giving sound advice that leaves me feeling cared for - as anyone should feel during a doctor appointment visit. I am a 17 year old girl, and this was my first appointment ever, no idea what to expect. All the nurses and ladies at the front were the rudest ladies I have ever had a experience with. They were not understanding at all and had no patience at all, yelling at patients, an Asian American lady, especially during this time with so much racial hate occurring. Dr. Troung was the nicest doctor though, very sweet and understanding, but every other nurse and front desk lady was rude, a dirty blonde and a black haired lady. Really sad to me the treatment of how women treat other women especially at a Women's health office. I saw Dr. Makani for a simple IUD removal. First, I was asked to come early to fill out paperwork, which I did, but instead of having me fill out paperwork they put me in the room where I waited for about 45 minutes. While I was waiting I was staring at a reel of advertisements for botox, lash extensions, and the like. I was completely offended that in a women's clinic they had such superficial ads playing over and over again. Are you kidding me? Additionally, my room was located near the assistant desks and my husband and I heard them laugh and making fun of the patients. To make matters worse, when Dr. Makani finally came in I found her to be rushed and a tad rude. She didn't even alert me before she put the speculum in!! When she did I - of couse - jumped a little and she was like, "The speculum is inserted". No, really? Afterward, I was sent out to fill out electronic paperwork, paperwork that felt more like a survey then intake information. Total time 2.5 hours. Ridiculous. In sum, I don't need a doctor (or a doctors office) with a particularly warm bedside manor, especially when it comes to an IUD removal, but my experience was awful! Simply awful. The only reason they received one star is because yelp won't allow no stars. read more

I knew kids would eventually be in my future so I wanted to pick a GYN that was also an OB and delivered in a hospital close by (for when it's time!) I went last week for my second annual visit and really love her. She's so open and honest, I feel so comfortable talking to her and don't feel rushed at all. She helped me with all of my questions and even sent me home with a shopping bag full of prenatal vitamin samples! Dr. Makani saw me through my entire pregnancy and Dr Troung delivered my son. Both were extremely professional and friendly. Dr. Makani always took time to sit with me and never pushed vaccines or other medication. They also have a portable ultrasound machine so I was able to see my baby a few more times than normal. Yes, they advertise for Botox, Latisse and lip "plumpers", but it's on a tv screen you can watch while waiting and the doctors and nurses never mentioned them to me. I will say the office and rooms are a bit small, but I still recommend this group of doctors : ) read more

I ended up having a terrible experience at this practice. I did have a rare reaction to a normal IUD procedure that resulted in hospitalization/blood transfusion/surgery/and unexpected medical bills but I did not find office staff friendly or kind. I was not physically examined prior to IUD insertion or post surgery!!! That really feels below the standard of care, what's the point of having an appointment without examination, to put easy money in your pocket? Dr. Truong seems knowledgeable, but I did not feel taken care of or healed at this practice. I also don't have an extra 45 minutes to wait for every appointment, especially when you have no intention of even preforming an exam. I feel abandoned by this practice, after causing a medical trauma to me, the team did nothing to help me feel healed, and when I went back for aftercare failed to address any of the needs that brought me to the practice in the first place, like annual care. Absolutely the most devastating medical experience of my entire life! Thank you Women's Integrative Health for severely traumatizing me and providing the worst medical care of my life! read more

My wife and I saw Dr. Truong for the first four months of her pregnancy. We gave her a chance but in the end decided to go with another doctor. She was nice but she did not seem knowledgeable in the few areas we knew enough about to know the difference. She was not empathetic and very hard to develop any kind of warm relationship with for those of you that find this important. When my wife said she was non stop thirsty and was concerned about it Dr. Truong did not even mention Gestational diabetes which is somewhat common during pregnancy and the first thing that pops up if you take a half second to google it.. When my wife brought this up she said your right we should do a test. That was very alarming to us. When we had questions Dr. Truong had a hard time communicating an effective answer and instead of making us feel secure she had the opposite effect. When we left the office we always more worried then when we first came in. We are not people who stress about small things either but in the end we decided to go another way. read more

I feel really fortunate to have found Dr. Truong. She has an amazing bedside manner and did so every time I saw her during my pregnancy with my daughter 3 years ago. I have procrastinated on my physicals and called yesterday to schedule an appointment because I have a concerning lump in my lower abdomen. I started going to Dr Makani two weeks ago for a standard IUD consult after my last one was expelled. It's two weeks later and I'm recovering from surgery because as it turns out the IUD was perforated and outside of my uterus. The wonderful Dr Makani performed the surgery and everything went great. It was a bit of a whirlwind but I trusted her every step of the way, and I feel extremely lucky to have found this medical group. I've had it with this office! The billing is out dated! I got my FIRST bill and it said it was 30 days late!!! Wtf?! I've been calling in the morning when they first open. No answer I get a machine, no answer in the afternoon straight to machine! Finally around 4pm I got an answer only to be put on hold for 13 mins. I had to hang up to go to the bathroom. I called again and she was going to put me on hold again!!! She asked if I could hold and I told her NO I was just on hold for 13 mins, I just want to know my balance! She gave me a heavy "sigh" fine! After she told me my balance was 0 I was like, was that so hard? In my head of course.... The front "girls" yes they are girls because they were talking crap about the new girl that just got hired. How unprofessional. I have been going to this clinic for the past 8 1/2 years, and have specifically seen Dr. Truong. She is very sweet and very thorough. She delivered all four of my children, and totally supported me in the natural, drug free childbirths. Also, she was available to me, even on her off call nights, because she knew I preferred to have her deliver my babies. Overall, the clinic is a great place to receive obstetric and gynecological care. I am not crazy about the very strange ads in the video streaming for cosmetic procedures, Botox and the like. I agree with all that Dr Fainman was an exceptional doctor (for those of us out of baby mode and into menopause). She was kind, caring, informative and beyond knowledgeable on the subject. She was so great I sent my daughter before leaving for college and she handled all her questions and requests while studying on the East coast. To my surprise I called one day to find Fainman had left but I could see Dr Truong. The first visit was fine, she was kind, personable and (to me) a little ego inflated in regards to her kids etc but I looked beyond. I went two days ago (I lost my sister to brain cancer on 23rd and my Mom two weeks later on 14th). I haven't been sleeping, very depressed, isolating etc she pulls up my chart and asked why I never had a manogram last year... I go on to tell her I was planning on it after kids back to school then sister got sick, mom had stroke, broke leg and moved in it just went to the wayside (first time EVER). Of course saying this I'm crying and she says "Well I hope it wasn't from breadth cancer!" With that my legs in stirrups her phone rings- she answers- and goes to the window and moves the blinds to look outside and talk to her husband in parking lot (Uhhhhh hello!!!! I'm in the freaking stirrups!!!!) then says "oh sorry" comes to do bread you exam and says "Why you have such big implants? You don't need these they too big for you why you do this?" Feeling like a fool I honestly say " Well I was 24 and I'd give anything to remove but don't have the money!" She says "Oh my 24 you lot smaller then they couldn't look right then either!" I'm beyond words...now I'm lying there w tears streaming and she realizes what's transpired and says "Oh I'm sorry about your mom and sister..I sorry I made you cry." I say again I can't sleep and she said I'll give you something...I go out get my mammogram order and ask about prescription - well she's in w another patient and forgot. Where did Fainman go does anyone know? Plus EVERYTIME IM IN THAT OFFICE EVERYONES NEW, someone's being trained and someone's left...that should have told me then and there! DO NOT GO TO TRUONG - I left feeling so much body shame read more

I saw Dr. Truong and am sorry to say that I had a horrible experience! She is a nice lady, but not a thorough doctor. She called me in for my first prenatal visit at only 4 weeks. When she saw a very small sack on the ultrasound machine, she told me it couldn't be a baby. She proceeded to discuss "terminating the pregnancy" with me but could not tell me that anything was wrong. I looked up pics of 4 week ultrasounds and they looked very similar to mine. That is when I got really concerned about her as a doctor. The next visit, one week later, she told me the pregnancy was healthy and it was twins...again, not true! The next visit, at only 5.5 weeks, she told me she wasn't sure what she saw, that the image was blurry and that I must have miscarried because she couldn't hear a heartbeat at 5.5 weeks!!! She wanted me to consider an D&C. I immediately left her office and scheduled with another doctor. I saw the new Doctor last Thursday. My baby is perfectly healthy and growing. They told me that they do not expect to hear a heartbeat until around 10 weeks! I am writing this to inform you that you should NEVER "terminate a pregnancy" or schedule a D&C if the doctor can't even tell you something is wrong!!! Always get a second opinion!!! I wouldn't wish the emotional roller coaster that I went through with Dr. Truong on anyone. I feel that she did not explain things well, discuss all scenarios with me, or give me sufficient information. I am sorry to have to write this because she seemed like a nice person, but it is scary to think of how many people may have listened to her suggestion to "terminate the pregnancy" so early, just because it was small!! I would not have a healthy growing baby!! I hope this helps someone else! read more

I saw Dr Fainman the day after I found out I was pregnant. Regardless of me telling her my cycles are every 45 days, rather than 28, she insisted when she saw me that I was 7 weeks pregnant. She was only going by the day of my last period. When she did the ultrasound we only saw a sac, and no fetus or heartbeat.. She went on to tell me that at 7 weeks there should be a fetus, and since there is no fetus, I should prepare to begin bleeding heavily as I will most likely miscarry. She wouldn't send me for blood work either, even though I practically begged for it. After spending days crying my husband scheduled me an appointment at a different doctors office.. My new doctor explained to me that due to my 45 day cycle, I was only FOUR weeks, not 7 weeks pregnant! So that is why there was no fetus, etc. I have never had a doctor make me more upset than Dina. My beautiful HEALTHY baby is here, and he is perfectly fine! AVOID THIS OFFICE! Way to cause a bunch of unnecessary stress on a pregnant woman! read more

I had my first visit here and liked everything about this office. It was quick and easy to make an appointment, and when I arrived with my infant in tow the ladies at the front desk were so friendly and helpful, even coming out to help distract my baby while I filled out forms. I got into a room quickly and was seen fairly quickly by Dr Makani. She was very kind, thorough and answered all my questions, never making me feel rushed. I felt like the whole staff really cared about the patients and wanted to work to make sure we all got the treatment we needed. On the way out the ladies at the front desk came to talk to my baby again and even remembered his name, I would highly recommend this office! read more

I have called on several occasions with insurance questions and to book a consultation only to find the person answering phone rude and abrupt. I've only been living in the San Diego area for a little over a year, and I was pretty concerned about finding a good doctor here. I'm pretty picky, I think, and I tend to base my opinions purely off of personality. With that being said, I really appreciate what Dr. Truong has done for me. I've gone in and seen her twice now, and each time she had been easygoing, funny, and pleasant. She really knows how to carry on a conversation and make you feel comfortable (which I find important because I'm not the biggest fan of OBGYN examinations!). Talking to her feels natural and she doesn't give me the short end of the stick when it comes to information about my body. As long as I'm in San Diego, I'll be scheduling my appointments with her. The only reason why this review isn't 5 stars is because I think the front-desk staff could be a bit friendlier, but that's minor when considering my overall experience. read more

I have had two kids with this practice (Dr TRuong is awesome). Dr Truong was at one delivery and Dr Zaid at another. They are both amazing.

I am not the type that usually takes the time to review, but I was surprised by the amount of negative reviews about this obgyn office and wanted to contribute. My experience was very positive! They were able to make an appointment for me very quickly, which is unusual in my experience of needing to make appointments weeks or months in advance. I saw Dr. Fainman and she was incredibly helpful and comforting in her calm composure. She answered all my questions, did not rush me at any point, and gave me time to make decisions. She talked me through the procedures very professionally so that I was never surprised-- I could tell that she has a lot of knowledge and experience in her field, and judging by the number of "it's a boy/girl!" announcements from parents on the office door, all of the doctors have successfully helped many parents. The rooms were clean and decorated with the usual informational posters--on the screens there were pictures from someone's travels in Africa. I could tell that some of the receptionists were new because the doctors and older receptionist were actively training them both times I visited, but someone was always able to help me or answer my questions. read more
