I ordered oat groats online. The order was not shipped for 8 days.
The buyer is asked to specify for cooking or for growing, and I specified for cooking. The first cup of dry grain had a small dirt clod, a small rock, and at least a dozen unhusked oats or non-oat seeds. The smell was earthy. The oats were grey and thinner than the blond oats such as those from Honeyville. When placed in water, a significant number floated, even after stirring. As the oats cooked, the water became the color of tea, and the pot smelled like mushrooms. The cooked oats tasted unusually salty. Otherwise, they tasted neither good nor bad.
