If you want the short version: unless everything goes perfectly, you're risking your hard-earned money. Keep this in mind, I spent over $5,000 for a countertop and was provided something incorrect, and was mocked for thinking someone should apologize. If your installation is straightforward, you might be fine. But if anything--anything--goes wrong, be prepared. CCKB takes zero personal responsibility and will deflect blame onto anything or anyone else. Some background. ~15 years ago, I worked in the kitchen and bath industry. I'd heard some rumors about CCKB back then but never had much direct experience with their work. Fast forward--I was referred to them by a remodeling company. I hesitated, but decided to give them a shot based on the referral. Also worth noting: I've been involved in over four dozen kitchen installations and personally built eight wood countertops. I know how to template, how to handle out-of-plumb walls, and how overhangs work. I'm not a random customer. We had a single slab of honed quartzite, very specific design specs, and a setup that was 100% ready--walls, cabinets, and layout. During templating for the makeup vanity, it was even noted that I requested an extended overhang on the left side (near a doorway). The right side was bordered by a tall pantry-style cabinet, and the back edge met a wall that was out of plumb (which we all knew going in). What showed up? A completely botched countertop. The right side was cut at a ~15-degree diagonal--shorter in the back than the front--leaving a 7/8" gap where the counter should have been flush with the pantry cabinet. Think of a rectangle with three straight sides, and the fourth side hacked at an angle. To be fair, the installer did the best he could but neither him, nor the installation manager offered any recommendation on how to fix it. They originally offered to cut the finished left end, but neither my contract nor I could see how that would fix anything. The suggestion to fix this, came from me. After measuring the angle, there was only one way to fix the gap "Scribe it to the cabinet" just the way the template should have been done to begin with. So, he cut off the angled portion (with an impressively steady hand), but we lost the overhang we had designed. I told the install team I wasn't happy, and then, silence. No call from CCKB--just an invoice. When I finally called, I spoke with someone who I believe is a co-owner. She kept insisting the issue was due to the back wall being out of plumb--totally missing the fact that the actual error was on the side, not the back. The template and CAD drawings showed the measurements she said and the mistake was "the wall being out of plumb"; however, after speaking to everyone NOT associated with CCKB, the mistake was clearly the cut. I tried to explain calmly that this wasn't about the wall--it was a simple length measurement along the side. She repeated herself again, ignoring the facts. I finally told her, "I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say." That's when she laughed at me. Loudly. Mockingly. She then snapped, "Okay, what do you want?" I said calmly, "I don't think I should be charged full price." Her response? "Fine. I'll give you $200 off." I told her I appreciated the gesture, but what I really wanted was an apology and some accountability. Instead, she laughed again and said: "What do you want me to tell you? That you're right? Ok, You're right! *mockingly* I'm sorry, you win! Does that make you feel better?!" I was stunned. Her tone was completely unprofessional and condescending. I told her I just wanted acknowledgment of the issue, and an apology would have been nice. Let's be clear: the only reason this install was even usable was because I guided the installers on how to fix it. The installers had no plan. Bottom line, every company makes mistakes and I believe that's human. But how a company responds to those mistakes defines its integrity. CCKB failed that test completely.

John was helpful throughout the process and gave thoughtful advice. We were originally going to replace all of our carpet upstairs but John suggested we replace only the hallway carpet with hardwood and keep most of our original carpet since it was in good shape. This was cheaper, looks much better, and gives us more flexibility in the future. He also worked with us to match our existing hardwood floors (during a supply shortage no less!) and secured some of the last available boxes of what was needed. Miguel and the installation team were great. They did the entire job in two days. They were able to weave the existing floor with the new one and you can't tell where the transitions are. The carpet install was seamless and looks phenomenal. After they left I noticed a few chipped boards. I let them know and they said they'd fix them. It took a few months to get them back onsite given their schedule, but when they did the boards were replaced and everything was touched up as requested. They were responsive throughout the process, patient, did great work, and were pleasure to work with.

Instead of being charged the difference in the cost of the materials, we were charged for the cost of the materials and install without the usual mark-up. --Wrong lights installed in bathroom. --Bedroom door opened in front of window. Design error, but we were still charged for a change to the bi-parting door. --Wrong color paint on front hall wall. Told it was close enough until I hacked out a piece of old wall and had it matched myself --No air return planned for --AC move not thought about by design team or engineers. More than 2000USD to move it to a place that would allow us to hear each other talk on the deck. Chose to have someone else do that. --Generator mis- installed. When I shared link with that installation information, was ignored. New board installed. Still problem. Generac guy came out, was indeed installation. --Water in crawl space and lake around generator and front of house --New floor needed the contract pulled out to ensure no corners were being cut. Was told we were getting prestained flooring put in when contract called for flooring stained on site. Was told the weight room and closet were not getting sanded and refinished when the permits called for that. Building and Project Managers acting like they were doing me a favor in following what was in the permits and contract. --Floor installed has cracks already --Bedroom fan made fluorescent humming noise when on, and although it was changed out, I was told that I was being "too sensitive" --Shower head designed and installed at an unreasonable height --Drywall was left outside under a leaky tarp in the rain and was only replaced at my insistence --Screens were put in backward so they could only be removed/changed/cleaned from someone on a ladder outside the house --Shower surround as designed would have made the shelving unusable --The security lights on the outside of the original house were supposed to be reused, but were instead thrown out. Getting new ones and having them installed to the same specifications was a weeks long problem --Floor needed redoing, not once but twice. I have been told repeatedly that a floor has 6 sandings in it, and we are now 3 in --Drainage and waterproofing for the addition was not properly planned for or executed --Entire project was supposed to be done mid-May even with the few days delay caused by changing the foundation to pass inspection. It is now the last week September. --Not one single inspection was passed the first time. Before I could even enjoy my shower the tile walls started cracking. There was a big hole in one tile that had been filled in with grout to hide. The tiles on the bathroom floors started coming up immediately. There were so many things wrong. I eventually had to hire another contractor to come in and demo EVERYTHING that Joe had done, and redo my entire bathroom again. When the new contractor took out the shower, we found that the pipes had cuts in them and Joe had just covered them up. Everything that Joe did had to be replaced because of the poor installation. I paid him over 28k, and I paid for most of the materials myself. He is very dishonest, and made promises that he NEVER intended to keep. He said he would call me to schedule a meeting to talk about a refund, and he hasn't returned any of my calls, emails or text. if you are considering him for a job, DON'T!!!!! He and his workers who are not licensed, scratched my laminate flooring in 3 rooms. Unfortunately my flooring is no longer available so the rooms would need to be completely replaced. He said he could fix the scratches, but he hasn't. He has no regard for personal property.

No problem! Forty minutes after that, she calls to tell me that because we were interested in buying our own cabinets and appliances that they were not interested.
