We also enjoyed a lobster broth with fish (that looked like fancy miso soup), and a dessert platter of ice cream and others served with chocolate chopsticks. We tasted a lot of the rolls and sushi on the menu. The service was impeccable from start to finish. All the food was described by the waiter in great detail, and he was happy to repeat everything to my wife and I. Service was friendly and prompt. The waiter seemed to really love the food himself!! The sushi and rolls were all excellent. If you want authentic Japanese food, you're not going to enjoy Kobe Jones' sushi. They're not aiming for authenticity, but are trying to create something new and exciting, without being pinned down by any strong tradition. My wife, who moved from Japan to Melbourne only 4 years ago, really enjoyed "trying something new", and so did I. I've been to Japan 20+ times, but still felt like I was eating something for the first time. We loved the crunchy (panko-crumbed?) soft shell crab sushi, volcano roll, and liberal use of avocado and crab meat in a number of the other sushi. We enjoyed everything we tried except the lollipop sushi. Original and beautiful, but I felt the flavour of the cucumber overpowered the rest of the flavours. The soup was outstanding, and we're still trying to figure out what the crunchy strands were. We really enjoyed this. It was served cool or lukewarm, which may have helped bring out some of the flavours that would be hidden if served too hot or cold. Overall, I'd give Kobe Jones a 4.5/5 if I could, but am willing to round up instead of down because I don't see anything wrong with the food or experience.

I love tomato sauce but this was too much. Others had the barramundi. It was on the menu as grilled barramundi with calamari. The barra was crumbed though which took people by surprise as that wasn't mentioned on the menu. Again, the calamari on top of the barramundi was in that thick tomato sauce which was not specified either and didn't agree with several people. Dessert was ok. The tiramisu was served at the table with the glad wrap removed in front of everyone to reveal the dish. A tad eccentric. The trio of gelato was nice but not that well priced at $12. Service was not that great here either. The staff weren't really on their game and tried to clear dishes several times that hadn't been finished. Once is understandable. Multiple times is not. I don't like talking places down but this was a disappointing meal overall. I detect warning signs here as it's hard to talk up any aspect of the experience.

I like the chicken chop, chicken, vegetables and rice or the beef and bean shoots with flat rice noodles. I am sure there are other yummy dishes on the extensive menu. It's noisy, very popular and once again no-frills but it works well as a place to grab lunch with a workmate.
