I opened four CD accounts on the same day. The officer who opened my CDs asked prying questions…read morethat bordered on inappropriate. She also insisted on doing a hard credit inquiry, although I was DEPOSITING money, not borrowing. This unnecessary action results in a temporary, but annoying, reduction in credit score. Instead of a welcome packet, as you would expect from a normal credit union, she gave me a crummy cash register tape two feet long. It took her an hour to open the accounts, and her smarmy behavior made me want a shower. Two weeks after my only visit, she struck again. This time, she had a flunky call my phone and ask personal questions that sounded very much like a scam; like the many warnings you see from legitimate organizations: "We will never call you and ask for personal information..."; MTC isn't like a legitimate organization. When I hung up on the flunky, the original officer called me and told me that if i didn't believe she was who she said she was, I could call her back at the number she gave. She wouldn't tell me what the problem was, and I was already pretty concerned that my $50K+ was in some kind of danger or wasn't accruing interest. So I brought up their website and called to ask if the number the officer had left was valid. Then I called her back. Apparently she had gotten into some kind of trouble because she hadn't noticed that one of the items I deposited was a check made out to and endorsed by someone else. By now the check had cleared but now she wanted to give the same intrusive questions to the other person. You're probably as tired of reading about her drama as I am of writing it. Suffice it to say that she has continued to pester us now for several days. MTC does not inspire confidence. If you want to park money at interest, you don't expect any unprofessional drama. Even if the interest rate is a little lower somewhere else, it makes sense to give MTC a pass.
