CON ARTIST, THIEF and a LIAR ... he is "not" a Contractor. Doug Woods Construction was referred to us by a friend & we decided to go with Woods & signed a contract with down payment of $11K with Woods Constr. on 7/18/23. At the time of signing Doug Woods told us that we would not start the job until Sep 2023. We started reaching out on 9/9/23 multiple times for a start date & each time he had excuse after excuse! We complained in a text on 12/9/23 and told him that he does nothing he says he is going to do and doesn't follow through. Doug replied & apologized for such a rough & ridiculous start & promised to be at our home on Mon, 12/11/23. Woods said that the cement is lined up for Tues for the footers and Block was ordered & confirmed that he does good work and said that he wants to make us happy. BIG MISTAKE ... but we decided to give him another chance. After that his guys would show up, work 2 or 3 hours however, we were lucky to see them once or twice every 3 weeks - if that! Woods would show up & drop off one or two dozen block & that was his days work then we would not see him again for weeks. Even one of his workers told us he felt sorry for us. In March 2024, Woods said he was going to start tearing off the siding which was in the original contract & my husband said NO you are not that you need to complete the front porch and we are not going to go any further with Woods Construction because you do not do anything you say you are going to do. Had he torn off siding, our house would have been without an unfinished porch & no siding. At that point (March 2024) we made Woods Constr. get a permit from South Shenango Township before he completed the porch since we wanted his work inspected going forward. Mr. Woods told the Township & it is listed on our permit in the window that the total porch job would cost an estimated $40,000.00. That is why we are asking for $21,000.00 returned to us. On 7/19/24 a little over a year & $31,000.00 later & promise after promise that were never kept we FIRED Woods. Woods did cut down 2 trees, & for the small amount of material that he did use for our job & for tearing off our wood front porch & front porch roof that my husband had to finish tearing off the roof and porch because Woods left the bottom 4 feet across the front and the support beams were left hanging & it looked like crap from the road. You can see our home from our street & it was so embarrassing! We asked for only half of the money back ($15,500.00). In a text on 7/19/24 he said that he has $15,000.00 of a custom lumber pkg & he can't sell it and asked in a text "where do you want the materials delivered" we told him that we do not believe he has the materials that this is another one of his lies. In a text on 7/23/24 he said that he will set up delivery of the custom lumber package. Still no custom lumber pkg on 7/25/24 was delivered. We reached out again, Doug said that delivery won't be until next week that they don't deliver & he is unable to haul it himself until then. Funny he didn't know that his supplier doesn't deliver? Hmmmmm! That is because it is another one of his lies. We asked him not to deliver the lumber pkg that we want to see it first & asked him for the company name and phone # so that we can speak to his supplier about the material before it is delivered. Doug said in a text that he doesn't have the phone # but can get an address that they (supplier) will help us. We reached out again on 7/26/24 and 7/29/24 for the company name and address. As of the date of this review 8/16/24, Still nothing! Woods has never responded with the suppliers name & phone & never delivered the custom lumber pkg.
Since Doug Woods started the job very slowly in Dec 2023, our once beautiful house & our yard has looked like a war zone for 8 months. When he tore off the front porch Woods did not divert the water & when it rained water leaked in our house on all 3 floors. We now have leaks, mold and fungus in the basement. Concrete slab has the complete wrong elevation throughout. Joints in the concrete are not straight at all. Siding & windows on front is splattered with cement as a result of a sloppy concrete job. Concrete forms were left on the edge of the concrete slab. Woods did not leave enough overhang and we will not be able to put the stone we selected; we will need to select another product. Cement block steps are 2" out of square. Overall, the little work that Woods did do... everywhere is uneven or unfinished.
Two reputable contractors that came out to look both agreed that Woods Construction did no more than $10,000.00 of work and it was of poor craftsmanship.
Doug Woods is the most dishonest person we ever met. He tells lie after lie to cover up lies. He has at least $21,000.00 of our money that he DID NOT EARN OR USE TO PAY FOR A CUSTOM LUMBER PKG.
