This is such a cozy, small corner bar on Polk Street. The service by Connor is really warm and welcoming! He is the best. At the bar I really like the dry cider. They also serve empanadas! People seem to like the ham and cheese, I tried it and thought it was okay, I personally like the mushroom and I'd come back to try the other flavors. Been meaning to drop by here for over 2yrs, finally checked it out yesterday. Cute, tiny place with outdoor and indoor options. Friendly service and a variety of beer on tap and in cans. Unfortunately they don't have Heff on tap often and didn't have it yesterday. Tasted a couple options and chose the Marzen, but would have preferred a clean, crisp wheat. I also tried 2 empanadas! Yummy, warm and easy to eat. I liked the Chard more than the Mushroom one. Will try the Beef and Ham ones next time if they have a clean, crisp wheat on tap. We've been to Woods in Oakland so when we stumbled across this location, we knew we had to stop for tasty beer! We are absolute fans of their different flavours of beer. They're unique and refreshing and delicious. We go out of our way to try their Girl Scout flavoured drinks when they come into the rotation and they never disappoint. My favourite of theirs by far is the Morpho, a hibiscus ale that's light and refreshing and not too beer-y tasting for those who aren't a fan of the bitter beverages. They also have a few non-beer drinks such as ciders and seltzers. This location also carries wine and food, which are delicious as well. Definitely check out this brewery at any location for something different and yummy. read more

Really a fantastic bar. Small bar with only a few seats indoor (3-4 at the bar and a few more at the other table) with a few more seats outside surrounded by heat lamps. If you're looking for a small bar with good beer, this is your spot. Bartender is great and is a good person to strike a conversation with. They have one TV that is typically playing a sports game. Stopped in on a Friday night at 11:30 pm with a few friends. The place is way smaller than we were expecting, but it was clean and well-laid out. At night it has a very intimate vibe that's perfect for being able to talk with friends. It only holds about 15 people comfortably, but we were able to grab one of the tables with no problem. I guess being at the farther end of Polk St. things don't get too crazy here. Excellent if you're looking to drink & chat, not drink & rage. A 4-beer flight is $10 - you get pretty decent pours of each and my bf and I were easily able to share one. If you're starting the night here, though, get one of your own. ;-) They have something for everyone, and even though they were out of their first 2 beers, I was able to find another two that I liked pretty well - the Tartare sour was a stand-out. I'm a bit of a craft brew hater when it comes to the arms race of hoppiest suds that seems to be going down in NorCal. Bitter beers are very much not my thang. Loved the craft brew and hiking guidebooks on shelves around the place, and the easy-to-read menu. Chico serves the best chunky beer. Chico is the man. Highly recommend. Ask for the chunky beer - you won't be disappointed. Also want to note- I'm not a natural beer drinker. I live for my mixed drinks and for a nice glass of wine, but Chico has always let me try different beers (and different wines/seltzer's) until I figured out which drink my go-to at Woods. This place is fantastic. We were strolling around the neighborhood, and my girlfriend had apparently been here before. We popped in, had a couple really great beers and an equally tasty empanada. The bartender was a real nice bloke. He seemed to be pretty involved with the brewery and shared some info on their expansion plans. I finally hit this place on a Saturday Afternoon and I was very pleased with my visit. I've heard about Woods for a while. It's small and not a super-well-marked place, so I've walked by many times. They bring a small Craft-Brew and Empanada selection. The menu is about 7-deep for the beer-selections. They have a 4-beer 4oz. sampler-deal. Everything I tried was good. Nothing was off the charts, but nothing disappointed. It's an intimate space, so the good service was helpful in facilitating the beer choices. The bartender was terrific. I've not had the Empanadas here. El Porteno is at the Ferry Building too. I've enjoyed what I had there. They have them here, too. So, you got food options. Check it out. I was really happy with everything. I've only been here once, but I'll be back. There's a lot of good things happening in this neck-o-the-Woods. read more

We checked out Woods last weekend while they were doing a collaboration with Bobs donuts. Our entire experience was wonderful. The staff was extremely nice and approachable. The beer and ciders we tried were also quite great - we will be back to try more! We also tried a few different empanadas - they were a lot bigger than we anticipated, but they were delicious. Great, new bar in Russian Hill. It's by the same folks that run Cervecería de MateVeza on 18th & Church in the Mission. This set-up is very similar, although the decor here is quite different. At Polk Station there's pseudo-picnic tables and wooden walls so it's more of an outdoor feel. Small space, quality crafted original brews plus local guest beers on tap. Much like Cervecería, they also have empanadas from El Porteño (yep, the place from the Ferry Building). Overall, chill place to sample some really great beers and have a lively time with friends. read more

I found this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I did. What a small cute place! I ordered the house flight and I loved all the beers! And oh my god, the empanadas were really good. I had such a fun time hanging out there on a weekend, playing cards, drinking & eating. It's tough if you're with a big group of people, but it's possible. TINY local brewer with a handful of their own brews and a few high quality guest brews. Had a terrific Prairie funky gold Amarillo when I visited. Clearly a local joint and when I went in I felt like I wasn't a local. Maybe just the current group of guys at the bar who thought they were clearly craft experts/snobs. The kind that make you cringe when you hear them tossing their "knowledge" around - pretentious springs to mind. I asked the tender about my Prairie brew and she said "I wish I knew about that one". I asked about the SF Brewers Guild beer and the response was literally identical. Good beer but grab it and get away from the bar to one of the 3 tables if you can. read more

Stumbled across this place while vacationing in SF. The place seemed cool, at first. Decent beer selection. Good music playing, and the bartender Chico, seemed nice enough. I'm leaving a star only because the beer was great and like I mentioned I enjoyed the music playing. So they serve empanadas. A great little snack to go along with your beer, but boy was I was wrong! That was the worst tasting chicken empanada I've ever had. I'm Colombian so I grew up eating them. Now these were Argentinian, but regardless the meat tasted old. Like they used expired chicken . Now let's get into the real reason why I'm leaving this review. The bartender, Chico. He gave my bf and I a couple recommendations on local spots which was nice, but then when it was time to pay the tab he short changed us. My bf and I both bartend so we get the hustle, but to scam tourists like that just because it was slow at your bar is NOT cool. We still tipped on top of that just show him we weren't cheap. I promise I am not a creeper, nor am I hitting on you--in fact, I came in last Saturday with two of my best friends and my husband, so I am not in fact lacking in that department and am marginally adept at forming human relationships. However, we all found you to be so incredibly friendly, and so marvelously knowledgable about all your beer, and so clearly in love with beer itself, that we all felt a desperate need to hang out with you more. As beer-obsessors ourselves, we tend to crush on those who really, REALLY know their stuff, and take such pleasure in sharing it with others. We'd like to think that you gave us free tastes of every beer on the menu, told us all about the brewing process, explained the awesome concept behind this small, craft SF brewery (with locations in San Francisco, Oakland, and now Treasure Island), gave us a secret taste of the un-menu-ed beer you were drinking, and answered all our myriad questions because you, too, desired to be our best friend, but we suspect you actually do that with everyone. Therefore, Yelpers, you should go to this place to meet the amazing bartenders and try the incredible beer. The beer in this place is TOTALLY unique. And I drink a LOT of beer. I have more beer in my fridge than food. That said, I've never tasted anything like what they're pouring. The Mateveza Yerba Mate IPA is insane--it has more caffeine than a coke and tastes marvelous: tropical, candied citrus with just a hint of the mate that adds a sort of hoppiness that just edges on the sour side. The Local Honey is an acquired taste, but such a cool one: imagine no hops at all, but instead a whole herbal bouquet. So instead of the usual tropical or pine or dank notes of hops you get eucalyptus and lavender and (of course) honey--but it's not sweet, it's almost more like beer tea. Finally, the Thick Mint porter was so delicious I wanted to get a straw and suck it up like a milkshake. The concept? Beer to pair with girl scout cookies. And it WORKS. Oh, how it works. The space is teeny weeny, which is part of its charm. It's got a fun sort of picnicky feel--like a tiny indoor beer garden you go to with friends to try delicious new boozes and to awkwardly friend-crush on the bartender. Good beer, good vibe, good food, what more can you ask for? I was initially skeptical when I heard that their food was empanadas. The space is so small they couldn't possibly make and serve good empanadas. Turns out they get them from the Argentinian place in the Ferry Building. Y'all, they're amazing. Hot and fluffy, flavorful and crisp. I had the ham and cheese (my favorite...uses real ham, not the lunch meat crap you get in omelettes), chicken, zucchini, and swiss chard. I think the ham/cheese and swiss chard were my favorites, but I'm honestly not sure. They were all very good. The beers are from some brewery in the mission (or something like that), so they're all craft and good. I don't think they serve a full pint, which is disappointing, but a pretty good deal nonetheless (*especially* for the Polk St neighborhood). The venue is cozy and well laid out for how tiny it is.
