I took my son's trumpet (a school loaned instrument) in, after he managed to get the mouth piece stuck in it after only a few days. I was politely directed to the repair part of the shop and told to wait for "Andy" (apologies if the name is wrong). Immediately, a polite woman from behind the counter said "stuck mouth piece? I can do that for you". Sixty seconds later it was all done, I asked how much I owed and was told no charge. The kind lady even showed me how he should put it in and clean it to avoid it getting stuck in future. Amazing and friendly service, you can park directly outside the shop. If my son sticks with the trumpet, I'll be certain to come back to buy him a trumpet for the shop. Rare to see such enthusiastic customer service and kindness. This is, without a doubt, the place to go for everything saxophone related in Cambridge. Despite having been born and bred in the city, I now live abroad and only get the opportunity to visit infrequently and rarely with my saxes in tow. When I do, however, it's usually for specialised repair work and the staff are always very accommodating. Daniel (the owner) was kind enough to repair my baritone sax last year as a drop in and Tim did a wonderful job on servicing and repairing my tenor sax this year. The staff are extremely talented and their conscientious individualised approach is excellent. Both instruments now play like a dream. The shop boasts a huge and varied range of accessories such as mouthpieces, ligatures, swabs, cases, slings etc. Avoiding temptation is difficult and I rarely manage to leave the shop without spending money on things I never knew I needed. It's that amazing. They sell a wide range of instruments too and there is a dedicated practice booth upstairs to try instruments or mouthpieces before you buy. I should point out that the shop doesn't solely deal in saxophones. They cover a wide range of single and double reed wind instruments, flutes and brass. Aside from the main shop, the business also operates Reeds Direct, a specialist mail order supplier of reeds offering a huge range at competitive prices. I order all my reeds via the website and the service is of the same great quality as the shop. So, if you're a brass or wind player, this is a great place. Terrible experience with this company. After selling four professional saxophones through them I called to get an appraisal on two further instruments, one a professional Yamaha saxophone and was given an approximate valuation over the phone which seemed high even though I asked them to double check. After being assured this was correct and categorically told that they would be happy to sell them I made the hours journey to the shop. On arrival I was told that the valuation was wrong and that my professional, good quality Yamaha saxophone would not "fit in" with their customer base and they refused to put it up for sale, wasting 2 hours of my time. Their attitude toward me was shocking especially as they had sold at least four and a half thousand pounds worth of saxophone of mine that they had happily taken a hefty commission on. Based on this I would not be happy to do business here again, nor would I recommend any of my 30 or so saxophone students to spend money there. Nor will I be choosing this company to sell my other highly collectable rare instruments when there's other people who don't mess you around and who value your custom so much more. read more
