I rarely write reviews; I prefer just to keep my opinions to myself. However, in this case, I believe that the owner at least needs to know about my experience. Ordinarily, I would send an email or private message, but unfortunately I could not find the means to do that with this business. I needed some champagne for mimosas for Mother's Day. I work multiple jobs with odd hours and hadn't been able to pick it up until the night before. I had, however, researched liquor store curbside pickup in Rochester earlier (on the city's on website, no less), and saw that Woody's was authorized to do that. So I planned a pickup from Hy-Vee, and a pickup from Woody's and was fully expecting that everything would work out fine (being that Woody's--as confirmed by the city's website--could, in fact, do curbside pickup). About a half hour before I needed to head to Hy-Vee for the pickup, I called Woody's. I'll do my best to convey the conversation I had faithfully, no doubt forgetting some of the details: -*several rings* -Business: *muffled* "Woody's" -Me: "Hi there. I was curious if you all sold small bottles of champagne or something similar?" -Business: *long pause* "Hello, Woody's LIQUOR." (the last word being heavily emphasized) -Me: *a little confused, but I'm wearing a cloth mask, so I'm thinking maybe she didn't hear me* "Hi, I'm sorry, can you hear me ok?" -Business: "I can hear you juuuuust fine." -Me: "Um ok, I was wondering if you all sold small bottles of champagne?" -Business: *another long pause* "As opposed to...................the NORMAL bottles of champagne?" -Me: *feeling more confused, because I've purchased small bottles of champagne/sparkling wine from other places many times in the past* "...yes...?" -Business: *slightly shorter pause* "We sell normal bottles of champagne." -Me: *somewhat relieved that to have a normal--if brusque--answer to a question* "Oh, ok, that's fine then. How much are your cheaper bottles?" Business: "Are you looking for prices?" Me: "...yes..." Business: "K. Well we got Cooks for $x, *muffled* for $y, and ummm, we got Cooks for $x." Me: "Um, well, ok. What was the second one you said?" Business: *long pause* "The Cooks?" Me: "Um, no the other one you mentioned." Business: *long pause* "*muffled*?" Me: *Irritated that I missed the name again, but mostly with my phone and myself* "Yeah, people seem to like it?" Business: *long pause* "It's $y." Me: "Ummm (*in my head: what the hell is happening right now*), ok, well that sounds fine. I'd like to do curbside pickup for that." Business: *very long pause* Business: "You can come into the store and get it yourself." Me: *confused* "Ok, well is curbside pickup an option?" Business: *long pause* "YOU can COME IN and get it YOURSELF." Me: *very irritated* "Um, k" Business: *click* I have no idea if that's the way the whole staff is, or just this one woman. I have no idea what is happening in her life or in the store. Perhaps she had a justification for treating me like an idiot. I don't know, and I'll never be going in to Woody's to find out. I don't want her to be fired, or punished or whatever; but I do want her and the owner to know that she lost the business a potential customer before I even walked in the door. Please, train your employees to be polite. Train them in the basics of phone etiquette. If there are workplace issues that are contributing to her (or other employees) rudeness, please resolve them. Maybe install a call recording system, and offer rewards for most polite staff member, or pay them commission for sales. I don't know. What I do know, is I can guarantee if the current attitude and treatment of customers persists, that there will be many, many more customers (potential and current) that will take their money to one of the other gazillion liquor stores in Rochester that don't treat their customers as though alienating them is the goal. read more
