And out of left field comes another contender for the title of oldest pub in Australia - The Woolpack Hotel in Paramatta (or at least that what it claims, though I am a little doubtful since the Rocks was around long before Paramatta - but I guess they are trying to claim to be the oldest pub that is still standing). Anyway, ignoring it's attempts of fame the Woolpack is, well, a rather bland hotel, despite it's age (even if it isn't the oldest). It's your typical suburban pub - pokies, sports bar, dining room, beer garden and the like. I didn't mind it, but that probably had more to do with its age than anything else. I doubt I'd visit this place again anyway. read more
