I go to Jody at Wooptido and she does a great job. I first went there because a friend had a great haircut, so naturally I wanted to go to her stylist. At the time I was trying to grow my hair out for my wedding. Jody has helped me grow my hair out wonderfully - which is difficult because I have very straight hair and normally it looks dead when it gets too long. But she's given me layers and it looks better than it ever has! I think the price is fair, I pay $125 for cut/color about once every 2.5-3 months. It's worth it to me to not have to fight with my hair every day! Jody often brings her adorable dog Lola there, so if you like dogs you'll have a lap-puppy during your visit. Well Jody has done it again. I am so impressed with her ability to color and style my hair. Reds can be difficult and she did a phenomenal job. However, this time she really went above and beyond. I've been going to Deann for 10 years and am so glad that she has found her perfect fit at Wooptido. A little retro, a little new age, a little biker - Deann has it all and so does this charming salon! The location is right off Burnside so it's easy to get to weather I'm at home or on my way home from work. Visiting Deann is always the perfect way to end a day at work (and a great reason to leave work early!). Over the years she's always makes my fine, thin straight hair look it's best - even when I gave her the challenge of even thinner hair while I went though chemo. Trust me - I've tried a lot of different hairdressers and salons (downtown, out of their homes, at the mall, etc.) including (shudder) the bargain cut places (funny...I didn't recall asking for my bangs to be a quarter inch higher on that side...). No one has been able to maintain the consistent results that Deann has or been as fun and easy to get to know. So not only is Deann a great lady and hairdresser - Wooptido has the added attraction of a doggy mascot. Imagine this - you can go shopping, out to lunch, get your hair done, have a dog therapy session and get groceries at WholeFoods before you go home - all within walking distance from your parking space. My mother didn't instruct me on proper grooming techniques. She was too busy teaching me how to reduce my enemies to tears with a single word. With that in mind, my hair care regime is in the shampoo bottle. I get it cut maybe once a year, when it's gone fully beyond the Thunderdome to limp towards a wilted Tina Turner fate. At this point, I contact Staci. As a member of the style-retarded class, I always forget my picture of Jennifer Aniston, which leaves me no choice but to say: do whatever you want. In the past, the result of such trust has been a whole lot of bowl cuts and feeling degraded. Staci manages to pull off something with genuine geometry, a twisted science-art harmony that keeps me just feral enough that I recognize myself and vaguely resemble my driver's license photo. There's a seriousness to her hair approach that indicates an artistry beyond what you normally find in salons. She does this without asking me whether or not I have a boyfriend, or discussing the finer points of Brad Pitt's movie cannon. Brad Pitt's fine, but most salon talk makes me want to commit Hare Kare, and Staci spares me that suffering. She also recently started doing feather extensions, which is a fine thing to have occupying your hair, especially if you're rocking the feral. read more

I went in to get a bad highlight job fixed (I was avoiding mirrors for weeks), and Jody not only corrected the color by removing the worst of the highlights and somehow managing to retain the best of the highlights, but she made my coarse, frizzy hair look better than it has ever looked. The color is perfect (and now I can let it grow out naturally without drama), the cut is perfect and she created layers that work beautifully where no other stylist has been able to achieve. She gave me advice about how to care for my particular type of hair, and even showed me how to blow dry it to achieve good results. She went above and beyond.
