After leaving the SJ Convention Center's Snowboarding festival yesterday, my husband and I found ourselves in front of the Works Art Gallery. It sits in between the Center and the nearby public parking garage. It was free to go in so we excitedly entered to view the current art exhibit: American Gun Show. Sculptures, paintings, prints, and 3D-printed guns were all on display, and Bonnie at the entrance was happy to walk around with us and tell us about a few of the pieces and the artists who created them. She was well-educated on the pieces and very interesting to listen to. They have some world-known artists on display, and local artists' pieces as well. It was a wonderful collection and really fun to walk around. The gallery is small - leave them a donation if you enjoy the experience!

This is a cute, local gallery that I really enjoyed. It is free, quirky, and nicely put together. Smart, helpful staff too!

Visited this art gallery and it was very nice! We attended an art auction gala. It sounds fancy but was very casual. We heard about this by searching local events online. It was fantastic and supports local artist which is great! The art was affordable for all different price levels and it was so cool! The staff was wonderful. I'd definitely go again! Cute place with very wonderful art for all tastes.

A large, open and well lighted space. Street metered parking. Different exhibits each month.

It was great for being able to 'visualize' what everything would have looked like back then. It did seem like quite a few artifacts were casts of the real thing though. There was plenty to see and we spent a few hours there. The staff are also very friendly and passionate about the subject. Even when we were just looking at exhibits, they told us about different facts / activities that the museum was hosting. Outside, there was plenty of parking and even a garden you could visit. We were able to grab a variety of items for lunch including iced tea and coffee beverages from Travelin' Tom's Coffee of Mountain View, a yummy quesadilla from El Viejon, and a tasty sandwich from Chick N Bros food truck. If there's anything I think could make this place better, it's grass. But I understand, not every park or plaza can offer this. It's a beautiful venue nonetheless, for community events and the arts.

A couple of the numbers I actually jumped back in my seat it seemed like they got too close! But amazing performance by San Jose Taiko!! This particular evening, I saw a friend performing in "shaking the mess out of misery! I love how this particular play had the proper lingo and accents of the era and that southern hospitality sound!! I had to look up a couple of the words, but the play, and the overall meaning itself was great!! As we left at the performance, and actually started raining and they're beautiful open area outside/the front of the Mexican heritage. Plaza glistened and gleamed with lights! However, I attended Little Village's Big Easy Block Party & Beer Fest this past weekend and had an enjoyable time. John Blues Boyd band performing the blues at Poor House Bistro's patio stage where I snacked on some delicious baked dessert while delighting in the spirited musical entertainment, and All Things Swamp putting on an engaging show at the main stage in the early afternoon (I didn't stay for the later bands but I'm sure the remaining performances didn't disappoint). Some great community events are held at Little Italy San Jose, like car shows, cultural celebrations, food fairs, and art & music festivals, many of them free to attend. But on a regular day, it's mainly a small collection of restaurants selling italian cuisine, wine, and other goods. Parking is extremely limited and can be difficult, even when no special events are happening in the vicinity.

The location is also pure perfection because it is within the same block as several restaurants and bars for those who want to grab a bite or drink before or after their show. The only (small) downside is finding parking. We parked in an outdoor lot 2 blocks away for $20. It is about the average rate for the area but still seems steep to me for a 2 hour show. *breathe* Trying to not sweat the small stuff, so I say pay for the steep parking and enjoy the gorgeous theater and watch a nice show! It will be worth the experience.

Sure, it was nice that the opera was NOT nine hours long, but that's me. Your mileage may vary. The outside of the building blends in so well to its surroundings, you may not notice it at first. But, the California Theatre is easy to find, and perfect to walk to from parking or a restaurant. Even in the entrance way before you walk in (where there's the Box Office for will-call or day-of tickets), you see the elegance and grandeur that awaits. Still, there's nothing stuff about it at all. Every staff member or volunteer I encountered was helpful, friendly, and welcoming. There happened to be live music in the Lobby before and after the performance. Refreshments are found on each floor. We had Orchestra Seats. The opera looked and sounded crisp. The singing, the set, the orchestra, the costumes all radiated excitement and serious fun. This particular opera, by Bela Bartok, is rarely done and having some familiarity with the composer, I was excited to check it out. Very much enjoyed the opera, and the venue. If you are an SJSU student, ask about tickets and/or big discounts available at the Box Office.

Sadly, for a musuem recommendation for the kids, it feels quite limited in what they have to offer and other museums in the Bay Area have more to do for the kids and even the adults. I was quite disappointed at how much has changed at the Tech Initiative (not Tech Museum) recently. It felt like a lot of the key exhibits and attractions of the museum have been replaced or lost vs what it used to be a couple years ago. The museum felt unusually more spacious i.e. a lot of empty space than before due to exhibits being removed and interestingly, it felt slightly outdated. The Human Body exhibit was still there so that was nice to walk through and the Rube Goldberg exhibit outside was exactly as it was years back. The gift store was pricey and didn't have as much interesting gifts but the IMAX show felt just like before & was included in the admission, which was nice. With all the changes that this museum has gone through, I unfortunately won't be coming back here in a while until there's something new that's rolling through.

They make a lot of effort to decorate and set up a spoooky ambiance. The cast were really into character and it was really fun. I also enjoyed their Halloween styled drinks - it truly set the mood! For the regular tours, I was pretty disappointed. For the following reasons: - tour was WAY too big (could not hear and it was hard to follow along) - tour content was a bit lacking. I came in with a rough idea of who Sarah Winchester was and didn't learn much beyond that. Might be different if you don't know anything about the area though - tour guides were kind of cranky.
