I got to admit, having lived across the US, I used to love Dean and Deluca (not sure if Summerville had one and if they still exist). The place had an upscale vibe to it with better than your grocery store type of food offerings and products. World Market kind of, sort of, not really but sort of fills a little of that void. It also has a certain Bed Bath and Beyond feel, geez anyone else these once great pillars of our shopping experience are gone? Anyways, World Market has a lot inventory and items for the home chef, as well as some Hoby Lobby type enthusiast. This particular store is in a safe part of town with plenty of parking and is very clean. Walking in, I mentioned all the other examples that seem to have an influence on this retailer. So, if any of them fit your liking, well this is the place for you! The reason I was in the store is to get some rare pasta shapes. Quick aside, I love different pasta shapes b/c they literally taste different b/c how they hit the pallet. Don't believe me? As a former chef, tell me macaroni and spaghetti taste the same, they don't! Anyways I was purchasing some principesse pasta (think fettuccini with the lasagna frills on the side, splendid). It's cut with a bronze dye which means it gives a rough texture, perfect for holding sauces and gripping the tongue rather than sliding off. I also picked up some German egg noodles (mini-lasagna) which look like pappardelle with ruffles. Besides online, this is the only local store that carries the shapes. Ok pasta course is over. They have a wide selection of interesting chips, wines, coffees, Asian drinks and ramen noodles, specialty candies and more things that I don't have time to discuss. In other words, this place offers products that you've probably never consider, which really will enhance your life. If you're there, steer clear of the Lindl gourmet truffles unless you have a deal with the belt b/c they're so darn good. I highly advise taking a moment to scan their spices and oils section as well. My only draw back is I wish they had a refrigerated section. While there, they have an interesting kitchen utensils section as well as creative dinnerware, not like those huge cheap places which have no character but only corporate uniformity. I rather liked a lot of their dishes and could envision myself with my pinky up eating crumpets and sipping noon tea! Now they have some furniture and stuff but to be perfectly honest I had no interest in their offerings so I can't speak to quality, price or selection, but it's there if you want to take a looksie. Finally, they are holiday influences so lets say it's Christmas time, they'll have a good amount of space dedicated to things like reefs, lights, ornaments, you name it. I think it's refreshing to have options out there to offset the mainstream. As far as prices, they're a little higher with good reason, it's not the normally created stuff. But at least the option is out there. To wrap up, the employees are nice and ring you up quickly while joyfully answering questions. They have an inventory of items unlike many other places making it a unique shopping experience. Furthermore, it's clean and safe which provides for a laid-back shopping experience. Drop on by, but avoid the upscale candy isle, your hips will thank me! read more

First and foremost I highly recommend signing up for the World Market rewards program - you get deals around your birthday like 15% off your purchase, emails about sales or new products featured, and at first I was hesitant to provide my phone number, but that's the quickest way I get notifications on occasion when there's a sale or a free item when you make an in-store purchase. Each time I walk through the sliding doors, an associate greets me and I wave back with a smile, I like how friendly they are and helpful too if you're looking for something in particular. I always swing by the health + beauty section especially to browse the clearance section, there's a unique variety of soaps, bath products, room diffusers. World Market is the best spot to get birthday or wedding gifts from cards to unique products. They have some really cute furniture, lamps, and rugs. The food and wine section is where I splurge the most! With your Explorers discount you also get good deals on the wine. Around the holidays is when they pull all the stops! I found some cute holiday greeting cards last year but will be mindful to check the envelope texture: the kind I got were hard to address with marker or pen (couldn't even write on them) so needed to get creative with plain stickers to address the small area. The other day I came in here to see if this store had the Nylah bookshelf in stock so I could get it faster (since I had ordered one to the West Ashley store and it said it was going to take 10 days to arrive). The manager, Olivia, helped me out SO much. Not only was she so sweet and willing to help me, but she went out of her way to assist me by calling on my behalf to cancel my previous order (because when I called they told me my cancellation may or may not get approved lol). Then, she signed me up for their rewards program so I got 15% off my bookshelf! All in all, I saved some money and got my bookshelf so much faster!! I am so appreciative of Olivia's kindness and over the top customer service. She truly went above and beyond for me and she made my whole night! I have a love/hate relationship with World Market. You can find really cool items in the store but sometimes you will pay a lot for it. Don't come here if you're on a budget because your budget will be out of the window when you go to the register and realize you have $100 worth of snacks and candles. Or maybe I don't have self control. In any case, World Market has neat items from all over. Food, uncomfortable fancy furniture, bath items...this place has it all. I especially like coming here for the Australian soft licorice. I am not even a licorice fan usually but that soft licorice is amazing. It comes in a variety pack of flavors. Please don't buy them all. Save me some! I get excited about World Market. I would cry if they shut down but I would save a lot of money. Of course I'll be back. read more

I have always loved World Market because they have the most unique items and it is always a pleasure to peruse the isles. With Covid, wandering about isn't what we should be doing at this time. So I wanted to review them for their safety measures. For the holiday season, the Azalea Square location is open at 11. Previously they opened at 12 with 11 being available to high risk customers. Masks are mandatory and there is a hand sanitizing station when you walk in. Carts are left outside and baskets are inside with neither being visibly wiped down as you see in other stores. Staff wear masks and there are signs up about distancing yourself from others. As always, their selection of items is great and if you are looking for a gift, this is the place to go. I often come here for Christmas decorations as they do a heavy Scandinavian representation here; which I love. They also have such a great food selection. If you are looking for teacher gifts you can easily put together a gift basket here. Checkout is where they lose a star for me. The wait is a bit which is expected for the holiday season. But the area isn't completely marked off and customers tend to cut in line without realizing. The actual line does have floor markers for where to stand but the roped off area only goes through a section of the total line area. They seem a bit understaffed as well so if somebody has a return you are waiting for a while. Other than that, this is a great store and one of my absolute favorites. read more

This is our go-to place to find new root beers to try (this has been another one of my son's obsessions for the last year). We've been here twice in the last week and found 4 new ones we hadn't seen before. The store is a little disorganized, in my opinion, as sodas can be found in multiple spots and some times high up or all alone on a bottom shelf. There are also ones that were in the cooler up front that we didn't see in the back of the store. The store has lots of neat things you can't find elsewhere around here. They also have neat decor. We went up here because the West Ashley Store did not have what we needed and we just had to have this item right away for our new porch. We went a little crazy and got a bunch of stuff. We got plenty of assistance as well. We were having a problem seeing black from navy some staff was able to scan and tell us which was which and we got most of what we needed. This was the last day of a sale so they were not able to get everything we needed so we went back to West Ashley and picked up more that the staff made sure to hold for us. The store was pretty well organized and the staff was very helpful. It was worth the drive to Summerville. read more

My other half is an Aussie, so we like to go to World Market for Australian chocolate. We can find it at other places, but World Market carries it for a good price, especially compared to the cost in Aussie-land. I also love, love, love the wine selection. I don't feel like I'm breaking the bank when I buy a bottle to try like I do at some liquor stores. The store has some nice furniture, but I can't attest to the quality, as I have never bought it. I love this store. The staff are always really nice and the shelves are always jam packed with great merchandise. I wouldn't say that World Market stores are cheap, but I'm willing to pay a little extra in order to get some hard to find items. The section of the store that I like best is the food section. Yum! I really love World Market! It is a fun place to shop when you are looking for something unique for a gift idea, or for something for your home. It also has a nice international foods selection so it can be fun to try a bunch of things from different countries without having to go to different stores. They often have a variety of sales and if you sign up to be a World Market Explorer, you get additional discounts like $10 off of $30 almost every other week. Here are a few things I go there regularly to buy: Sugar-free Torani syrups (they have way more flavors then the grocery store). A few times a year they have them on sale for $5. Nothing like taking a Tuesday night and walking the isles with the Fam of World Market. There is always something cool and great to find, the prices are more than fair and the staff is always above and beyond with their "hellos" and "can I help yous".
