[Why no zero-stars option?]
Without exaggeration, these guys are the WORST. Beware. They choose to ship using a company that "partners" with USPS for the first leg of the journey -- but not UPS or DHL (common USPS partners); no, they use OSM Worldwide - which you've never heard of, but which is one of the worst-rated and most scathingly reviewed companies on the planet. Tracking history shows that my purchase sat in OSM's hands for 8 days, before they finally sent it on its way to USPS.
World of Books didn't even give my item to OSM until 4 days after I ordered it.
As of today, the 18th, tracking still shows that on the 16th it departed OSM's facility, and was on its way to USPS. But apparently, there's no such parcel, and it's on its way to nowhere. That's because, a few days ago, without any notice of any kind, I did receive a package from these clowns, but with a different USPS tracking number (one I'd never seen before). It was the 6-CD set I ordered . . . but not really. It was a 1990 edition, with A TOTALLY DIFFERENT COVER FROM THE ONE THE SELLER ADVERTISED, AND WHICH I WANTED. The one I wanted (the one shown in their listing) was issued in 2000. Unlike the earlier one, it was packaged in an attractive, lightweight, compact box, with each CD in a paper sleeve (not bulky, ugly and fragile jewel cases). The item description in eBay also states that the record label was "London"; that is, in fact, what's clearly shown on the front of the box illustrated. But the record label of the wrong set delivered to me was DECCA (also clearly shown on the front of THAT box.)
After I presented the evidence that the two sets are significantly different, and I'd not received the one ordered/advertised, the seller tried to get me to accept a different item. I want nothing more to do with this company, which has received 8,000+ negative eBay reviews in the past 12 months. Luckily, they did issue a refund, when I insisted -- but they weren't planning to refund the sales tax (and instead, were going to keep it for themselves, as if it were "free money" they're entitled to pocket.) They said they're "not set up" for that! Just how dense and ignorant -- or pretending to be -- ARE these characters? The law in my state requires merchants to do the obvious and right thing: refund the sales tax when an item is returned or refunded. "Not set up"?? Many merchants allow a very generous time frame in which to return an item . . . and often, that can be long after the state has received the sales tax for the item. (Merchants submit tax payments quarterly.) Responsible, professional merchants -- particularly large companies, of which WOB is one -- have a department or person devoted to dealing with those matters, on an ongoing basis, directly with the tax agency in each state where they do business.
