It's a right turn off route 27 and while the sign says 20 miles, I think it was more like 23 miles of well maintained gravel/dirt roads. My Honda had no problems on these roads. There's no much actually at the site - a marker indicating that this is the highest point in Kansas, a log book where you can sign in, a Little Library lending library and a picnic table. On the way out, you have a choice of exiting towards US 40, back to Kansas 27 or north to I-70. Since we were heading to Denver, we took the I-70 option. After about 20 miles of dirt/gravel roads, the route dropped us at I-70 just a couple of miles from the Colorado border. Definitely a fun side trip - just don't set your expectations too high. AND - how many people can say they've been to the highest point in Kansas - bragging rights.

Kansas. Accessed via a really well maintained dirt road, (better and smoother than some of the Denver roads), we manager 50-60 MPH easily with very little traffic. Home to a great picnic spot and a "Leave One Take One" lending library. Sign your name in the log book that is in the big mailbox, maybe leave a memento. A really nice place to stretch your legs and for photos.

Goodland is a great place to stop and refuel when heading west and is one of the last major stopping points until you reach Limon, Colorado. To find the painting, go one block north of the interchange and turn right on the first main drag. The painting is about 1/2 mile down the street. Great place to stop, stretch and refuel. Doesn't require a long visit -- just long enough to get pictures to prove you were here.

The ambience was relaxed. Fire pit, outdoor tables, inside dining. Our server, Briar, was professional, personable and helpful. There are several gluten free options.
