The ground floor consists of costumes through the ages and some archaeological finds and a studio gallery where there tends to be more contemporary work. Remembering this a museum and art gallery in Worthing not London, it represents the town and it isn't trying to be a cutting edge contemporary gallery. Saying that, the curators do make an effort to source contemporary local artists and makers. The delightful sculpture garden always seems to have quirky, relevant and interesting pieces. The upstairs gallery's tend to be more formal and often houses work owned by the gallery. Recently the museum and gallery staged the Worthing Open, where local artists can submit their work. It was amazing to see a jam packed exhibition representing the town and the surrounding areas talent. Anyway, down to the nitty gritty. Can I take my children there? Yes! During the holidays, children's workshops are run. There are books and a little table on the first floor to keep them amused. I really enjoy taking my little girl there who loves exploring the place. Children's orientated gifts in the gift shop. Not a hush hush type place. On the downside, the museum displays are a little dated and your experience of the gallery will depend on what's on show during your visit. read more
