Wplr used to be our go to for rock that we enjoyed listening to, but on my morning drive in the personal political views of Chaz & AJ (especially AJ) started the day on a negative they just can't seem to grow beyond the boomer old men they've decided to portray over the airwaves we had to stop listening and moved to 104.1 which might be one of the only stations that's not part of the mega conglomerate clear channel so plus one for little guys. read more

Avid listener for years. However, really disgusted on how Chaz was saying disrespectful stuff about Ace Frehley. The guy died ( show some respect) . Even if you didn't care for him ( keep it to yourself ) . Maybe talk about it at a later time. It was too soon to trash Ace like that. Recently spent a few weeks in CT for work purposes and found myself a new favorite station, one of which I have been streaming at home ever since. WPLR is what a classic rock station is, should be and what it use to be around Boston. Long gone are the WBCN's and WAAF's of the world, but in a world this misses local rock stations, this station seems to be just what the doctor ordered. Everything is being chewed up, flipped and spit out by IHeart radio and I don't give a shit about podcasts, so this is what I am looking for in a radio station. It's too bad I live 3 hours away and have to burn some data to listen in the car, but it's certainly worth it. I really love the morning show Chaz and AJ, they have fun guests, local stories and don't seem to have an agenda other than playing classic rock and keeping it lighthearted and fun in general. The 3rd voice Ashley seems like a nice addition to the show, I have no idea how long she's been on there, but she sounds younger and is probably better looking than the other 2 guys on there ;) If you're looking for that classic rock station, or should I say listening of that classic rock station and miss what radio use to be, this is certainly the station for you. read more

While switching through the channels and listening to a few minutes of the "Chaz & AJ Show" I suddenly came to the realization... AJ sounds EXACTLY like Butthead of "Beavis and Butthead" fame. A very long time ago, WPLR was a good station. Mind you, it never quite matched WPLJ or WNEW's majesty in NYC, but those were large market stations during the heyday of FM radio. WPLR did very well for itself in the medium market category with a great array of "deeper cuts" and some disc jockeys who actually knew about the music they played. Around the time I was in college during the late 1980s and early 1990s, I noticed that it was changing a little bit and not for the better. I was hearing the same "classics" too frequently and wondered if someone had erred on a playlist. Little did I know...uh oh...it was the foreshadowing of FM radio's sea change! Before I moved to the west coast, I did the amateur hour with friends a few times and had fun. No complaints. However, I complained bitterly when I moved back here several years later and heard a recurring tape of Mike Lapitino verbally sparring with Joey Kramer of Aerosmith (personally, I wanted Joey to beat the snot out of Lappy). My boyfriend and I wondered, "What happened to the freaking music?!" They were relying more often on gags and sexism. Once in a while, I would be pleasantly surprised by King Crimson or Robin Trower. Then it was another round of the same 40 songs in serious rotation as someone else said. Now I never listen at all. If I try, I am turning the dial within five minutes! It is pure insufferable swill, which is the same description for every other sell-out station in Connecticut. #1 rock station? Yeah, right. #1 rock station for vacant heads and bleeding ears. If they can fire a very astute DJ like Pam Landry instead of renewing her contract after 20 successful years (this happened about 10 years ago), it's not a station for discerning tastes anymore. read more

Stoneman is turning over in his grave! These guys lost their way years ago. Instead of sticking to their classic album rock, they tried to add 'new' music into the rotation. Insipid and talentless modern rock bands who all sound alike. Used to be a kid could get a real rock education listening to plr-with deeper cuts and whole sides,know it all dj's, and real rock and roll. Now it's one long boring playlist after another- Hey Plr-fire the entire marketing dept and let the dj's do the programming!!!!! I am not sure how Yelp draws only haters but WPLR is THE BEST rock station on the air right now in the entire tri state area. They are the kings of medium market radio and frankly the station and its people kick ass. The morning show is groundbreaking, un-offensive and just plain perfect. Those guys with "cool names" as one of the fools here posted, do so much for the local communities and are very well respected. if the idiots that give 1 star YELP ratings here would simply stop tuning in to WPLR we all might be happier. I doubt it,......almost all of the poor reviews seem to come from borderline lunatics who go off on tangents regarding world issue and policy. I grew up listening to this station and it was amazingly good. Now, decades and many miles later, I looked it up to listen online. I didn't even make it past the first page. There were multiple typos. And what is this Girl of the Month crap with multiple photos of some chick with a nose ring trying to look cool and seductive? How is that related to radio? read more

Such a shame....the station was gold for a while, now it's impossible to listen to, I get stuck with it for various reasons from time to time but it is the last preset on my radios. finally, i have reached yelp! was reading an old posting about wplr in the stoneman era, the time i was listening to it on the east end of long island. when rick allison lost his show, the electric brunch i think it was, i became more aware of how bad popular rock music had become, and slowly changed my radio listening habits. the few times i have tuned in since then have been a grave diiappointment, and i sadly had to agree with the dude who said it was the same 200 tunes over & over again. a shame, there was such a huge amount of good music back then few people will ever hear. thats show biz , folks! read more
