I'm not really a pub type of person and don't really enjoy drinking a pint for the sake of it, so its nice to know that i can now jump on my bike and pootle along to Bottle on a sunday lunch for a decent bottle of cider. I say decent as Bottle serve 'thistly cross'. Not only that though they serve my favourites the whisky cask and ginger versions. AND..(.yes this is a big AND), they also have snyders jalapeno pretzels....which quite frankly are the only reason i ever eat pretzels. The place itself is small, but through a good seating plan can easily accommodate up to 30 people and still feel uncrowded. The shop is positioned towards the back and by the looks of it (see picture) has lots to choose from. whilst i don't drink beer myself (only cider), i know it must be a good choice as my husband spends ages deciding and has that look of glee in his eye. Its a really nice little place, with great beer, good seating and really friendly staff. I will be returning....often.

I tried the porter on tap (I know! I drank beer!) and really liked its chocolate BBQ flavour. Bf got super excited about a 10% Thornbridge Jaipur and said it was one of the best things he drank in ages. He also bought a Thornbridge rhubarb to bring home which he also liked (although said he wouldn't need to drink more than one of those!). The prices are pretty high so it's more a treat place (if you want a bargain quality bottle option, head to Bargain Booze in Davenport). I imagine it might get hard to find a seat on weekends (which is great, because it means it's doing well) but midweek had the perfect balance of available seats but most tables taken which gave it a very pleasant buzz.

The shop…read moreitself is not much to look at from the outside, not having similar levels of styling as some local rivals such as Bottle or Heaton Hops, but as the old saying goes "You can't judge a book by its cover" so I strode on in anyway. Inside there are a few tables where you can sit and partake of one of the beers they have on tap, or presumably crack open any one of the numerous bottles they have on the shelves - once you've paid for it, of course. In terms of range, there didn't seem to be too many available on the taps but that wasn't an issue as I was after booze to go. That, though, was a tough decision. There was a good range of beer here. Whilst the other bottle shops in the area tend to have quite a good range of local beers, I can't recall ever seeing them stock some of what I consider the classics and which I "cut my teeth" drinking at uni - Trappist ales like the Rochefort 12 etc. That was a good hit of nostalgia for me, but in the end I went for a couple of cans of Beavertown (Neck Oil and 8 Ball) as well as a FlyingDog IPA and a Weird Beard Excel Spreadsheet Ninja, which at £11 for the four came in at a bargain price. The gent behind the counter who served me was polite and friendly, and also seemed to really know his stuff despite looking as though he'd spent the day both serving patrons and sampling the goods himself. (Though, be honest, if you owned a bottle shop could you resist the odd one or two?) The only downside to The Beer Shop is that it's kinda not really near anything else; it's off the beaten track, as they say. If you're wandering past and fancy a swift pint, then it's definitely worth a pit stop, but I'm not sure I'd set out specifically to visit. Why yes, yes I would! 30 seconds later, I've the immense pleasure of drinking about a third of a pint of a complimentary, and excellent, Dutch Saison. These guys clearly know their stuff. In one corner I overheard two (of course) bearded fellows discussing the distressing dearth of qualified beer bloggers in the UK, only one of which (apparently) has ever undertaken any palate training. Recommendations from staff are always spot-on and I think it's fair to say that Beermoth has categorically the best beer selection in all of Manchester, if not the North West. It's the only place other than Port Street Beer House, for example, that I've ever seen stock (any variety of) Schneider Weisse Tap X. Needless to say, I felt obliged to buy a beer from Beermoth after the freebie, and drinking it next door in the Tib Street Tavern (instead of buying a pint there) was one of the best decisions, if ever so slightly cheeky, that I'd made that evening. I really hope it's already super-dooper-obvious, but I'll state it one more time: the staff at Beermoth are all lovely, helpful and knowledgeable. If you like craft beer at all, go to Beermoth. Do it now (unless it's 10AM and they're not open, that would be silly). Pick their brains (again, not literally, that would be all zombie-like and gross) and buy a beer (or six). You won't regret it.

Penine Real Blonde was drinkable but seemed on the turn. The Fish Finger sandwich with kumala fries (sweet potatoe) made up for the average beer though, very nice. Appreciating the crackling fire and beer garden you'll find a nice blend of loyal regulars, academics and mature students (the kids go to West Street, just round the corner). As a result, the pub quiz is nigh-on impossible! The Red Deer should also be known for a good choice of ales. There are big boards telling you about the guests: the taste, how strong they are, how much they are, etc. It's difficult to criticise the place to be honest, other than to say it's not the easiest to find. I suppose the surroundings could be better, but that would ruin the feeling of discovery you get when you finally find the place.

An award-winning off licence, it prides itself on offering things that are a little out of the ordinary. So you can expect to see a great mix of beers from tiny local breweries, as well as hard-to-find world beers, like New York's Brooklyn Lager and San Francisco's Anchor Steam Beer. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and are always willing to make recommendations. So if you take a trip to this boozy treasure trove, you could end up finding the beer of your dreams! I can't really comment on the range of wines and spirits available I'm all about the beer. But I'm confident that even the fussiest wine lover will be impressed! My only gripe with this place is that it closes far too early! Most days, they seem to shut about 7pm and they're closed all day Sunday. If they stayed open until 8 or 9pm, I'm sure they'd get loads more customers. I know I'd visit a lot more!

Thankfully, and for whatever reason (pressure group one imagines), this never happened and we still have this wonderful menagerie of booze. Not only do they stock a large range of wines (and I haven't yet managed to choose a dodgy wine, unlike what can happen at supermarkets with their constant 50% off deals) but they also sell a fascinating array of beers (majority of which are British Premium) and ciders and malt whiskeys. Always willing to make a suggestion on your behalf (try as I do, I still have an extremely limited knowledge of the vino) they'll work around your budget (which again is usually extremely limited!). Haven't been recommended a wine that's probably best off in the Balsamic vinegar section in Morrisons. From what I can gather, most of the wines are from within the 'old school EU'...which suits me fine. You just can't recreate the romance of a real corked French number can you? I must add that it's blinking cold in there (the interior resembles a Canadian lodge) and the guys who run are usually decked out in Arctic puffer jacketsbut I guess this is to keep the stock at a certain temperatureI should have asked, perhaps the boiler has never been fixed? Well if you can't steal a Withnail & I quote from time to time then the world is a bad place. So in search of said wine I went to Czerwik. What a wonderful emporium. For me combining two of my favourite vices, cheese and wine, is actually a dangerous move because I am a picky customer. However, the expert advice and products firmly delivered. It's an independent family run business that has been established for over 15 years and it shows. There are loads of wines to get your head around, including one of my favourites Cloudy Bay. Don't be afraid to ask as they'll point you in the right direction. If you like beer then that is pretty much covered too. As for the cheese well that also ticks all the boxes. They have a dedicated cheesemonger (yes I know I love that word too, so say it loud and proud) with over 160 farmhouse cheeses kept in prime conditions for that perfect dairy hit. Oh and if you like to get all James Bond baddie then check out the Polish vodkas. I'll have some more of this please, shaken not stirred.

If you're not sure about what to buy, just ask for a taste, its that kind of place that really knows what customer service is about. Its not only cheese though they have a huge wine cellar, extensive beer selection, all your usual deli fare and one of the best Whiskey selections you'll find anywhere. If you live in the Cleckhuddersfax region and you haven't been to Czerwik's, get yourself down there immediately. There's no better collection of delicious things in West Yorkshire, maybe the country, maybe the world.

I don't feel judged for preferring beer and being a wine Luddite. Their beer selection is far more limited being 3 Camden beers on draught and a small selection of bottles but will quench the thirst of most beer drinkers. Sadly this aspect pales in comparison to the other new wine bar over in Didsbury and I do wish they had opted for a wider selection of beer if only to make use of the large number of fantastic local breweries rather than opting for keg beer shipped up from London. The menu consists of light snacks, charcuterie and cheese platters on the whole, with a limited but precisely chosen list of mains. Looks delicious as would be expected by the guys also known for Parlour on Beech Rd; items such as Air Dried Beef & Chilli Bresaola, Rocket, Artichokes & Parmesan. The decor actually looks quite nice and spaced out. The big wooden chairs look more like chairs in a church than made out of pallets. They weren't as heavy and clunky as I'd expected nor did I get any splinters as they are all varnished. As the place was busy we were sat outside. There were four large tables outside with room to add extra chairs to our party of 7. I only managed to have a large glass of Pinot Noir before the cold got to us and we moved on where we could be indoors and get some food. I will definitely visit this place again and try out the food and match it to their extensive wine list.
