It's very close to Banbury…read moreCross (if you want to see a fine lady upon a white horse) and it's easy to walk into the centre from the hotel. The main building is very historic, the bedrooms are in a (not very sympathetic) extension to the back, but once you're in the room, they're comfy and well set out (if you like playing "hunt the kettle"). It has off road parking, which is very useful in that area. It has a nice restaurant, but we weren't very hungry, so we settled down in the squidgy settees to try some bar snacks. The panini were fine, nicely presented, with friendly service, and even better our two dogs could sit in the bar area with us. My only gripe is the state of the windows in the bedroom. I just happened to open them, and was pretty shocked at how grimy the frames were. I've sent an email to the manager, so hopefully they'll sort it. Do check it out if you stay there.

I recently stayed two nights in the Banbury House Hotel and must say was massively underwhelmed…read more The Hotel looks rather grand from the outside but is tired and shabby on the inside. The staff are for the most part disinterested and certainly do not go out of their way to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. On one occasion I stood at the reception counter for close to 5 minutes while 3 staff members fussed over something on the computer screen. I would not have minded so much had they not noticed me, but they did and chose to continue prattling among themselves. The one exception one was a receptionist (ex BA) who was on duty the second day. She was marvellous and could not have been more helpful. So, tired looking hotel with tired looking staff serving tired looking food. All of this I can live with if I have to, but jacking up the prices from £48 to £125 per room per night just because the Grand Prix was on in Silverstone is unforgivable. And what's even worse I was fool enough to pay it! Top Tip: Avoid during Silverstone Grand Prix

The breakfast however was really good as it is in many places in the UK. You can choose various version of eggs(scrambled etc.) which were freshly made for you. Pros: * City Centre Based * Majority of the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. * Rooms are nice, spacious and modern * Usual small TVs have been replaced with decent Large Flat Screen TVs (Although awkwardly placed above the desk) * Food isn't too bad Cons: * Mobile Signal Blackspot - it seems impossible to get a signal in majority of the rooms in the hotel. Which when they don't have phones in the room is pretty frustrating. A small card is left on the desk to call reception if you need anything however with no signal this is pointless. * Cleanliness - I'm not sure if i'm just unlucky but when you practically live in hotels you notice the cleanliness more. I've routinely had to complain about the attention to cleaning. Regularly I find hairs all over the bath/shower as well as marks on the pillow cases. I've also come back to the room after work to find its also not been serviced.

Building - is old. Cute but old. That could work but it seems it doesn't get the TLC it needs and instead just spotty fixes here and there. Difficult to drag a luggage through and very low ceilings. Definitely not accessible for anyone differently abled. Room - dingy looking and small. Size is fine since I was only in my room evenings and early mornings but I felt uncomfortable getting comfortable because the old carpet, upholstered chairs and questionable blanket made me wonder how clean the room was. A/C - doesn't allow you to adjust it at all. Bed - hard and uncomfortable with flat pillows and no sheets. A comforter only and a dingy throw blanket that I wouldn't touch. Amenities- shampoo and body wash with some bar soap is provided but that's it. No water bottles provided. Tea bags and a kettle but when I went to make a cup of tea and poured the milk packets in I ended up pouring in spoiled milk. So no cup of tea for me. There is a fridge so you can fill it up on your own. Bathroom - tub that didn't drain and backed up during first use; was quite gross. The staff was quick to fix it but due to old plumbing it is still quite slow to drain. Mold In the shower on the wall and some questionable stains on the ceiling (which is quite low and I am only 5'3"). The tub walls are high which is a feat for my short legs to get in and out of and the shower is quite narrow. A cold faucet and a hot faucet in the sink - I get that it has old world charm but it's just not practical anymore. Ground floor room (concerning to me since I'm a single female traveler but I made due) and when i came back to my room after a long day out, the window in the room was left wide open by the cleaning staff. Total safety concern at that point. Secondly, bugs had gotten into the room. I had to deal with a few months and crawly things which made their way in through the open window (with no screen). Food - Breakfast starts at 7. Food is very good but it's a late start for those who may be here for work as I am. And the restaurant closes at 10. I arrived at 10 from the airport and was stuck with no food options other than sandwiches which I couldn't eat due to being celiac. The staff was very helpful in helping me to find a take away place that was still open to deliver and gave me a pot of tea while I waited. I did not get to eat any other meal beside breakfast. The buffet is minimal so make time for the hot breakfast if you want something substantial. Two stars for the location and the lovely staff but I wouldn't stay here again. Really wish I had a portable cup of tea right now...

The room was nothing great and the staff wasn't either. One night we returned back late and the lobby door was LOCKED! (Someone is supposed to be available 24/7 in the office.) The staff are very friendly and go the extra mile to please. Being in the heart of Warwick, it is a prime location for sight seeing, or just enjoying the charms of this historic town. All in all, a positive experience. Now for my criticisms...the night staff need help! The door is generally locked around 11pm each night, at which point you are to ring the door bell for assistance (e.g. if you are coming in after a night out at one of Warwick's many eateries or pubs). Unfortunately the night porter is also tasked with cleaning the lounge area. Often times he is unable to hear the bell over the vacuum cleaner. The upshot of this is that you're stuck standing outside waiting for the bell to actually be heard! A minor annoyance, but they might do well to engage a person to handle the late night cleaning so the night porter can focus on tending to the guests.
