Nice, slightly shabby hotel (for a large chain), with beautiful gardens. It's very close to Banbury…read moreCross (if you want to see a fine lady upon a white horse) and it's easy to walk into the centre from the hotel. The main building is very historic, the bedrooms are in a (not very sympathetic) extension to the back, but once you're in the room, they're comfy and well set out (if you like playing "hunt the kettle"). It has off road parking, which is very useful in that area. It has a nice restaurant, but we weren't very hungry, so we settled down in the squidgy settees to try some bar snacks. The panini were fine, nicely presented, with friendly service, and even better our two dogs could sit in the bar area with us. My only gripe is the state of the windows in the bedroom. I just happened to open them, and was pretty shocked at how grimy the frames were. I've sent an email to the manager, so hopefully they'll sort it. Do check it out if you stay there.

They have three rooms, I had the one with a private bathroom (bath, shower etc) across the hall the other two have en-suite showers. This was built as a modern town house, so the rooms are standard bedrooms rather than hotel rooms a classic B&B. Breakfast was around a common big table chatting with the other guests fresh fruit salad with a choice of cereals followed by full english. Very friendly and professional.

Jan, the owner, was the most bubbly, welcoming and hopsitable host you could have asked for - even preparing freshly baked cookies for our arrival. The cooked breakfast in the morning was cooked to order with all the trimmings including homemade preserves, locally sourced meats and freshly prepared fruit. Jan even gave us all a 'resolve' to help with our post-wedding hangovers. Thanks Jan for letting us take over your B&B and for making our stay so memorable!

I recently stayed two nights in the Banbury House Hotel and must say was massively underwhelmed…read more The Hotel looks rather grand from the outside but is tired and shabby on the inside. The staff are for the most part disinterested and certainly do not go out of their way to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. On one occasion I stood at the reception counter for close to 5 minutes while 3 staff members fussed over something on the computer screen. I would not have minded so much had they not noticed me, but they did and chose to continue prattling among themselves. The one exception one was a receptionist (ex BA) who was on duty the second day. She was marvellous and could not have been more helpful. So, tired looking hotel with tired looking staff serving tired looking food. All of this I can live with if I have to, but jacking up the prices from £48 to £125 per room per night just because the Grand Prix was on in Silverstone is unforgivable. And what's even worse I was fool enough to pay it! Top Tip: Avoid during Silverstone Grand Prix

The breakfast however was really good as it is in many places in the UK. You can choose various version of eggs(scrambled etc.) which were freshly made for you. Several juices, cheeses, marmelades etc. as well. I would choose this hotel again on my next trip to Banbury if I would have to.

The service was so personable and friendly--that's what first convinced us to give it a try. Then there was the sweeping view from our table of the rolling hills below. There were so many little special touches to the place. To top it off, the food was amazing! We could tell it was prepared with a lot of care and attention to detail. My husband said it was the best fish and chips he had ever had. The sticky toffee pudding was my favorite--divine!! Definitely recommend!

Continued the meal with confit duck leg and finished off my meal with sticky toffee pudding. Hubby started the prawns starter and finished with the prawns starter. He had the rack of lamb in between. Yes, he liked the prawns so much he got it twice! All in all the food the atmosphere and attentive service make for an awesome dinner experience. Highly recommended!!!
