Plus, so far I have not found that they do not reduce their power output in off hours thus curtailing their station reception to the point it is not receivable. I like the format. They play a wide variety of songs and limit the number of commercial interruptions. I'm not too sure how to label the format other than they are a MIX station and play classic rock and roll songs plus top 40 pop songs from each decade.

This station, which bills itself as "rock alternative" (used to be "Indy's new rock alternative,"…read morebut after being around for over a decade, I think they realized that slogan wasn't really appropriate anymore) seemed awesome when I was in middle school. Angsty, screaming heavy rock with way too much distortion and seriously weak lyrics. I think this stuff is worse than emo, because it's just as whiny but the guys are all under some kind of illusion that they're hardcore. A lot of it is also kind of metal goth-y, ala Rob Zombie, with lots of talk about dead bodies, and pain, blah blah blah. I gave them two stars because occasionally you'll hear some good Nirvana or something (I feel like this ages me), but overall, I'm not a fan. Also, their website has links for things like "X-Girlfriend" and "XXX-Girlfriend." Yuk yuk yuk. And puke.

This is a…read moreChristian radio station, but as far as I can tell, they play only "praise music", which is one sub-genre within the bigger umbrella of Christian or gospel music. In fact, their genre is so narrow, that it all sounds alike to me. It's as if they have only three songs in their playlist. Of course there's more, but it all sounds the same. Not only that, most of the music is amateurish compared to what you normally hear on broadcast radio, even on traditional Christian or gospel stations. The performers are invariably young-sounding (college age or 20-somethings.) This is an ad-free, "user supported" radio network. They get some corporate donations, and the donors are mentioned occasionally, but they are more like acknowledgements than commercials. This is just my opinion, but combine the fact they are ad-free with the amateurish music, and it makes me think they are limited to royalty-free songs by young artists who are just trying to get exposure. Their website, www.klove. com, talks about their ministry being more than just the radio stations, and that seems fine. Kudos to them for their good intentions, and all the good things they do in their ministry. Their heart is in the right place. And God bless the artists who pour their heart and soul into the music. But as far as the quality and listen-ability goes, the music and the programming choices of this station are just not commecial broadcast quality. I'd rather listen to tapes of Sandi Patti, Pat Boone, (Debbie Boone even), and [gasp!] the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. There are at least two other Christian radio stations in the Indianapolis market., including WQME, http://www.yelp.com/biz/wqme-fm-98-7-anderson When I want uplifting music, I rotate between them. The boring repetitive sameness and the amateurish quality make it so I can listen to WKLU for only 1 or 2 songs, and then I have to change stations. Sometimes though, particulary on Sundays they play some very old and sometimes not so great music, and that's why I take one star off. I'm not going to deduct a star for the mistakes that you hear in the broadcasts, because hey, this is a student run radio station and a learning experience, and they shouldn't be dinged for that.

It was only when I got back home and did some research on this station that I discovered it's run by Carmel High School!! Who knew today's high schoolers had such good taste in music? Since then I've heard some Mazzy Star, New Order, a fantastic cover of Joy Division's Shadowplay by the Killers, and many other of my favorites! I'll take one star off because sometimes instead of music, it goes back to what normal high school radio stations talk about- HIGH SCHOOL! Yeah, I know...how could they? This radio station gives me hope about today's youth! Give it a listen!
