Wayne, IN…read moreradio station where I DJ'ed at in the early 70's . 96.3 WXKE isn't actually the same place I worked for because they've been purchased by a different group and now play classic rock. There's a bunch of them that rock formats today like Adult Contemporary music  (AC), Hot AC Lite AC, Modern AC, soft AC, then Oldies - Late 1950s to early 1970s pop music, Alternative/Indie, Active rock, Adult album alternative (or just adult alternative) (AAA or Triple-A), Album rock / album-oriented rock (AOR), Alternative rock, Classic alternative, Classic rock, Lite rock, Mainstream rock, Modern rock, Progressive rock, Psychedelic rock, Soft rock and just plain the rock like Top 40. Back in the good old days we simply refered to radio station formats in simpler terms like being bubblegum for pop music, elevator music for easy listening, etc. But our format was pretty unique because we played rock album cuts only and never played the same song twice within a 48 hour period. Somebody there called it something very different from bubblegum, we called it heroin and potato chips. (Don't ask :-) My time at XKE was pretty brief, mainly because I wasn't cut out for the graveyard shift, but I had fun and that's what radio has always been about for me since my first radio gig in high school. Big shout out to radio geeks everywhere and especially to this one dude who in 1906, Canadian born scientist Reginald Fessenden created the first radio broadcast of voice and music purely for entertainment purposes aired. He transmitted the program from Brant Rock, MA, for the general public to hear, thanks Reggie! Since then radio has allowed for the transmission of music all around the world, bringing different styles like opera and bluegrass to parts of the world that had never even imagined such things. Bottom line: I've got my radio on right now, listening to WCSN or as they're known "Sunny 105, the voice of paradise". What are you listening to?
