I've been wanting to try x fish for so long! While I thought the food was pretty good, especially the nigiri and ramen; the service was not great. The food also came out a little slow. My favorites were the katsuo x fish salmon nigiri, pepper salmon nigiri, and the craft x red ramen. I also liked that the nigiri didn't have too much rice. I wouldn't recommend the rolls though, the one I tried had too much crab salad.

Came back yet again to introduce X fish to our cousins from Canada. They loved the place and they are looking forward to coming back when they visit in the future. Again, service was friendly and efficient. Fish is fresh and favorites are still the salmon and yellowtail.

We usually go to the location in downtown Brea, but we had seen this one and we're curious to try it. They are located off of Beach Boulevard and have a large parking lot shared with another restaurant. During rush-hour, it can be hard to find parking. Just like the other location they have a tablet where you sign up for the waitlist. We came in as an early lunch so we didn't have a long wait. From the outside this place looks nicer and bigger, but once you step in it doesn't feel as big. We got sat on a table next to the bar area. This is a family friendly restaurant just like the other one, but the acoustics seem a little different as it's louder. We decided to try their omakase. Service was slower than the other location and we were just not as impressed with the food flavour. One of the things that I found annoying is that they only have one stall per gender restroom. I went to the woman's restroom and had to wait for somebody to come out. To my surprise, it was one of their male employees coming out of the one stall available for women. At that point it was about three of us waiting to go in. We also felt like it wasn't as clean as the other one. It gave us a feeling that it was a little dirty. When I saw that they got shut down by the health department for cockroach infestation, we weren't too surprised. Thankfully, we did not get sick. Overall with our experience, I would say that the food was okay compared to the other one. The other location is significantly better. Overall, it's good that we tried it, but most likely won't be back to this location.

Some of the worst service I have ever had at this location, and the quality of the sushi is not as good as I remember. Went to the Brea location a few months ago (review is on my page) and had a nice experience. Here, however, all of the servers and the hostess have an attitude problem. Asked them for a different seating because the people next to us were very loud and we were super close together. Our waitress told us that we should have said something earlier. I told her we told our hostess right after she sat us down, but she told us it's her first day and to tell someone else. The food took long to get to us and the quality was not the best. The selection also seemed to be lacking. Overall, very disappointed with the service here and the quality of the sushi. The salmon and Yuzu yellowtail were pretty good though, and the appetizers like the shrimp tempura, were good. The restaurant is located in a plaza that offers plenty of free parking. There is a tablet located right outside the door that you input your party and get on a waitlist for.

All you can eat sushi has not been on my radar because I've been wanting to cut back on my intake, but we had to go to Buena Park and we were literally across the street from X-Fish, so I made an exception to my diet and we gave it a try. I completely understand their ordering system is to control the flow of orders, but I felt it was a little annoying. With the waiting for you to be able to put in orders, I was getting full. The limiting number of items per order was also a nuisance. I had to separate orders just to get my miso soup and tempura appetizers. The menu showed two mussels in the photo so I ordered two which should be two for me and two for my wife. When it came out it was only two. I asked the server about it and told him the picture on the menu shows two pieces so I was expecting 4 total. He said just order again. I quickly came to a conclusion that this place is about quantity and not quality. Everything was mediocre. The salmon skin handroll's tasted like the salmon skin had been sitting for a while. It was dry and stale. The handroll's came out with the seaweed soggy and not crispy. I figured ordering them one at a time, they would come out a bit more fresh. The nigiri cuts were sloppy. The yellowtail didn't look super fresh. It tasted fine, but the cuts are not clean or symmetrical. Higher end sushi restaurants make sure their cuts are properly sliced to show quality of fish. I must say that I've definitely been to AYCE sushi that is much better in quality as compared here at X-Fish. Like I always say. You have to try a place at least once to see if it's all hype or there is some truth to the crowds waiting to get in. I guess it's a one and done for me at X-Fish.

I went to go try this AYCE sushi restaurant as it was recommended on social media. The seating isn't that comfortable but it is a spacious restaurant. To be honest, I think it was average though the fish-rice ratio was the best. The sushi was a little too sweet especially with the rolls. Selection wasn't that extensive either. Presentation of dishes was lackluster and low effort. I did not like that they limit the nigiri to basically 30 pieces per person since that makes it not really AYCE. I did enjoy the tri pepper seared salmon and the butter shrimp nigiri! Service was minimal.

Hands down my FAVORITE AYCE sushi place. We came on a Sunday around noon, for 3 people and only waited like 5 mins. Very cute spot. Our server was great, it wasn't too busy so we got the attention we need. Definitely coming back!!

Quality of food was excellent. Per person cost was very reasonable as well ($41.99). Nigiri's are limited to 10pc per person, per round (3 rounds max, according to the order sheet). For the three of us, we did 2 rounds and was already full. Favorite nigiri's was tri-pepper salmon, salmon, yuzu yellowtail, and bluefin tuna. Came on a Sunday night. Yelp estimated a 100+ minute wait but it ended up only being 10 minutes! Our server was nice. The restaurant is clean & cozy, we had a great experience. Will definitely come back the next time I come to LA.

We ran into traffic and tried to get here before 2PM for their lunch menu. Put our name down on the waitlist at 1:50PM. We did not make it... they don't seat us until 2:10PM even though we were the only ones on the waitlist. Parking was ample. There was 1 girls toilet and 1 boys toilet, quite a wait to use the toilet during rush hour. Place is nice & clean. Service is ok. Water took a while to refill. Had to call a server order several times. You get a sheet of paper to order nigiri/carpaccio, and you order the rest of the food through a QR code on the table. Other foods include appetizers, sushi rolls, hand rolls, ramen/udons, menu was extensive and I felt like we barely made a dent on what we tried. Most of our orders were on the paper order form. We did the signature menu. We tried 2 no rice rolls: Sakura roll & Kiss you roll (better of the two rolls, loved the chili oil kick). The rest of the sushi we got was from the nigiri/carpaccio menu. Sadly, we were hoping to enjoy the carpaccio the most, but it was covered in green onions/sauce. Of the nigiri's, our favorite was the pepper salmon (most favorite), pepper Tuna, buttered pepper ebi, and tuna tartare. The nigiri & rice proportions were fabulous, not overloaded like any other AYCE sushi places. Shrimp and veggie tempuras were delicious, they have a light tempura batter. For each round, there is a limit of 10 nigiri's per person. Better than any San Diego AYCE place!

I usually go to the Brea location but decided to try the original X-FISH Izakaya in Buena Park. We waited about 20 minutes to get seated since it was packed, but the service was still really good. Our waiter and the staff were quick and efficient, just like in Brea. Prices are basically the same at both spots and the place was nice and clean. Happy with it! I'd go back!

    Linh N.

Service was great but tends to be a bit slow. Fish quality has definitely gone down a bit ever since they first open. AYCE is technically not AYCE. They limit you to 10 pieces per person PER round. I prob would not come back

My family and I have been wanting to check out X-FISH Izakaya for awhile and finally found ourselves in the area to stop in. The inside of the restaurant is very modern looking and clean. Service was prompt with requests, but I wouldn't add the label of friendly. We came in on a weekday at dinner time and they were moderately busy. We didn't have a designated server to check in with us and often found ourselves having to flag someone down. However, as noted, all requests were completed in a timely fashion. The food was good; no complaints. We ordered several items but some of my favorites included the Tri Peppered Salmon sushi and Truffle Salmon roll. Truthfully, all of the sushi we ordered was really tasty and fresh. The rice to filling ratio was perfect. Additionally, the flavors were spot on. We also ordered some of the hot food items for our daughter. Everything seemed to be tasty for her as well. Our first visit to X-FISH Izakaya was positive overall. We would definitely dine with them again in the future as there was so much more we wanted to try that our stomachs just didn't have anymore room for.

So my wife and I came back to give this place a shot, as I said I would in my previous review. As expected, when I first came through, something went wrong with their system. This time around, the food came out much quicker and everything was delicious. Overall I like the use of the space. It's nice inside, a little loud. The tables are awful close to one another but it's worth visiting. I'm still not 100% sure what's the difference between the two menus. The waiter never explained it to us and told us to just look on the website so a ding there. Overall a good place to visit if you're in town.

For signature, is there a different price range for kid?

    It's based off of height.

    Do they take reservations?

    No, they don't take reservations.

Can we make a reservation online?

There are no reservations for smaller parties (under 12 I think). The wait is usually 100min+ on weekends, but you can put in your name and go to the Orange bar across the street and wait and have apps/drinks.

How can I go about making a reservation?

You can make your reservation on yelp but you will have to be within location of the restaurant.

Is their rice for sushi vinegared sushi rice?? I have eaten in some sushi restaurants that serve sushi with plain rice

    Yes it is

When is last call to order for a Friday night?

I went on January 2026 and their last call is 1 HOUR before close.

Is Izakaya available for AYCE lunch?

    Yes

    Is there a Yelp waitlist?

No there isn't a Yelp waitlist

Can we bring a bottle of wine?

rw i ty the first major step tyy

Is it walk-ins only or are there reservations?

I think when I asked them a few months ago that reservations are only for non weekend nights, and for parties four or more.

    How much per person?

    $55 per person

What is the difference between signature sushi bar and sushi bar?

We got the Signature Sushi Bar it includes ramen bar; tempura options and other side dishes. I believe the regular sushi bar does not include as much side options.

    Is there a long wait?

Usually. I've been there three times and have had to wait from 25-60 minutes

What is their price for ayce?

It is about $55 to $75 and I believe there is two tier for omasake and AYCE

    Are there any vegetarian options?

    There are a few selections.

Can I have my baby's stroller at the table? If not, what are my options with a 4 month old?

There is a covered outside patio that is pretty roomy.

Was a little confused with the service charge and the tip. We're we suppose to add an additional tip?

No additional tip. It's already included with large groups. We had a group of 6 .

Are all the sides and ramen included with the Alyce?

    Yes, I believe so

    Price per person?

We paid $39.99 per person (weekend and dinner) for the signature AYCE dinner. Monday-Friday lunch is $27.99. Omakase is $55.

I am planning to go with my wife and 2 kids. 1 of the kid is 7 years old and does not enjoy eating the raw foods. Can we order 3 of the AYCE while my son order the ala carte?

When we were there everyone had to order the same AYCE that was seated at the table.

After we graduated, we promised to have a little reunion here as adults when we were old enough to drink. This little reunion happened recently. My little sister, who is 17, knew I was meeting my friends for dinner and asked if she could come. Since I knew we would be drinking, I called the restaurant ahead of time to ask if she could sit with us since she wouldn't be drinking. They said no. If we were drinking, she couldn't be there. I thought it was unfortunate, but I told my sister she couldn't come to dinner with us. But what was really annoying is that after we ordered alcohol, our server didn't card us. I went out of my way to uninvite my sister because they said she couldn't be there, and they didn't even check. I thought it was a dumb rule in the first place, but it was really annoying that they didn't even enforce it after I went out of my way to ask. The pork belly skewers were really good. I can see why we used to come all the time as kids. Smoky and crispy. There's a big super traditional looking grill at the front of the restaurant, so I guess they're super serious about their skewers. The okonomiyaki was good too. We decided to try the rose tteokbokki since it was a new menu item, but we were unimpressed. There were barely any toppings inside. We also got the steamed squid, but I thought it was a bit overcooked. We might've stayed a little longer, but the sight of a cockroach climbing on our table sent a chill down our spines. We told a server that we saw a cockroach, but she just stared at us blankly and walked away without doing anything. After that, we had serious issues about the perceived cleanliness of the restaurant and left immediately.  I'm disappointed. In the end, I didn't get the warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling I was yearning for. I think there were several interactions with the workers that they could have handled better. I cleared my little side quest, so I don't think I have a reason to ever return.

It turned what could have been a simple dinner into a memorable experience from the moment I sat down. I ordered the sashimi plate, and it was absolutely outstanding--fresh, beautifully prepared, and surprisingly well-priced for the quality. What impressed me most was the honesty of the staff. I was considering ordering a larger portion, but they actually talked me out of it because they knew I wouldn't finish it. They were right. That small gesture showed me they cared more about giving me a great experience than squeezing a few extra dollars out of my wallet. That kind of customer service is rare these days. What makes this experience even more memorable is that I had just come from X Fish Izakaya, where I spent nearly an hour waiting to be seated while watching people who arrived after me get seated first. I left feeling frustrated and completely overlooked. Walking into Chubby Sushi was the exact opposite experience. Here, I felt welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of from the moment I walked through the door. As if the food and service weren't enough, on my way out I met a well-known food reviewer and even got the chance to hold a giant tuna head that Chubby Sushi had on display for a photo. It was one of those unexpected moments that made an already great night unforgettable. Sometimes a bad experience leads you exactly where you're supposed to be. I'm genuinely glad X Fish Izakaya dropped the ball because it led me to discover Chubby Sushi. This wasn't just a great meal--it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and one I'll remember for years to come. I'll definitely be back. If you're looking for something fun and unique for a special occasion, I highly recommend the full omakase experience at Akashiro!

It's a Saturday and husband was ready for sushi. I had another place in mind, but they didn't take…read morereservations and we're not about to chance it and wait. So we found this place and it was in the same vicinity and yay, they took reservations. Made reservations same day for a 18:30 seating. Service is impeccable. We were welcomed with hot towels, and this impressed me: when our server asked if we wanted cold or hot water. Love it! We opted for hot, better for digestion :) Our libation: Kubota sake - semi dry, rich, clean Our dishes: Assorted sashimi (16 pcs) - omakase. No soy sauce needed. Chef prepared with delicious flavors in mind. Tiger scallops - served in a what appears to resemble petrified wood, carved into a long boatlike dish. Hokkaido shrimp, cilantro oil, chilaquita (Peruvian onion relish), sweet potato crisp, smoke aji Amarillo (Peruvian yellow chili) Leche de tigre (rich emulsion of limes, Peruvian spices and chilis) - A complexity of flavors that comes together so completely. Eat with spoon. The delicate potato crisp finishes the bite with a little crunch. Udon picante - bell peppers, quinoa and 2 jumbo shrimp. Love the heat level. Comfort food at its best. Salmon parmesan - Nikkei sushi - seared salmon, parmesan bitter, eel sauce , arare, lime. Amazing. O toro sushi - the fattiest cut of tuna. Eat as is. Again chef prepared. No added seasoning required. Parri maki - fried shrimp, cream cheese, seared tuna topped with chimichurri, aji amarillo, chalaquita, ponzu. Food experience was enhanced by their impeccable taste in music. Super chill, soft beats stream the restaurant. With its perfect lighting too sets all the good moods for us. Don't wait for this fine dining experience of Japanese and Peruvian fusion. Note: when they ask if you want soy sauce, say No, thank you. It would be a shame to kill the taste of a beautiful dish with any added sauce. Kampai! Salud!
