Completely agree, i lived In wickersley for over 20 years and the owner has always been the rudest man in the village. God forbid you should question anything whilst in his shop or infact have a personal conversation with your friend without him asking you to be quiet! I can't comment on the quality of food at XL because it the Fawlty Towers of Chip Shops without the humour. I dare you to complain about anything and they will tell you to go elsewwhere and stop wasting their time. Appaling customer service in this day & age. Went to my usual first choice at Ravenfield and excellent , friendly , great value as normal. I hope the Boss at XL reads this so he can understand how he can lose business in recession to a family man with many friends and contacts who will get to hear of my experience. read more

One of the best fish and chips shops in the country, there's always a queue whenever you go and there's a dedicated car park. They don't do burgers, Kebabs and pizzas like some chippy's do, they just do fish and chips (and the usual chip shop stuff-peas, beans, pies, sausage, fishcakes etc) and do it really well. I like good quality food, unfortunately Rotherham doesn't have a very good selection of good quality restaurants or take-aways but XL fisheries is one of the very few exceptions. If you want a curry, the best one is Himalia for a takeaway and next best is Punjab at Whiston, Akbars for a sit down curry and Dynasty for a Chinese, I've tried just about every other takeaway in Rotherham and they vary from mediocre to total garbage. XL fisheries 10/10 for Rotherham and it's in my top 5 best chip shops in the country and I've tried many far and wide, the wetherby whaler in wakefield is very good and pretty similar food but that is a restaurant too. read more

i agree with the last two reviews! we do find the fish and chips lovely and 1 of the best in rotherham however due to the owner been so rude we will not be going back! much better friendlier service at the stag and just as good fish and chips! read more
