UPDATE: Since I was unable to reply directly to their post, I'm sharing my response here. Thank you for your response, but I find it hypocritical. You claim your team is 100% experienced, yet during my appointment, your staff admitted they had never done this type of work before. One even said they would like to practice on a mannequin, but was never able to so why was I being used for practice while paying for a professional service? That felt completely unfair. When I went to pay, I saw an online discount, but the staff denied it and said it was no longer valid, even though it was still being advertised. That felt dishonest. If the extensions were installed properly and tied tightly as you claim, why would I be missing so many strands when I removed them shortly after? They shouldn't have just fallen out if they were secure enough for daily wear. To make matters worse, I heard Jessica, the boss, instructing staff to work on trying to get their bad reviews removed. Avoid Excellence on Bell Blvd I went back exactly as the owner Jesse told me to, and only after that did I notice a pattern in the reviews -- she tells people to "come back in weeks or months," then gives them a hard time when they do. Same thing happened to me. I asked politely, with my daughter present, and we were treated like garbage in front of the store. Now she's claiming she'll "make it right" -- don't believe it. I recently moved to Bayside and went to get a simple haircut. It was by Michael and asked for a trim, layers in the front and rounded back. My layers came out so uneven in the front and the back of my hair was just cut straight across. After I shower, my hair looks like a hot mess and I need to blow dry a while to get it to look decent. I haven't gotten a bad haircut like this probably in 20 years. Very disappointing from a place that has a good reputation. Update: I went back and they fixed the haircut for me. Stars docked because they did not honor the Yelp check-in discount of "20% off any salon service." I came on a Monday morning for a haircut but the ladies (an older one and a younger one) at the front desk said it's only for colored services even though the coupon specifically says ANY salon service. The young lady even knew it was messed up and followed by saying "yes, it should've been specified" and that she'll have someone change the coupon. They should've given it to me. I did not make a fuss over it as I am a professional with a good salary and the price is still overall good... plus I just wasn't in the mood to be argumentative - but nonetheless the more I think about it the more I feel cheated... and that leaves a VERY bad taste in my mouth. I did not have an appointment and it was a walk-in. I do love that they can accommodate even though it's relatively busy for a Monday morning. I was in and out in about 45 minutes. The guy who did my hair was nice and did a decent job. I was a little surprised that there was a bit of a language barrier considering the mixed neighborhood but we got our points across more or less. Would I come back? Honestly I'm not sure. I love the neighborhood and what it has to offer. Can always grab lunch or dinner during the trip out here. Price was treasonable and I was overall happy with the haircut. As soon as I walked in here, I immediately was greeted by strong chemical fumes. Blow dryers running. Ladies getting their hair colored. I wish I did a little bit more research before coming here. I wish I had left. There is absolutely zero ventilation, so it's extremely stuffy inside. I genuinely am concerned for the staff working (and their patrons) here all day, they're breathing the fumes in for an extended period of time on a daily basis. The front desk staff is rude and has no concept of client complaint management. I brought up the concern of the lack of ventilation and she asked me what I want her to do about it as they've been busy all morning. When I arrived, Jessie asked how I wanted my hair, but I was hesitant since it was my first time at the salon. I asked if she could do it, but she reassured me that the stylist was experienced. In the end, FOUR people worked on my hair, & though Jessie said she'd oversee the process, she was nowhere to be found & left during the day. I traveled 3 hours to this salon, expecting a top-tier experience. Instead, I left feeling completely ripped off. I paid almost $500 for a service that was nowhere near what I asked for. I showed reference photos, explained exactly what I wanted, & even confirmed throughout the process--but the result was completely different from what I requested. I already had super blonde hair when I came in the salon, I left the salon with BLACK hair. Where did all my blonde go??? All I wanted was a touch up balayage, & tone it to an ash. To make things worse, when I politely expressed my disappointment, they told me to come in the salon & see what they can do. So I came back the next morning, drove another 3 hours again for them to just wash my hair & "see" if it comes out lighter. I asked if they have clarifying shampoo to which they told me they didn't have. How are you a hair salon with no clarifying shampoo? I was a walk in, I asked specifically to have layers, and I did not want thinning shears used. I do not know his name but he said yes to everything but gave me a wolf cut and used thinning shears which I kept saying I do not want, to please stop. Been going here for 4+ years to do my Balayage. Never had an issue. Recommend tons of people to come here. However the last two times it was annoying. They just throw anyone now to do your color. Last time in September 24' I had to tell the girl to wash my hair bc I saw it getting rubbery. Why she didn't have a timer I don't know. This time, my experience was ridiculous and I will be going to a new salon now. First off, I went for my balayage refresh. For a refresh which requires your roots and toner, with their "20%" off promo the girl at the front desk (not Emily, some other girl who needs better customer service skills) gave me a quote of 350$. I took it. They had someone who barely spoke English do my hair, which is fine but how can you give me what I want when we can't even communicate and someone had to for me? Then, she left the toner on and no timer nothing, I could feel my scalp itch and I could see my hair turn to rubber I told her can you please wash my hair. She washed it. The guy who dried it, I asked him to cut ONE piece of my hair off on the bottom bc it was just sticking out. No haircut. Nothing. ONE CHUNK. (Which they charged me 30$ had I know I'd grab the scissor and do it myself) Then I showed my TikTok that I promoted a video of my hair In September which I sent 6 people to them with, and to honor it I was supposed to get 30$ off. So explain how I paid 393$ with my 20% discount, 30$ off for my TikTok promo for them, and "haircut"" I'm lost. I also asked Jessie, who btw also needs to learn to be more kind to customers and not stand offish and rude, why she charged me 30$ to cut ONE portion of my hair which I can pick up with two fingers... she rudely tells me "ITS A HAIRCUT BC WE CUT IT" So I could have grabbed the scissor and done it myself. Walked in on a recommendation, for a haircut. Everyone was super nice and friendly. Showed the stylist, Lucas, a photo of how I would like my hair cut and he gave me a beautiful cut and blow dry. The initial hair wash by Nico and one also at a later date by Vincent (the manager) was wonderful. This salon is new in Jackson Heights and I'm so happy with the results. The quality of the service and cut has declined significantly. Xcellent was my go to salon for years. They never disappointed however I noticed within the last year the hair cuts are hit or miss. Sometimes they do a great job and others a horrible job. I've been disappointed before but I shrugged it off and delt with it thinking it was a one time thing. Yesterday I went in to get a cut. I had long hair and asked for medium layers with curtain bangs. I showed my stylist a reference photo and he said he could do it. He cuts my hair and I immediately felt off. He didn't do it the way the others did, it was almost haphazard and no time or attention was put into it like previous stylists. But I still just trusted him (plus The customer next to me was so loud and yelling the entire time as I was getting a cut and I was just getting so frustrated I wanted to get out) the guy blew dried my hair before I could see it fully, then continued cutting some more so I didn't realize how bad it really was. When he was finished I was so upset I couldn't really speak up. It wasn't what I wanted at all and he cut my hair shorter than what I had asked. I walked out of there looking horrible and like I aged 10 years. I was kind of in shock and hoped maybe it would look better in the morning. I just nodded and paid. I showered this morning and after my hair dried I was even more mortified. My son even said "omg what did you do to your hair?! It looks so bad!!" I've attached my reference photo, my hair before, and now. I don't even know how I'm going to fix this.. on top of that it cost me $45 and I still tipped (I'm too nice) -_- and I have a wedding to go to in a few weeks! Super frustrating expecting quality and getting this. Store looks very fresh looking with the white and black aesthetics. I would say if you're a female that wants to do something different and unique for a hairstyle or color, this is your place. If you're a male, your best bet is to probably go down the block to the barber. The hair stylist or barber that cut my hair when I went, did an absolutely horrible job. There was no finnese in cutting my hair, I had asked for short on the sides and short on the top so I could style it upwards. The stylist that cut my hair, shaved around my head as if I was getting a buzz cut. He completely cut it wrong and just went around my head with no type of skill or finesse. Definitely won't be coming here for a haircut. But feel free to come here if you're someone who wants to do something colorful and unique for your hair. read more

I've been a long time customer of the Xcellent franchise and this was my 3rd and last time getting my hair colored at the Bayside location. I booked my appointment with Jessie and showed her the color I wanted which was a light ash blonde She put a disclaimer that my hair will probably break and recommended a honey blonde instead but that they'll start the bleaching process first to see how my hair will turn out. After the first round of bleach I decided I didn't want to put my hair through another round to achieve the ash blonde color and gave the green light to a picture Jessie showed me that resembled a honey blonde since she advised it will blend the hair between the newly bleached and my old color more seamlessly. As they started coloring my hair it seemed completely off. At the end I turned out with half of my head a brassy blonde and the bottom an ashy color with a line showing a clear difference of the cut off. I was extremely confused as I thought we agreed to a honey blonde color but at the time I've already spent 5-6 hours at the salon and thought it'll even out after a wash or two. Mind you, the whole time Jessie did not touch my hair once and the entire process was 100% done by an assistant Sophia, so something to keep in mind if you do book with Jessie. After a couple washes it was evident my hair was messed up, triple toned and done with subpar coloring skills. I reached out to the salon expressing how unhappy I was with the color and they advised on purple shampoo. I hear you on the purple shampoo but how can I possibly purple shampoo out this unevenness? The top part of my hair will always be brassier. Currently the roots of my hair resemble a reddish dark brown color, followed by a section of brassy blonde and a section of ashy blonde. It's extremely upsetting that I wasted 6 hours of my time, $460 (cut included) before tips for an extremely amateur color job which now I'll have to fork out double to get corrected and- once I've finally recover from this round of coloring. Horrible customer service and they misquoted prices!! I went yesterday to check the prices and was told that wash, haircut and blow dry is $45 and without wash is $30. I went in today , got the cut and blow dry and when it came to payment they said $45 when they told me $30 yesterday at the front desk without wash. JESSIE was continuously arguing with me proving me wrong that no one can tell you $30 for cut and blow dry. I had no reason to lie for just $15. I'm never going back to this salon where they believe customer is wrong and a liar when that wasn't the case. Please next time if anyone goes to this salon get the price in writing otherwise they will try to charge you more next time you go and will try to prove you wrong on your face. Prior to the pandemic, I would come for the weekday 20% off cut special, which was definitely an added bonus. The prices here (for a haircut) are quite reasonable for New York. Every time I've come in, the place is always packed, with tons of clients getting haircuts, colorings, etc. All of the employees are professional, quick, and do a great job. I am getting married in 2.5 weeks and knew I wanted an updo since I will be getting married next to the beach. However, I have virgin very dark brown, almost black hair. I wanted some highlights or something done to my hair that would make it stand out in an updo so I started looking for a hair salon in either Queens or Long Island. Searching on Yelp I stumbled upon Xcellent Beauty Salon. Messaged via Yelp at the beginning of the week and very quickly got an appointment for Thursday at 10am. If you go on Monday-Thursday, you get a 20% discount. I ended up paying $270 cash ($240 for bayalage and $30 for Olaplex which makes the bleach less harsh on your hair or something like that lol) and that's after the discount. Don't forget to tip! There is metered parking in front but I chose to park in the residential area a few blocks away. It's a little harder to find and can be a little more of a walk, but I didn't want to worry about feeding the meter although I think the staff will help you feed your meter if needed. I walked in, checked in with the front desk lady who was super pleasant and after being seated, Leon asked me what I wanted done. I showed him pictures and explained what I was looking for, got his opinion, he told me how much it would cost and if that worked for me, and then they started working on my hair within 5 minutes. He told me what I wanted would take approximately 4 hours which was fine with me. The whole process actually ended up taking a little under 3.5 hours. The front desk will hang up your jacket for you and there are hooks under the little tables for your purse/bags. Throughout the process you will be offered drinks (coffee, milk tea, etc), chips or even cup of noodles (since hair appointments can be a few hours)! I thought this was super considerate. All the staff there were very pleasant. I ended up getting a bayalage and absolutely LOVE it. I felt like it closely resembled the photo I showed Leon. At first, I couldn't see the highlights well but under the lighting, it showed a lot and looked gorgeous. Mandy was the person that was tending to my hair majority of the time and one other lady helped in the beginning for a few minutes and then later on Leon helped here and there as well. Review is based off my experience with getting a haircut here. I had been looking around the Queens area for a hair salon instead of making the trek back to Brooklyn to visit my usual hair stylist. I came to Xcellent based off a friend's recommendation - she had stated that they were decent for a quick haircut. I made an appointment 2 days in advance, and came on an early Sunday morning. Of note, the parking around this area is terrible, so I'd recommend coming 15-20 minutes before your appointment time to scope out a parking spot. My haircut and experience here were underwhelming. I didn't love the cut, and it seems like some things were lost on the stylist (I forgot his name!). I had specifically requested a straight medium length cut with minimal/no layers, but the stylist gave me super layered hair. It was also quite short, so I was afraid to ask for any changes. I left the salon with a "I'll figure out what to do with this" feeling instead of loving the cut. Haircuts here are also pricier than most Brooklyn salons. Probably won't be visiting again for haircut needs, but may come here if I ever decide to dye my hair. --- Updating this review to 3 stars because the owner was kind enough to reach out regarding my previous experience and offered solutions. Writing a review for my girlfriend who is in tears after coming here for her birthday. She came in with photos of exactly what she wanted, and they really messed it up. The hair stylist didn't say anything, I don't think he spoke english very well. The inspiration pictures she showed clearly has chin length side bangs which is the whole point of the haircut, but he chopped them off way too short. The haircut is ruined and she's left with this weird bowl-cut mullet looking thing that she can't do anything with. It will take months to grow out and fix, but we will try to get it fixed at another salon. She's in tears after this, I feel so bad. I've been going to this salon for two years to cut my hair. And I've gotten hair color service from this salon before. Today I went in for a trim and wash. When I was done I didn't tip the hair cutter because it wasn't the way I usually liked however, I PAID for the service ($45). TIPS ARE NOT MANDATORY but when I went back to get my friend after her color service, the reception desk lady spoke to me and said I didn't give tip. I felt offended that she asked me to pay tip when it's not mandatory!! Next time I will come in with washed hair. And will NOT GIVE tip if I feel I didn't get the exact cut I like!! VERY RUDE OF THEM TO ASK FOR TIP!! They never done this before. Edit: in reply to the owner. You can't recover from a hair cut. Once the hair is cut it will stay cut until it grows again. That is why I didn't bother arguing or making a fuss about it in the store. I understand the concept of working for tips as I used to work in a service setting. I never begged anyone for tips. Unfortunately I have to say that I will never return to the salon again as I had so much respect for Jesse and the work that they do but I recently went to have my hair done and it was completely ruined! I went in at 5:30 and didn't leave until almost 10 pm. Sitting with bleach on my head for three hours! By the time everything was washed and conditioned and I sat in the chair for it to be blown out my hair was all different lengths thinner than ever! The color was silver and white and I was devastated. I left the salon I still paid because I'm a nice person. I was crying I had a panic attack at home and the next day I asked if she could at least tone down the silver in my hair which she immediately did the next day. My hair is the worst that it's ever been in my life and for a woman to walk around like this is traumatizing.. I called Jesse today to get my money back or at least half because I paid over $300 dollars for me to be partially bald! Her response to me was no sorry I can't give you back your money your hair was damaged from before and we didn't do that to you! Repeating No sorry I can't.. over and over.. # 1 if a customer comes in with damaged hair and wants to go lighter a good professional stylist would turn them away! #2 My hair was not anything like it is now. The front of my hair is uneven and I can't even give myself a haircut because I would have a mullet! I was on the verge of tears talking politely to this woman and letting her know that they damaged my hair and they should not have took me in. I've sent so many people to the salon I've been a good customer to them and this is the thanks I get. Anybody that has thin hair I really advise you not to go to the salon because they are money hungry and very hand heavy with the bleach. From the wash to the blowout horrible experience! The women were rough and rude. I always go to Xcellent in Astoria but I had a couple of things I needed to do in bayside and I thought to myself let me save some time and go to the one in bayside. Well Never again! The woman with the light brown hair and blond ends forgot to ask for her name but she was not listening to my simple request of loose waves and she made me look like little house on the prairie curls. I gagged at what my hair looked like I took the brush and blow dryer from her because I couldn't take the rough beating any longer and I was trying to loosen the curls! It's been a year since I got a service done at this salon but it's still bothering me so here goes: I came in either the day before Halloween or the day of Halloween last year. I asked for ash brown hair because I saw a recent color done of this really beautiful dark ashy brown gray from Prettia. But obviously I wanted a professional to do it and not a box dye so I found what appeared to be the closest match and went on my way. I made an appointment and all was well until I saw what color they actually dyed my hair. They bleached the hell out of it and I mean BLEACHED. Like 5 times. At first I hadn't questioned it because I had a dark brown in my hair from before but it had half grown out, so I thought they were just toning it out. No. They gave me silver hair. Like 15 shades above what I wanted. They kept me until closing because they were tending to other clients, but I'd estimate I sat with bleach in my hair for at least 3 hours. I did not want my hair this light and I even said so, pulling up my reference photos again and the gentleman who took care of me said because of the color differences on my phone and the red from the dark brown in my hair the bleaching was necessary. I was pretty miserable when I left but I had just spent 400$ on a hair color I didn't even want, so I'll be damned if I don't wear it out for my money's worth. I ended up going to the location on Northern Boulevard a few days ago to return my hair to its natural color, and they were much more receptive to what color I wanted and gave me exactly what I asked for. My hair texture's still absolutely ruined but at least I can grow it out without it looking gross. I would recommend the location on Northern Boulevard over this one, and will probably continue my patronage over there for an upcoming cut and color I had in mind once my natural hair grows out and I can finally cut all this damage off. Do not trust this place either anymore. The other location they have ruined my hair before my vacation. Gave me choppy layers and thinned out my hair. Also gave me bangs that I never asked for. Make sure if the person cutting your hair understands English and if not get someone to translate because they will end up doing whatever they want. Do not come here for a haircut. read more

Got a perm on hair line to fix my aggressive cowlick, in addition to a richer brown with no bleach. My hair has its full health, and I love the staff and their work. I love Tina for color and perm, she always spends her time with me. We go over what the color is, the process, the health. I only got my hairline permed down cuz I hate volume. Okay I understand some people are having terrible experiences but if you see something you don't like you need to be vocal with your hairdresser. I've been getting my hair done here for about 1 year and the Balayage you see in the photo is from April and its blended so well that after months the color is still vibrant with proper care (they recommended blue shampoo for me. You should ask them for tips). Today I went in for just a haircut and I showed them my reference photo and I think they did really well with giving me what I wanted! Overall I would recommend this place, besides the language barrier they will understand what you want if you bring them enough references. Also their receptionist can help translate for you in case!
