We stopped in because we wanted to try the noodles. We wanted to start with the shumai but they came out at the same time as our meals. It wasn't really a problem because everything was hot and it gave the entree a chance to cool down a bit. Although the menu said the shumai was 4 pieces we actually had 6 and they were soft and had a flavorful dipping sauce. I ordered the Dan Dan noodles and my husband got the twice cooked pork. Both dishes looked and smelled great. The noodles had a wonderful texture and chew. The service was great as well. We got our drinks and food quickly and they waiter was there but not hovering. Very clean and super fast service! The cold dish and cold noodle (liangpi) came out in less than 5 mins after ordering. Everything came out within 10 minutes of ordering! Try the pick 3 side dishes for $14.99, they give you large portions and it's a great way to try different side dishes. We got (seaweed, shredded vinegar potato, and pig ears). All three had great flavors and was perfect to get you ready to eat more. The liangpi or cold noodles are a xi'an classic and the gluten squares soaks up the sauce perfectly. Make sure you add chili oil to really bring out the flavor! Lamb skewers was very fresh but a bit sweet I think the chef may have westernized it a bit to fit the western pallet. The meat on the skewers were well cooked and generous in portion. The biang biang noodles is a must, especially if you like the chewy hand pulled noodles! Very authentic in taste. We also ordered a lamb guabao or lamb stuffed bun but it was eaten so fast no picture was available. 100% get the stuff bun! Over all it was a great experience and I only taken some points off because of how lightly seasoned the liangpi and lamb skewers were. I was craving a heavy seasoned sodium bomb of a meal today so it may have impacted the decision a bit. But the light season makes the meal healthier so it may appeal to others. This last week three of us decided to do take out for the first time from Xian in Naperville. I've heard so much good about it. It would have been better with more Chinese vegetables. These both came with white rice. The egg rolls were bland inside and out. I really like the flavor when they are cooked in peanut oil. Despite living in an area of the northwest suburbs with some strong contenders for excellent Asian food, I was still quite excited to drive out close to an hour to try Xi'an Cuisine and fortunately it delivered! I was hoping for a few things on when trying this spot, which is that the food is authentic, the taste is flavorful, and that the noodles have that bouncy and slurpy texture you expect when made fresh. Fortunately this meal met all my expectations and more. When you order here, you might be a bit overwhelmed at first with unfamiliar options. In hindsight, I now realize that the specialties are all shown at the front of the restaurant, on the walls, and on the TVs as you order. I don't think you can really go wrong with ordering anything, but it would have been nice if the menu itself had some pictures to guide those unfamiliar with the cuisine with some recommendations (especially for those who can't handle a higher spice level). The portion sizes here are very generous considering the fair prices, presentation is good, and you can clearly tell that they lean towards using fresh ingredients like shallots, garlic, cilantro, chilis, etc. instead of leaning of sauces or spices to flavor the food -- which is very evident in the final product. On this trip I tried a variety of items and would gladly eat all of them again. The dry chili chicken was crisp and flavorful without being too salty. I would probably put it in the top 5 versions of this dish that I've had around Chicagoland, a bit better than Lao Sze Chuan's (less oily) and pretty comparable to nearby Mapo's version. The twice cooked pork is also very good though the meat is sliced a bit thinner than what you'd find in other versions of this dish. With that said however, the flavor is excellent and the cabbage is phenomenal, absorbing all the flavors of the meat and flavorings. My party was comprised of heavy meat eaters yet they didn't leave any cabbage remaining. The cumin beef skewers and lamb skewers are made pretty well, not the juiciest preparation that I've had but the meat was quite tender and seasoned well. It's more than enough to satisfy any Chinese BBQ craving you might have. The Dan Dan noodles were prepared to expectation with plenty of minced pork and cucumber with nice elastic noodles. If I had a redo on ordering, I probably would've tried a different noodle just because I wanted it to be intensely savory and this was actually almost a bit sweet with what seemed to be a sesame and peanut sauce. This is not to say that it isn't enjoyable, but there are so many fantastic noodle options here that I should've tried something a bit more adventurous. The soup noodle with beef is also quite good though maybe not what people who enjoy Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup are expecting. The beef is sliced quite thin (though flavorful), the noodles are sliced quite thin and long (like chow fun noodles), and the bone broth can be a bit intense with flavors of the marrow and white pepper. I definitely recommend going for the spicy version if you can handle it though, as the spices add an additional layer of complexity and umami to help you really enjoy the noodles. Overall, delicious and addictive. I can't wait to come back soon and try some more adventurous dishes to really enjoy the full variety of ingredients and flavors that Xi'an Cuisine has to offer -- while recruiting a large group of friends or family so that I can try more options. read more

Xi'an Cuisine is a restaurant that my husband and I had been wanting to try for some time. We went there with a few friends. When we first got there, we noticed that virtually every item on their menu is marked as spicy. They are not joking around. The dried chili chicken was too spicy for me to eat. The rest of the food was very flavorful. We also had the beef noodle soup, lamb skewer, beef skewer, dan dan noodles, and twice cooked pork. This was plenty of food for the four of us. Even though they serve orange chicken and other American-Chinese dishes, you're missing out if you're not checking out the other things on the menu. This place has fresh hand stretched noodles! It also has flatbread with meat inside. Come here for Biang Biang or Dan Dan noodles or the lamb flatbread. The Dan Dan noodles had an interesting nutty sauce to balance out some of the heat, which made for a balanced bowl. Surprisingly, the spicy dishes aren't as spicy as I've had at other places which really allows me to appreciate the nuances of what I'm eating. I really like the 3 cold appetizer sample (bean curd, pig ear and potato are all delicious) and Cumin Lamb Flatbread 孜然羊肉夹馍. This was our first time to Xi'an Cuisine. We tried several things on the menu. Lamb Skewer, Cumin Lamb Flatbread, Biang Biang Noodle and Pork in Garlic Sauce. First, the Lamb Skewer, it had good flavor but it's not very large and we ordered two to try them out. Followed by Cumin Lamb Flatbread (like a Chinese Hamburger), which was very good, the flatbread was freshly made and crunchy outside with reasonable amount of lamb inside; I think it would be great if it were stuffed with meat. Then the Biang Biang Noodles, this is their Chef's Special, the Noodles taste home-made, wide and al dente and it tasted good; the noodle portion was good but could use a little more protein. Finally, Pork in Garlic Sauce, which was our favorite, the flavor and texture were excellent and the portion was large enough to share. They are famous for noodle dishes in Shanxi area of NW China. I ordered the daily special Fish Fillet in Sour Soup. It came with lots of fish and the soup base contained pickled cabbage spice, peppers and glass noodles. It is a little bit salty but with a great kick. I was sweating half way through the big bowl. The flatbread (pancake) was freshly handmade and baked. Tasty! The TV on the wall has a looping video of special house special dishes. It was fun to watch it. A popular Chinatown place has opened up out here. It has a suburban location in Naperville. Xi'an Cuisine hasn't toned the authenticity though. Even though it has Americanized stuff, it still is more authentic than shit like Panda Express. They have a wide variety of noodles and proteins. Check out some pretty authentic tasting Chinese food. It wasn't busy the last time here at lunch. That's a shame. It's one of the Chinese restaurants that has a big menu of teas to choose from. We got a couple of these. It's about $6 each. The best was the Passionfruit Green Tea. As for the food we got one of the vegetarian items. We had the Tofu. It's $12 for a good amount. This has a mild spice. It could use a few more vegetarian items. The choices were all limited. Good idea to complement anything with a tea because they're so good. It's even better than the food, which is saying a lot. Within a month, we made here twice to Xi'an Cuisine which, hopefully, would give you an indicator how much we like this place. I'm happy both of kids loved this place. We started with cold dishes like fried peanuts, sliced spicy and sour potato, and sliced garlic seaweeds. As you can tell, I'm the lucky one who cleaned up potato and seaweeds and kids ate up all peanuts. Now let's talk out a few of kids' favorite items - Flat bread items and Skewers/Kebabs. Mo is a Chinese version of the flat bread, similarly Tortas in Mexico; Naan in Indian or pita in Greek food. All nicely raised but not thick and perfect to get different fillings in those. Xi'an is famous for Muslin's food with lamb or beef on top of chili pepper, cumin and cilantro. When those are fresh made with chopped up meat, they all so delicious. Skewers/Kebabs are similarly great to eat with bread or not. I just really like them with lamb and extra cumin. Kids were really happy with chicken skewers. Another item I loved was the lamb soup. Again, perfect with the plain flat bread. The soup was pretty authentic and a must have during winter days. We tried noodles soups as well which are great but not as unique as the items above. Probably we are already carb loaded with the flat bread. Services were really great. They are pretty attentive and fast. A few of them took time to chat with us and found out how was the food. They are starting some dishes recently. Plan to try those out soon. read more

We ordered chicken fried rice and chicken Mongolian and ended up getting two dinner specials that also included an egg roll. Some of the items that we've tried and enjoyed are the thin potato slices in sour and spicy sauce, cumin lamb flatbread, marinated beef flatbread, veggie flatbread, and dan dan noodles. Everything was packed to the fullest from spices to ingredients. The hand-stretched noodles with beef is too light for my preference but it's an excellent choice for toddlers.
