I published my book with them 3 years ago. Apparently unlike some other reviewers' experiences, I did get some royalties. But the whole process from beginning to end was extremely unpleasant: totally unresponsive, unprofessional behavior, aggressive upselling of services I did not need. The proofreading was particularly bad: even when I pointed out glaring errors (caused by them) they would not fix them. Then, since then, they WILL NOT STOP pestering me to use them again. Texts (which come from different numbers so blocking doesn't work), emails even though I have repeatedly requested an unsubscribe. Yes, they are SCAMMERS who have HIJACKED my books and are refusing to relinquish them even though I parted ways with them over a decade ago. They are continuing to "sell" my books at around a $300 mark. Thats the reason why my books arent selling. I have threatened them with legal action, however, they ignored me. Anyway, stay as far away from this company as humanly possible. Lots of promises that they were unable to deliver, and then if you knew the amount of hassle we went through to get a substandard partial refund, you would be shocked - months and months of pursuing them. If you insist on using them, read every tiny piece of fine print with an attorney present, because they'll nail you on everything and won't even be able to deliver what they promise in the end. Absolute scam artists. Overpriced packages meet terrible service. Once you buy a publishing package they hard sell you things like marketing and book Fair packages that are complete rip offs. Marketing packages like all their packages contain a laundry list of worthless inclusions. Marketing packages do zero marketing where it matters (ie: on Amazon) and there is no disclosure of how much ad spend is included. The book videos are terrible and most have fewer than 25 actual views. When you stop buying their add ons, they drop you like a rock and you have to fight to even get your published book finished. Xlibris are part of a group all owned by the same US company, so all equally terrible and almost predatory in their actions. For thousands less you can self publish without the rip off. Also, they own your book, you don't. Read the small print. read more

I published my first book "Grandpa the Weatherman" with Xlibris in 2009. Tried them again January 4, 2024 only to advise verbal and email January 18, 2024 that I needed to cancel the contract had an unexptected major issue come up and needed to cancel with refund. Mary Flores tried to strong arm me into holding till I could "financially move forward" I was hestitant but agreed. Overnight I had no piece so send emails again stating I wanted complete cancel. Refund and Do Not continue to charge my card. As of today March 16, 2024 my card had been charged 2 more times for $991 each time. I now have 3 disputes against them. I cancelled my credit card and will take them to small claims court for full refund plus damages if this isn't settled by May 2024. DO NOT USE THEM! Must have changed hands sind 2009. read more

The books are professionally done, the covers are attractive, and the inner content uses high quality printing materials (whether it is black and white or color print packages). I have had only good dealings with the staff during the whole process of publishing my book, and I am impressed by their professional work. They make the publishing process understandable and pretty easy to follow, and if there is an issue with the book itself they let me know in a prompt manner. Xlibris and Author Solutions is a predatory self publishing company. I signed up for their basic package, and from the moment i signed up, i started receiving 3-4 sales calls a week, from Alfred(my publishing contact) to upgrade my package. I told him several I did not have the money right now and he said he understood, but never relented with the sales calls. I felt harassed. Because Xlibris gave me the impression that they were only after my money, I decided to cancel my contract with them, within my 90 days so as to get a full refund, and it has been like pulling teeth to get a response from them. They wont give me a direct number to the 'refund department. I have to go through Alfred, my publishing contact. After a week of dragging his feet, I called him and he told he would submit the refund request when he had time. Mind you at this point, writing this review right now, there are only 6 days left before my account hits the 90 day mark. it appears to me that they are trying to draw out the process til after my 90 day contract clause so they don't have to refund me. They owe me over $700. It looks like I will have to pursue legal action to get my money back from them. DO NOT self publish through Xlibris! All they want is your money. And they will harass you with sales calls from the moment you sign up. And good luck getting your money back. They are a horrible and shady company. read more

They are good at making money and signing up for publishing services and marketing services.Once you are done with launching your book...thats when they start showing their true colors.... As long as you are signing up publishing and marketing services they are happy and will treat you very nicely but the moment you decide not to sign in or out for any reason thats when they will treat you rudely coz they are loosing money not clients or authors. They are more into making money by suggesting their most expensive packages and less in providing genuine assistance to first time authors by offering cost effective packages Unlimited calls, Emails, Voice mails from an author doesn't bother them much coz they have enough clients for making money but the one who does experience all that would never think about hiring their services again.... Though my issue was resolved after tonnes of follow ups and reaching out to highest authority but not everyone gets same experience of refund so be careful before spending your hard earned money. My experience with xlibris was at first okay. However the so called publishing consultant was constantly ringing me , sometimes every ten minutes. I felt stalked by him. I found out they take money out of your bank account , it was like they were stealing. They were pressuring me to upgrade every fortnight. They are very dishonest, I believe they were putting my money into their own pockets. They created a web page for on book I wrote and put a fake blog. The so called book launches never happened. I found it odd that I had to pay a media release and interview which never happened. I discovered they were robbing when I checked my bank account. They had cleaned it out. However I had help to stop them . I blocked them from accessing my bank account. I asked my bank to charge back . They made out that so called goods and services that were not provided were provided. Four years ago I looked into getting a book published, and the rep at Xlibris was really helpful... at first. As soon as I realized I didn't have the money, it became increasingly apparent that I wouldn't get rid of them easily. I was straight up with them and told them the cost was too high for me, thanks anyways. Now, FOUR YEARS LATER, I still get emails and calls at all hours of the day and night asking me if I'm ready to publish my book now. The first few times I would answer with a polite "no thank you, I'm not longer interested" and "please remove me from your call/email list" to no avail. I was blind to work with them as an inspiring author. Sid Wilson called me at 8am and he asked me about my book and my inspirations, he was telling me about packages for 15 mins long and transfer me to receptionist about my credit card number. They kept harrassing me and calling me around bad times and I said sure, as soon when I check my account, they stole over 2,000 dollars worth off of my checking account. I email Sid Wilson and told him "Shame on you for taking advantage on inspiring writers", I have to close my account until I'm getting a refund, refunds weren't happening. Publishing my book with Xlibris has been one of the worst experiences of my life. Every step of the way was assigned to a different person about 14 in all. They sent me forms to sign in read only format, so I had to go to ups and get them signed and returned, added expenses every time. They put the book out for sale before sending me a final draft to review. They changed the cover artwork completely and omitted the illustrators names. I had sent a complete book, cover, title page, dedication and all illustrations with the manuscript. They said they couldn't put the words on the same page as the illustrations, even though every other publisher does it. The promotional package came out weeks after the book was on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Now it's a fight to try to get paid the royalties I've earned. Considered this publisher but their fees included options other publishers offer automatically instead of as a tiered package. Every book I looked up that they published didn't even have a sales rank because they aren't selling. Their marketing was extremely expensive. They hound you. It felt like I was dealing with a sales company and that they were just after my money. It did not feel like I was publishing a book. While researching, I learned Xlibris is a known as a vanity publisher which would make it harder to get my book into physical bookstores. Every website I went to said to avoid them. I went with newbookauthors.com, which was recommended by a number of bloggers and publishing websites. One thing I can say, is the covers look good. I had my first two books published with XLibris, even though nearly zero marketing was involved. I never knew WHERE the reps were calling from. I doubt its in the USA. I had one nice early rep, first book. She's long gone, now. After the second book came out, I started getting calls again from this one guy, who was extremely rude on occasion! Hung up on me once. Next time, apologized but did it again. I demanded a different representative! "Specials" that were running out that day, etc. And they seem to think authors are made of money, too- everything decent, marketing-wise, is $2000+. Back in 2008 I published a book with Xlibris. They told me how great their campaigns were and how successful Authors were in using their services. They sounded enthusiastic so being green behind the ears, I bit, and hard! Over $13,000.00 later they still have not sold one single book. Get this, I paid for a million emails to go out twice to a targeted market. How could they possibly find a targeted market for1,000,000 people who were interested in poetry. NOT ONE SINGLE BUYER, or if they did, they certainly didn't share it with me, yet I find my books being sold on Ebay. Go figure! I can't imagine how companies will destroy a new author's possibility of exposure and destroy their dreams.
