I purchased my wedding dress around August of 2017 at a Size 8, by the time it was alterations time (April 2018)- the dress shop quoted me $200+ to have the dress taken in (since I lost about two dress sizes since I purchased). I also wanted to add beading to my dress and they quoted me a ridiculous amount - it was over $100 to have it sewn onto my dress. I went to Xuan to have her take in my dress, add the beading details, and bustle my dress for an incredibly better pricing ! I dropped off my dress beginning of April to ensure that I gave her enough time and not rush her, I went back the first time to try on and I actually lost more weight, so she took it in some more. I called in advance to get a Chinese dress (qi pao) altered for an upcoming wedding reception. The dress is made of nice, silky material. I had brought it in to another tailoring business that said they couldn't do it, so I wanted to call in advance. I drove a little more than 10 miles to bring the dress to Xuan when the person on the phone said it would be no problem. The day I came in Xuan wasn't there, but two men helped size me and pin/measure the dress. It looked like only two hems would be needed so I was quoted for $18. A week later, I came to pick up the dress and Xuan was busy with two other customers, so I waited on the couch. She did not greet me and continued to help measure her customer. She then snapped her finger and said "hellooo" as I realized she was talking to me and wanted to grab my receipt. I was immediately turned off by this and instantly remembered the reviews saying how rude she is. She ran back to pick up my dress and hung it up. She said, "You want to try this on? Well I don't have room for you." Again, so off-putting. I told her I would wait until she was done since I didn't want to drive back in case the size wasn't right. She seemed annoyed that I wouldn't just pick it up and go. After I was able to get into a dressing room, I tried on the dress and it was a pretty good fit. But I noticed there were some white marks on it. When I went out to ask her how to clean these, she started saying she couldn't do it for me. Again, in a very rude manner, saying to get those off, the dress needs to be dry cleaned and that isn't included in the tailoring. She then says, "I'm already giving you a low price of $18. I'm not sure why he quoted you for that price. Maybe because he thought you were pretty." Referring to the young man who helped me at the drop off. I'm not sure if she thought I would be flattered. But it felt like the exact opposite. A backhanded compliment to ensure me that I was getting a good deal. I just wanted to get out of there. read more

I recently ordered a nice sleeveless dress from online. When I received it, the print and fabric were lovely but it needed to be pulled up at the straps as it fell way too low at the chest and could not even be deemed wearable with a peekaboo bralette or bandeau. So my Yelp hunt for a reputable place that did alterations ensued. I was looking for quality service that wouldn't nickle and dime me. I dropped into Xuan's last week and met Spring, who is really chatty and funny. She had me try on my dress, put pins into the areas she would take up and gave me an estimated cost and time I could pick it up. I was out of there in 10 minutes! I went back a few days later to pick up the dress. As promised, it was ready on time. The new stitching was so neat and precise, I initially thought that nothing had been done. I'm a U.S. Army veteran and currently work in the first responder industry. To hear the owner, a kind and friendly Asian lady named Spring, tell me that she doesn't charge as much as she could for soldiers or other law enforcement personnel because she appreciates what we do, this glowing review is the least I can do for wonderful people like Spring. Xuan Alterations is located in the Barron's shopping location next to a lacrosse store and across from a Mexican food place. You can drop off whatever you need Spring to work on and eat at a variety of international flavored restaurants. Xuan's is a humble looking place stuffed with an array of clothes hanging on racks, which shows that many people think favorably of Spring's work and how she treats her customers. As you enter the store, Spring greets you happily and with a very warm smile. When I first met her, I quickly could tell that she was good people. I ventured into Xuan's because my ballistic vest had a Velcro piece that was about to come off. After I dropped it off, I wondered how much she was going to charge me. I honestly was willing to pay whatever she told me because I needed to have the vest by Monday. To show her sense of humor, I asked her after handing her my vest if I needed a receipt to pick it up the next day, she responded, "Who else will be picking up this type of vest besides you?" When I returned the next day, Spring cheerfully brought out my vest on a hanger and handed it to me. Thinking that I was going to pay at least $10, I asked how much and she generously said $5. $5 for double stitching and quality work. WTH (What the heezy)!!! Spring's customer service alone would warrant a return visit, but combine that with great workmanship and reasonable prices, means that Xuan's will have a lifetime customer. Trust me when I say that if you need anything requiring sewing or alterations, Spring will take care of you. Very satisfied customer. You will be too. read more

I am so frustrated with my experience at Xuan; I will never go back, and would not recommend them to anyone. When I dropped off my dress to be hemmed and taken in a bit on each side seam, the guy who helped me could not tell me a price. He just said "I don't know." I thought it wasn't that big of a deal, as it was an easy job. That was a big mistake! When I went to pick up my dress today, there was a woman there and she said the cost was $65! More than the dress cost! I was literally shocked. I questioned the price, but she wouldn't budge. I know all businesses are now inflating their prices and jumping on the "Covid" bandwagon, but I thought this was ridiculous! Will never go back. read more

On the date promised for pick up, I called to see if my item.was ready. Employee was very rude- and continued to insist that I was picking up an item that was not mine. I advised her of the correct item and she stated " it's ready" to which I said "great, I can come pick it up now?". This apparently angered her for some reason as she then yelled at me on the phone and hung up. When I went to pick up the item it was in fact not ready, and I sat and waiting 30 minutes for it to be completed, as I don't believe they started working on it until I arrived. I had paid extra to have the item done on the promised turn around time, and felt it was not worth it at all given the ordeal. read more

Last year, Xuan fixed a suit for my son for prom. His suit turned out really nicely and was completed in a timely manner. Just recently, my sister and i dropped off dresses for a wedding. Mine needed to be hemmed, and I thought the zipper was broken. When I can to pick up my dress, she fixed the zipper situation and at the shop, the length looked perfect. I brought it home to try on with my shoes and realized it was still a bit long. Xuan had no problem fixing it and told me to bring it back to her. My sister had other requests besides hemming. With the excess material. She wanted to have a shawl made to cover up her arms. Xuan found a way to make it happen. She also drycleaned a traditional and delicate formal top. I was nervous bringing it to just any drycleaner. I'm glad I brought it to Xuan. She charges very reasonably for her quality work.
