Highly recommend PBCH! As someone who loves going fitness boutique classes, this one is hands down…read morethe most welcoming while ensuring you get an excellent workout. Not to mention, it's great for all fitness levels. The instructors suggest modifications throughout class to meet the needs of all clients. The classes never get easier but you get stronger (and become addicted so you have to come back all the time). Another aspect that sets PBCH aside are their virtual classes. Several live classes are offered throughout the day. If a client misses a class, they have access to hundreds of prerecorded classes. Times are crazy right now but PBCH is an excellent way to distract yourself for 50 minutes while you lift, tone and burn!

When I called with questions, Liz, the owner was incredibly helpful, after speaking with her for just a few minutes I could tell I would really like this studio. I was so pumped that I found this studio I signed up for a class immediately and had a really great workout with Corinne. Barre workouts are one of the most effective/quickest ways to tone and gain strength, I have tried several styles, and have always gone back to the Pure Barre "method." If you are looking for a studio in the Mt Airy, Chestnut Hill, Jenkintown, etc. location, this is the barre studio for you. Really looking forward to my next class!

There is also plenty of street parking if you are worried about where to go. When you first enter it may feel like you are walking into the middle of the spin class but you are not. (I totally did for a second!) Just head downstairs to the reception and they will check you in. They have little inspirational quotes in the space and it has a great cozy feel. This was my first barre class ever and it was perfect for starters. Fun class with great music! There was only 2 of us and the instructor so it felt like a private session. It's a great workout and I'm sure tomorrow I will be feeling sore. Thanks for a great class, I will definitely be back!

She has a talent for staffing as the entire fitness staff is engaged before, during and after each class, with no monkeying around. These instructors mean business. I am a motivated gym and running rat, but these folks make my other workouts seem subpar. The space is super clean with a great warm atmosphere. My wife loves the Barre classes. They partner with a local farmer's market in making organic juices. I haven't had one, but they look great and seem to fly off the shelf. We always leave feeling like we are part of the family(and beat up from the workout!). Can't say enough about the great energy and Alli's experience regarding fitness and health knowledge. We wish Chestnut Hill Cycle Fitness much success!

I started out taking Johns Tuesday and Thursday class offered at 11:30 am. After 4 weeks I felt the difference in the way my body moved, it was more flexible and there is a calmness that I now experience. Johns choice of music, his readings and yoga practices has made a tremendous positive difference in my life. Johns' yoga class is the best, I recommend this class to family and friends. The pool set-up in Bala is unique in that it is a therapy pool, it is heated to 90-92 degrees…read more Therefore, only passive types of aquatic exercise should be used. The management of Bala doesn't know what they are doing when it comes to their pools. They are doing Aqua Zumba and swimming in a hot pool, both of which are taboo for health reasons. They have a deep water pool which is also not being used for what reason? The person doing the hiring also knows nothing about aquatics, and she discriminates in hiring. Which is why their aquatics is sub-par. I have offered to teach an Ai Chi class there, which is an international beloved aqua version similar to the goals of Tai Chi. It was invented by a Japanese aquatic therapist, done to New Age music. It is perfectly suited to a warm water pool, but management refuses to even look at it, even though I volunteered to teach a sample class. This kind of ignorance leads me to believe that AFC Bala is closed minded and not considering what is best for their clientele. Members who are coming out of physical therapy would find this class absolutely perfect for their needs, but AFC really doesn't care!

They have all old cracked yoga mats, a mix of lights that are flickering or no glass covering. There is only one stair climbing machine that is very old. A number of pieces of equipment had no signs or the adhesive left from where the sign once lived. I wanted to like this gym but yesh, you're going to charge me $70 for this? (Or whatever it was bc there was no document with the prices, it was all verbal.) High price and a shit box, not worth it. They really need to upgrade equipment or cut prices.

There always seems to be a leak somewhere in the ceiling, there's always a TV, stationary bike, or treadmill on the fritz; and ever since opening the Pole Dancing studio (brilliant idea by the way) downstairs, which always seems empty, all of the equipment has been crammed onto one tiny floor. I'm basically paying (alot I may add) for convenience. I love the fact that I can walk to the gym and not hassle with the stress of parking and traffic. Some more positives: they have an amazing personal trainer on staff. Although working out with him felt like an hour long torture session, I was pleased to see that after a few months I could finally do more than a few girlie push ups. I can't recommend the personal trainer here enough. Additionally, although Sweat is filled with young Manayunk peeps, it somehow avoids feeling like a meat market (surprisingly so). So although I feel like I'm paying close to a fortune to work out here, perhaps Sweat isn't so bad..

The classes are more boot camp style than crossfit. Pamela, the owner, develops a daily workout that each of the Urban Athlete classes does the same that day. Each class includes a 10 minute warm up, 5 minutes of instruction, followed by 30-35 minutes of work. We use a lot of hand weights, kettle bells, and occasionally barbells. There are also plenty of body weight exercise like burpees, pushups, pull ups, and planks. The instructors are my favorite part. They show us how to do each exercise, cheer us on, and give pointers to help your form. Class sizes typically range from 5-12 people. The workouts are for most fitness levels and ages, but not all, as they are hard and meant to push you. The members feed off each other for motivation. If you have serious physical limitations, personal training sessions might be a better way to start.
