My boyfriend is from nearby Grandview, and by nearby I mean nearly five miles... however, that five…read moremiles has nothing but a Walmart distribution center and a ton of manure. Sunnyside emanates a simple charm that just doesn't do it for me. I get stared at. You'd think it's for the pink hair, but usually it's because my half-Mexican boyfriend and I are in Fiesta Foods and I'm the only white girl in the [always crowded] building... but I don't hold that against them, because they make delicious tortillas in house. I digress. The nicest building in this city is the relatively newly remodeled McDonald's. You can tell, as Heather said, there are a ton of teens with their Hondas hanging out in the parking lot. Thankfully said parking lot is well lit. All extra money in Sunnyside goes to the pimping out of cars, not houses. So as you look through residential areas, you'll often be depressed by how a brand new Hummer is sitting outside what looks to be a shack -- at least I am. There are a couple kitschy cute restaurants around -- I'm a fan of the Burger Ranch, for example. But for the most part, Sunnyside is a testament to why I love living in a real city -- we have things to do. A weekend visiting the bf's parents often results in us driving ridiculous distances to go to strip malls of sadness as our only form of entertainment. Pros: They have an A&W and they have a plus sized store that I love [CandiGurlz] that doesn't try to dress us bigger girls up like grandmas. However... many of the girls my age in Sunnyside already ARE grandmas, so perhaps there will have to be CandiGramz added on some day. Cons: Bad cell phone reception for just about everybody, too much time spent in Sunnyside can send you into a spiral of depression, and the speed limit on major roads maxes out at 30... which is nowhere near fast enough to get you out of Sunnyside.

I feel like I'm giving away a neighborhood secret here - the line at this post office? Really…read moremoves! They often have three people working the retail counter. It doesn't look like much from the outside but these guys have it far more together than other area post offices. The parking situation is pretty dire on busy days - it's a small lot on the side of the building or residential street parking. Don't even bother trying to come on a Proctor Farmer's Market day. Otherwise, it's not too bad. Inside, it's clear that this post office hasn't seen any real work (and maybe cleaning) since the 70s sometime. That's okay, at least it doesn't smell of cigarette smoke like other post offices I can think of. The space is small and a little cramped but flows well for such a small space. There are four windows for retail transactions and they usually have three of them going. The employees have some of the standard surliness of postal employees but a few have a sense of humor - what a nice thing to run into, actual human postal workers! Things I ship from this post office go just as quickly as they do from Pine Street, A Street, or any of the other local post offices. Funny thing, though, they seem to arrive at their destinations in better shape. Don't all flood the post office at once, now, I have all of these packages to mail.

Just love Mary in Prosser. Always so kind and courteous. The staff in general are very helpful.read more

So I don't live here now, but I did graduate from PHS many moons ago and I vacation here…read moretraditionally every summer as my family still lives in this pretty little gem of a town. I currently work for City government and I know how stressful dealing with the public can be. This summer noticed a few fire hydrants in town that were painted with paw prints on them. I stopped to photograph one for a firefighter who collects hydrant photos and noticed they had ID numbers hand written on them. I thought how fun would it be to find the firefighter's badge number on a hydrant and photograph that for him. I began driving around looking for it which quickly became too time consuming. I stopped into City Hall with my strange request and story, attempting to locate hydrant #158. The ladies at the front were so very friendly dealing with me, and quickly difused an irate water citizen as well. They were unable to locate the hydrant and called a man named Brian in their public works division who they put on the phone with me. My story peaked his interest, he took my cell number down, and sure enough two days later after fit time in his day to day duties, he called me back. He'd discovered the original hydrant #158 was on Wamba Road, and they'd since been renumbering them with a metal tag, and that particular hydrant had been moved directly across the street from Les Schwab on the main drag into town. He wasn't sure if it still had the original stenciled ID on it, but said to call him back if not as he wasn't afraid to use his Sharpie! :) I commend you Prosser officials for having such quality personnel who go above and beyond for your tourists! Kudos...
