However, despite the questionable location Farm have chosen, this place is fantastic. Being next to Bill's is a big gamble, but I would certainly be tempted to come here over their more illustrious neighbour. Selling a variety of locally sourced goods, including roast meat sandwiches and fresh coffee, roasted in nearby Hove. I hope Farm does succeed in staying in business, because they really do offer a fantastically modern and cosmopolitan, organic meal.

At least in Brighton, where there seems to be endless money to be spent in trendy little food establishments. The latest: Farm. As the name suggests, Farm is going for a rustic country bumpkin image. They use local and organic produce, and locally made bread and they have a seasonal menu, meaning their dishes change according to which vegetables are in season. The décor reflects this ethos- it feels homey and earthy, if a little contrived- but in fairness it would be hard to create a totally authentic farm café in the middle of Brighton! I think they've done quite well- the sandwiches are really fresh and delicious and the bread is really nice. They have soups and other winter warmers too. Every time I've walked past, it has been packed. Perhaps this will be the café to give nearby Bill's a run for their money? Farm may not be quite as high on the cool barometer, but their food is up there!

The fries looked average but turned out to be super tasty. We went at an odd time of day (maybe around 15:00?) and there was some confusion about whether or not they were serving food - so maybe check this before you travel, or just get there at sensible eating times. The drinks were good (good selection) - I had a strawberry milkshake, the food was good, the service was good, and they gave us Jelly Belly beans with our bill. Smashed it. We will be back.

The space is airy, and definitely trying to be a Brooklyn all-day brunch spot. Fortunately we were served quickly (after choosing our own table) and settled on grilled cheese with a cup of soup (spicy tomato today), and an open sandwich topped with creamy sautéed mushrooms. These came swiftly and beat both our expectations - indeed the mushroom dish would not have been out of place at somewhere like Caravan in London. Food and a drink came in under £20 together (although a portion of fries is rather wanting in size for the £2.95 price tag).

This cafe isn't my favourite in the area, as it lacks a certain hustle and bustle (see Red Roaster…read morefor that). But the manager/owner is really friendly and the food well presented. My boyfriend was disappointed with only one sausage and one rasher of bacon on his fry up, but I on the other hand found it refreshing to eat a fry up prettily presented and not dripping in grease. The prices aren't dirt cheap - you're looking at 6 quid for a fry up, plus a steep charge for extra items - this place offers a more civilised brekkie (see Gossip Cafe for the cheap and cheerful). I must pop in there again soon actually as last year there were free Quality Street's at the counter - always a welcome touch! I'm a fan of the tea too - okay there aren't a bijillion varieties and there isn't a tea leaf in sight, but it's served in a massive mug, builder style, just how I have it at home! The decor is cosy, with a range of sofas/tables/garden seating, and it's a nice place for a lazy sunday morning - all in all, well worth a visit (check out the specials too as there're occasionally discounts on the breakfasts).

I went in for a cup of tea yesterday right when the sleet/rain deal started, and was instantly warmed by the 50s diner feel of the café (and the tea.) I was tempted (quite intensely - the plate was held right up to my face) by some apple cake with clotted cream for only a pound, but stuck with the tea. (I'm anticipating a wealth of Christmas sweets in the next few days.) The café offers sandwiches, soups, pastas and full breakfasts for quite low prices. The sandwiches started at £2.95, for instance. The quaint Specials board and chatty demeanour of the servers added to the diner feel. I also noticed an advertisement for a tarot card reader - she comes to The Street every Wednesday from 10am - 2pm. That might be interesting .... She's from the Psychic Network! Famous for its lobster Englishes is pricey but you get what you pay for. When dining with a large party we were given two free aperitifs each which certainly softened the blow. The Scallops St Jacques are absolutely fantastic.

I've probably eaten in here about 30 times over the past couple of years and the standard of the food is consistently good! My favourites are the Welsh rarebit which comes with an egg on top, great for veggies! The scrambled egg on toast, jacket potatoes, toasties, full English are all good choices too whether you are coming here for breakfast, a late brunch or lunch. Fresh orange juice is squeezed in front of you and is a good choice too. Friendly chef and waitress and a real home from home kinda feel. You can't go wrong with an all day breakfast place for those more delicate feeling weekends!

It has a good mix of old rustic styled furniture and contemporary decor. They have a really good, really reasonable menu available with some very interesting choices. My favourite is the roast beef yorkshire wrap served with a nice jug of dripping gravy. There's plenty of real ales on tap and some nice seating outside for you to watch the world drift by.

In the late afternoons and early evenings, its the same but with the tea-cups and mugs replaced by glasses of wine and pints of beer. I've heard good reviews of the locally sourced food but must admit, I only ever pop in here to meet friends or have a cheeky drink on the way to somewhere else. The staff are warm and friendly, the atmosphere is inviting and homely and they usually have cool tunes playing too. Tuesday evenings, there's live jazz, Wednesdays its 'gypsy jazz', Thursdays its soul and funk deejays and Sundays its acoustic music with local guitarists and singer-songwriters. If any of them can play a Miles Davis or Art Blakey tune, I'll be reserving a table at the front!

I only wish we lived nearer as we certainly would make regular visits. I will keep it in mind next time we are down the area.
