The actual classes are amazing!!! Master Gus is SUCH a great teacher, and he demands respect in the nicest way. I even feel the need to respect him as we enter, but again, in a great way. He creates the environment of fun but also teaches the youngest ones (my son is 5), that you need to listen to be successful, you control your body, it doesn't control you, work hard, and you can do hard things. My son really loves it and I can see the growth. He already can count to 10 in Korean, say thank you, and does things I've never seen him do. My son is a bit of a goofball, and he needs some growth in the area of focus, but I think this will be improved with time in these classes. You get gymnastics, physical conditioning, the art of martial arts and some life skills all in one. What more could you ask for? Well, there is one thing I wish they had. In this heat wave I wish they had air conditioning! Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, but I almost wish I could give 4.5 stars because I know that's kind of trivial. It's just when we have to also be present outside and it's 99 degrees, yikes! Yes we could miss a class or two, but that's not what Master Gus would suggest ;). And I agree, if they are willing and get water breaks, they're fine. Maybe I'm just complaining because I'm the one who is hot haha. Try it out! Start at 4 years old! My other son can't wait, and we already had to buy him a tae kwon do uniform on Amazon because big brother had one and he wanted to join (but can't yet as he just turned 3). When we first casually walked by Yangs Martial Arts, my daughter was 5 years old and she said "dad can we go look inside?" We were immediately greeted by Sir Gus the owner and Martial Arts Master. He was super nice and welcoming. 10 years later my little girl is not little anymore! She is 15 and a 3rd degree black belt!! The training she received had an amazing butterfly effect. My daughter is also a Varsity Swimmer, varsity water polo player and a national mountain bike rider on the Bear National Team. Her professional world class mountain bike coach said the martial arts training is why she is so good! She is confident, has amazing balance and is confident. My son is also in the program with master Gus, he started when he was 4! He is 8 now and is currently n track to earn his 1st degree black belt! I have lived in Larkspur for coming up on a year and would constantly go on runs by this place. Never looking in, but judging it from the outside. Thinking, what is that, must be silly, it's not Jujitsu, then eventually forgot about it all together on my daily runs. Recently, I took up a nanny position in town, turns out one of the young boys (6th grade) ends up going there. So, yesterday after many times of just dropping him at the door I made my way in to purchase him a bigger shirt. So glad I did. It was the cutest, structured, loving, accepting environment. Keep in mind I may have only been inside 20 minutes. However, within the 20 minutes there were young girls and boys speaking respectfully to their Sir? (Not sure what they were always saying in Japanese). There was one boy who couldn't seem to hold it together quite so much but the man running the place treated him with dignity even though the little stinker looked like a handful.
