For Halloween this year a few of us decided to do something different. We saw an ad about a costume…read moreparty happening at a paint and sip store in Bethlehem and thought: why not? I've been hoping to nurture my creative side and doing it while drinking might help get my juices flowing. Their website boasts a whole array of paintings, there are pretty landscapes, rustic designs and some fun and festive ones, priced around $25-45 each depending on the length and difficulties. I saw a few more challenging ones that I'm very interested to satisfy my type-A personality. There's also one that you can install some lights to shine through the canvas. I'm definitely going to sign up for that. Since it's a BYOB, we went to buy two bottle of wines, dressed up in our costumes and headed out to check this out. It was located in an unassuming strip mall on Nazareth Pike. We were met with very pleasant staff who dressed as zombies and zombie hunter while assuring us that they usually look more normal, ha! The manager painted himself as Vincent Van Gogh' self portrait, I thought to myself that we were in for a creative night. The painting itself was a gloomy zombie walk in a grave yard. It lends itself to some fun shadow work. The host taught us how to paint it step by step with funny anecdotes and games in between while we refill our wine glass every now and then. Two hours flew by and everyone finished their paintings on time. I think we all left satisfied. My other friends later saw my handiwork and commented on it and I think we'll come back to try other ones. What a fun hobby to pick up!

I have been attending The Journey Home on many Sundays and Thursdays over the past three years. It has been transformative for me. I am creating an "altered book" and never would have thought I would be using such cool, new techniques. Bonnie is easy to talk with and she is extremely patient. Oh, and incredibly knowledgeable!! This is a truly incredible gem in the heart of Easton.

The Allentown Art Museum is a fantastic place to spend and hour or two. The permanent collection is…read morevaried with lots of types of art to look at and enjoy, and the rotating exhibits keep your visits fresh and interesting if you're a repeat customer. I say "customer" but it's actually free to visit which is amazing and a great way to encourage the community to immerse themselves in art. There's a fun children's room too on the second floor to keep kids active if wandering the exhibit rooms isn't for them. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the giftshop has all kinds of unique items that you'd expect to find in a museum giftshop. I try to stop in anytime I'm in Allentown...it's an artistic oasis in the city.

The Pottery Zone used to be in Washington, NJ but has since moved into a bigger studio in…read morePhillipsburg and has become more inclusive to just pottery making. You can also make jewlery and take wheel, drawing, etc classes. It has become a large art studio! But the paint-your-own pottery is still the focus! I love the woman who owns the place (can't remember her name). She is soooo friendly and helpful! This is a pay-per-piece studio where you pay for your piece plus a standard studio fee and you can take as much time as you need! If you want to come back and finish your piece, that's not a problem! You are provided a color chart (so you will see what the glazed colors come out as) and some magazines for inspiration. There is also stencils and sponges available. Last time we were there, she found a picture of something online and printed it out for someone to trace onto their piece! So helpful! She also takes the time to explain how colors will change when the piece is fired and which brushes to use, etc. This is great for beginners! At the same time, my friend and I are recognized by the owner now, so when we come in she is still helpful but also understands that we know the basics. She is always available if we have any questions though. She is also friendly in general to just chat with. The pieces are fired and can be picked up in a week. Every piece I've done with this studio has come out great! The quality of the pieces (most are made right there) and the firing is excellent! If you're looking for a fun group activity, definitely do this! On Friday nights, you can reserve a "ladies night" and it's byob!
