We were greeted warmly on a weeknight at Marilucia. The decor is dated, which I didn't mind too…read moremuch, but the ladies' restroom was out of order and the gents' was out of soap, which didn't leave a great first impression. Their pizzas came highly recommended on Facebook, so we ordered two, plus a side salad. Perhaps my expectations had been built up too much prior to our arrival, but they didn't particularly blow me away. The salad leaves were fresh enough, though it was a very simple salad (cucumbers, some lettuce, and carrot shavings on top) that was left undressed for us to add our own balsamic vinegar and oil to. The pizzas were tasty and of a very generous size - one would be enough for two to share. My overall impression? Okay for an evening if left with no other option, but not necessarily a place I'd be aching to get back to any time soon. Might return for a pizza to take away though!

If you want to make pasta there is a wide variety of fresh and frozen. If you need olives, they've got you covered. The shop even sells ice cream, coffee, wine and other canned goods. Of course no Italian delicatessen is complete without a selection of breads and Da Mario will not disappoint. What I like about this shop is that the staff is warm and knows a thing or two on Italian cuisine. If you purchase fresh pasta they will tell you how to cook it to perfection and will even suggest a number of sauces or meats to go with it. Da Mario offers all the fixins for a proper Italian meal, from the starters to the main course to the dessert, I like one stop shopping, especially when it's done with a smile!

By the shop window there are a couple of tables which are perfect for sitting down with a cup of tea and choosing one of these delicious treats to nibble on. Or if you're feeling extra extravagant then try one of their Valrhona hot chocolates- though beware, these are only for true chocoholics and pack a a fairly bitter punch. What I love about this shop is that the staff is helpful and friendly and offers lots of suggestions when you are buying cheese, Caroline really knows her stuff. Whenever I go into the shop I feel a bit overwhelmed because I'm never exactly sure what I want, I love that I can tell them what I like and they have several selections instantly in mind. When I say that La Fromagerie is more than a cheese shop it means they sell other things. You can pick up a dessert or order a cappuccino. They even have a few tables to sit and enjoy a drink and if you love the smell of cheese you will certainly enjoy that. The shop isn't very big and it doesn't take many people before it starts to feel crowded. Despite that, it's a warm environment and I don't mind wiggling around a few folks as I happily exit the shop with my purchases.
