Cushions (nice ones!) £3 - £7, depending on size. Furniture included kitchen table and chair sets, night stands, foot stools, comfy chairs and couches, and I don't think anything was over 500. Near the back were tonnes of rugs in various sizes and for various rooms. Smaller items like dishware (a full set for £8! ... Maybe they did a study and 8 is the price that sounds like a really good deal to most people), jewellery boxes and clocks were also cheap. The key is that nothing really looks like it's from a bargain bin - or, won't once you take it out of the shop. I say, check it out.

There is not an awful lot to say about Rug World other than it is a rug and carpet specialist situated on Church Road in Hove. There are plenty of samples to rub your fingers through, which makes decision making that bit easier. Their range is pretty impressive and the store laid out in a way that means you won't miss any marvellous mats, or regal rugs. Practicality rules the roost at Rug World and you should respect that. The only problem I could find with Rug World is the fact that, well, I simply prefer wood (cue canned-laughter!)

If you already have everything you need in the lounge and bedroom department, they also sell gorgeous kitchen and bath accessories from china, glasses, tea-pots and coasters to candles, soaps and towels. Don't know if they still have any in stock, but last time I went in I fell in love with the wicker bulls head and the Ibride ostrich console table.

They also sell small items of furniture, including some really classy wooden side tables and stools. Christmas is by far the best time to visit the store, as they have all sorts of beautiful decorations for your tree. They have a gorgeous selection, including gold Christmas trees and stars as well as some really beautiful glass decorations in the shape of parrots and other pretty birds. I bought a few last year in turquoise, white and gold and they really transformed my tree! In fact, they're so lovely that I've hung them up in my bedroom all year. Abode is a shop full of things you'd rarely buy yourself...quirky light fittings, gilded bird cages and some really delicate chinaware. It is almost impossible to walk around without starting a mental wish-list, making it the perfect place to start your Christmas list, whilst picking up a few gifts yourself! You can even create your wedding list at Abode! NB. Everything feels a bit delicate, so it's not a great place to bring the kids!

Like all of the above places, you have to spend a bit of time rummaging through the tat to find the diamond in the rough, but here you will leave with a basket full of goods that you never realized you needed, and at a reasonable price. Candles, napkins, notebooks, wool for knitting, picture frames, kitchen ware, bike accessories, stationary...you name it, it's here, and all considerably cheaper than can be found at rival shops close by (Butlers, Cargo, I'm looking at you...). At this time of year it's also laden with Christmas decorations and accessories, and if you are as crazy about Christmas as me, your be sure to leave with enough to cover any sized tree. It's new, cheap and consequently very busy at the moment, but the way the shop is laid out allows for easy movement through the aisles. There are plenty of tills and shop assistants so you won't have to wait long to be served, just bring a large bag to cart all of your bargains home!

When I originally saw this store I thought it was a bit on the small side until I realised it was on 3 floors which significantly increases the space and therefore choices. The guys seem really friendly and are well trained so all your questions will be answered as buying carpets for the first time can be a little bit strange. You know your starting to get old when you have to start worrying about things like this and how annoying is paying for carpet when I could think of a million better ways of spending the money.... Anyway end of rant, this place is cool and a good local shop.

For those looking for a small piece of flooring for a bathroom or single bedroom, they have a great selection of end of roll carpets and vinyl at the front of the store. These starts around £10 and go up to about £100 with the measurements clearly stated.

There's classic Eames chairs, Phillip Starck lights, Tim Dixon chairs, hot pink flock chandeliers and cushions by Nitin Goyal. I could happily buy most of the things in this store but the thing I really, really want is one of their Chesterfield sofas. The first problem is, I don't have a spare three grand. The second problem is, they offer it in about 30 different shades of leather and I can't decide which colour. Should I go black, white or turquize?
