Born in Hong Kong so I have had lots of dim sum in my life. While it is not traditional dim sum, the flavors are solid and tasty. My colleague and I ordered one of the set menus to try a little of everything. The steamed and baked dim sum starters were tasty and beautifully arranged. We had the spicy dumplings to follow, then a number of wok stir fry dishes (beef, chicken, etc), and bok choy. Dessert was a carrot cake and fruit mousse, I ate the mousse and it was very good. Service was quick and attentive. We opted to eat at one of the outdoor tables since it was a nice night outside. However, the garbage trucks driving by and picking up garbage in front of us was not that appetizing. It was nice to people watch from our spot though. The drinks menu was really cool but a lot of options. I opted with a spritzer that had some fruity taste. Overall, I enjoyed our meal. read more

Ambiance- 2 floors - I noticed the main floor was seated with older clientele and the bottom floor was seated with the younger crowd. I never really noticed it at all the restaurants I've dined in, but I thought this was very interesting observation. 3 stars. Literally one of my best meals of 2022. The Wagyu beef puffs and Chilean sea bass shui mai were incredible, I could have eaten like 7 orders of them alone. I also loveee Singapore rice noodles and they were some of the best I've ever had. All of the food was incredible but those were my faves. Seafood truffle dumpling 8.62/10- actually really enjoyed this. Very creamy and I could actually taste the seafood in bites rather than it having been mushed together. The truffle flavor was not overbearing it was the perfect amount Crispy duck quarter 3.65/10- this duck was WAY too dry. Genuinely was not tender or juicy and only tasted good when being put with the onion pancake, cucumber, and lots of the sweet sauce with chili oil. Very disappointed, worst duck I've had in general not even in London Hand pulled noodles 6.78/10- under seasoned but the texture was good. Hand pulled-ness was definitely tasted ha. Needed a bit more soy sauce and the amount of mushrooms was underwhelming. Tasty though. Pork and prawn dumplings 6.10/10- good texture, I like how they were also red. Incredibly flavorful and the combination of pork and prawn was perfect. Tequila and rosé cocktail 6.72/10- this was quite interesting because the flavor of rose was very subtle and just moreso notes. The Don Julio taste was incredibly strong and made it taste moreso like a shot rather than a cocktail. Wayyyy too much ice in this cocktail also. Honestly pretty disappointed as this restaurant seemed to have great reviews and also is apparently Michelin starred. Found the food to be incredibly underseasoned and needed the chili oil for all dishes. This place was shockingly and consistently underwhelming to me. The hope is upscale dim sum. The reality was a fancy and very loud restaurant with some pretty iffy service and dishes that were very hit-or-miss and too pricey to make up for the misses. Reservations are a must here and I was seated promptly when arriving a few minutes before mine. However, no more than 1-2 minutes after seating me, the waitress came to take my order and then aggressively kept coming back every minute or two to try to take my order -- very pushy, when I had never been here before and was hoping to leisurely order throughout my meal. I ended up ordering a la carte because I have dietary restrictions that didn't fit into any of the prixe fixe options. The standout from food was easily the prawn crispy toast - a fried wonton made of prawn and sesame served with a sweet dipping sauce - very filling. The edamame puff had an interesting light, crispy texture but the taste didn't particularly stand out to me. The Chilean sea bass dumplings felt a little overcooked and lacked flavor, disappointing when it used such a nice ingredient. I really liked the crunchy, spicy prawn chips, but also, it would be hard to mess up prawn chips. The standout of the meal was dessert - the avocado passion fruit patisserie was both insta-worthy and delicious. (But keep in mind patisserie is intended to be very small - it was roughly half the size of a cupcake.) My mocktail - the Pink Thyme - was pretty underwhelming for a place that charges as much for NA drinks as ones with alcohol in it and with a restaurant that was just overly loud, I just didn't enjoy the vibe of this place. The food was ultimately fine and I was glad that - unlike the table next to me who spit out one of their dishes and declared it fully inedible - my dishes ranged mediocre to great. No bad dishes, per se, but at this price point, I'd expect them to more consistently hit it out of the park with food, ambiance, and service, and sadly that was not the case. read more

Extremely disappointing. We started with two dishes as we just wanted to try the place to see if they're worth the high price point, didn't order more after tasting. Even ignoring the price, the taste was subpar compared to a typical dim sum place. These two dishes are extremely common and popular so most restaurants get it right... Spicy wontons - 12£ 3/10 flavor, 1/10 for the price/portion 4 small pieces with subpar flavor. It tasted like they just wrapped a pork meatball (hotpot style) in dumping skin? Sauce was ok. Had much better versions at much cheaper places. Har gau - 11£ 6/10 flavor, 2/10 for the price/portion 3 small pieces that tasted okay. I would rank that taste as slightly worse than a typical popular place in Chinatown. Slightly better than the frozen ones For these prices, I believe every dish should be amazing. din tai fung nearby accomplishes this at a much lower price point. Instead we got 2 mediocre dishes which was very surprising. My third time at yautcha and I did it a little differently. Instead of doing the tasting we ordered a la cart. I'll forever dream about the crispy duck. Delicious, flavorful, moist inside and perfect crispy exterior. For the first time I had the soft shell crab-It was astounding! The almonds and fried basil make the flavor amazing. When it comes to dim sum, these guys get it right. Not only that, the restaurant has a trendy vibe and fun atmosphere. I am not a fan or pork so I stuck with seafood, vegetarian, and chicken options. My favorite was the truffle dumpling, wow, bursting with flavor. I added another order because they were that good. The fried rice is also very good. For dessert, I opted for the sesame banana cake. It came with banana ice cream and was absolutely divine. The sesame did not over power the dish and the ice cream was made with real bananas and not just flavoring. Lastly, the vibe is awesome. Michelin starred Chinese food? Yes, please. This isn't your typical, cart pushing dim sum experience. This is a fancy, high-end Chinese restaurant with beautiful decor and fantastic service. I made reservations (highly recommended to do so) for lunch and went for one of the tasting menus. We chose the Festive menu priced at £78/per person. My husband and I were full by the 4th dishes (out of 6, including the dim sum). The most memorable dishes were: scallop and prawn shu mai, stir fry scallop, stir fry rib eye beef, and baby pak choi (similar to bok choy, but it's a different plant!). All of the food came out in a timely manner and our server thoroughly explained each dish to us. Since it was our wedding anniversary trip, they also provided us with a complimentary dessert which was a sweet touch. Exceptional dim sum experience. It's very different from the traditional dim sum that we have back home in Los Angeles: so there weren't any ladies pushing carts with steaming food around and it definitely was not loud. When we walked in, the hostess took our coats and sat us down. The interior was dark, moody and modern. We then ordered tea and dim sum from a menu. We ordered the deluxe platter and a la carte sticky rice in bamboo leaves. The ingredients they use aren't your traditional dim sum, it was more expensive ingredients and looked almost artistic. It's one of the most interestingly decorated places in Soho (especially the venue downstairs). Food is exsquisite, and very creative and the staff are always very well trained and helpful. Our last stop in London, and quite possibly one of the best one. Treat this as high end Asian tapas, you'll be ordering many, varied small plates and if our experience there signals anything, everything will be tasty. The long and short of it: 1. Food: There was nothing that was super off the wall from any other high end Asian affair, except the Crystal spicy scallop dumpling. Get the Crystal spicy scallop dumpling. Then order like 17 other things because everything from the other dumplings to the pan fried turnip cake was delicious. Great for vegetarians, but that comes with Asian cuisine. Still nice. 2. Atmosphere: The surroundings are not usually this high on the list, but Yauatchas really impressed me. Think a cross between an LA night club and a high end sushi bar. Maybe throw in a dash of aquarium and you've got a fun, eclectic space to have a great meal! 3. Drinks: Touching on the upscale bar atmosphere, get ready for fancy schmancy cocktails! Ginger martinis and blue gin drinks abound, and there are plenty to choose from. It will add a bit of expense to an already pricy meal but you're there so you ight as well treat yourself. 4. Service: The service was the one downside to our experience, not anything terrible but still not great. We found it pretty hard to flag anyone down and there was overly ample time between seating, ordering and meals, I assume because it was super busy. But it seems like a place that will always trend on the busy side, so be aware. 5. Price: Yauatcha is expensive, you're paying for the atmosphere along with the good food after all. Also the Pound... yeesh. 6 - 7 dishes plus drinks ran us around $160 USD, not cheap. That being said I thought our meal was well worth the elevated price and would be back again. Yauatcha checks enough of the boxes and was good enough of an experience that I feel comfortable calling it a must visit when in London. But I love Asian food and upscale bars so I'm probably biased. I was so excited to return to Yauatcha. I have been there once before on my last trip to London, but previously during that trip I had the worse food poisoning ever (almost a week long). I was finally feeling a little better the day I went to Yauatcha, but not enough to enjoy more than a couple bites of each dish. Everything I tried then was so delicious that I knew I had to return. Fast forward two years to Tuesday this past week. We were seated a little ahead of their lunch rush with no wait, and no shortage of tables insight. We were given menus but not offered any water. And we waited. And waited. And waited. At least 10-15 minutes went by before we flagged someone down for water, and then waited some more. Nothing. At least another five minutes went down before we flagged someone down trying to find a server to take our orders. Someone was thrown on our table and made it very apparent that we were a severe inconvenience to him. He did not say hello. He did not tell us anything about the menu/coursing (our server on our previous trip had been wonderful and very knowledgeable). There was plenty of space in front of our table or next to either of us. He just stood behind us so we had to turn around to place our orders, which I found to be extremely rude. And then we never saw him again. Our dumplings came out promptly. They were tasty but I wasn't floored by them. It would have been better to have more variety but with a server who wasn't very communicative it was hard to get much out of him regarding suggestions on what to get. (For example, I mentioned I didn't eat pork, so he suggested the shrimp and pork dumpling). Our noodle dish arrived easily 20-30 minutes after we had finished everything else, and only after asking someone for it. The noodles (the one with shrimp/scallops/peanuts) were so bland and were served with an old dried out browning lime we were suppose to squeeze on the noodles for flavour. No thank you. We were too annoyed for dessert. At the end of the meal we asked for the bill and they had the gall to include service charge as part of the meal for two people. After my first experience I recommended this restaurant to so many people, but based on this most recent experience I very much doubt I will return. read more

Given that I had bookmarked over 70 restaurants in London, we probably would never have made it to Yauatcha if not for its primo location in Soho. But after walking past its mysterious deep-sea-blue glass doors for the umpteenth time shuttling between hip cafes like Flat White to the Taiwanese bistro BAO and to boutiques disguised as industrial warehouses selling designer sunglasses or men's shirts, I noticed their patisserie display case and gave up the fight. The Michelin star (and the fact that it was 2pm and our third meal of the day) put off my partner. "Please, we'll just get one dimsum plate and one dessert. And maybe a macaron." Walking in, the atmosphere was like that of a swanky hotel bar, if it were underwater or in some sort of Chinese art collector's castle cellar. Dark walls everywhere, from grey brick like a medieval Japanese castle, to dark glass illuminated with blue spotlights to give you the sense of submersion with rays of sunlight reaching you from the surface. Sleek grey leather chairs and tiny tables that look more suited for lounging than for supporting you through a marathon meal, but don't be mistaken--they have a full dinner menu. ---- DIMSUM ---- Char Siu Bao: 4.5 stars Really tasty, refined small buns, but you can get similar ones at any respectable dim sum chain in Singapore. ---- PATISSERIE ---- Strawberry Meringue: 4.5 stars £9 but comes with sorbet. Very fun atmosphere and they did become packed very fast upon our arrival. They have very high quality dumplings served as you order them, no cart here. They come about 3 per order, more on some items. The selection is about as good as a dumpling house can get. Really fresh stuff and they stand out for a reason. I also tried their chicken soup which was excellent. They have awesome desserts, you can look as them on display. We tried the macaroons that were a lovely way to finish our meal. Great dim sum, traditional and inventive at the same time, not your typical dim sum, has the traditional favorites and also their new takes on preparation. For example the duck is not the typical roasted duck and is confit, but has the traditional pancakes and fixings. The Sichuan spicy dumplings were spot on, siew long bao is Iberian pork. Dim sum is not typically something I expect to be served at dinner. At Yauatcha, that is not the case. And they did a great job. We tried a wide variety of items: Har gau, shiu mai, fun gou, cheung fun, crab dumpling, sticky rice, chinese mustard greens, and crispy duck. Everything was delicious. Higher end and certainly more expensive dimsum in Soho area, we stopped in before attending a musical matinee. They initially seated us downstairs but it was darker and relatively empty so we asked to be moved upstairs. We ordered a lot as anytime I am with my family, we tend to order a majority of the menu. For dimsum, we had the Chilean sea bass dumpling which had prawn, ginger and spring onion. Edamame truffle dumpling was one of my favorites as it had a crunch with the water chestnut, yam bean. The lobster dumpling had ginger and shallot, but underwhelming. The Seafood black truffle dumpling was another favorite of mine, as it consisted of crab, scallop, prawn but anything with truffle is usually delicious. Also classic prawn har gau with bamboo shoot. My family also had char siu cheung fun, Szechuan wonton, Szechuan waygu siew long, duck rolls. It was a lot of small plates for lunch. We over ordered and had to rush for our musical and took the egg fried rice, kwetio noodles and pak Choi to go as was so full and running late. Glad to have tried this dimsum as they had a variety of seafood dumpling options that are not as commonly available and most were quite tasty. With a return to London this summer, I had to come back and try different dishes and once again was amazed! Everything was tasty and there were options for those of us who are vegetarians that were equally fantastic. The BEST DIM Sum!!! Super high end, and fancy. Lol. First things first, I'm not from London so we couldn't find the restaurant which made me even more hungry lol. We eventually did and luckily got a table immediately as we walked in. It is alittle high end but we were in jeans and had no issues with dress code. Service was alittle rocky in the beginning, we weren't sure who our waiter was as one guy asked if we wanted water then another guy brought the water, and then none of them came back after that. We contemplating leaving due to the fact that no one visited our table for about 10 mins. Just before we got up a gentleman from the kitchen stopped by our table and asked if we had been served once we told him no, he took care of us for the entire time. Kudos to that guy! We ordered sake yum yum. We got the... Ughhh..I can't remember the names BUT the king crab, the shrimp, the shrimp cheung fun (ugh I'm butchering that I'm sure check my pic) and the Lobster dim sum 2 orders of each. The flavor and freshness is unbelievable and the taste has me googling dim sum near me in Florida . If you visit London or if you live there, go and check them out.
