The magazine takes more of a liberal stance, as its audience consists mainly of a 20-35 age demographic. The best part about Vue is their focus on the arts scene in Edmonton. Whatever is news in film, music, or performing arts, they have it covered. Find towards the back of the magazine their weekly lists of art galas, live music performances and concerts, movie and play listings, as well as plenty of reviews on new films and shows as well. There may be no funny comics section or half-naked Sunshine Girl/Boy to wake you up in the morning, but it's still a great alternative to the mainstream print media out there. Plus, it's free and you can usually find one of their magazine dispensers around town, especially around campus.

They aren't afraid to have opinions when they right their articles and it doesn't feel as if they are censoring themselves. Some other papers just display the facts without giving any real opinion on what is going on, but Vue has a backbone. It gets risky when it needs too. I still think See is a bit better when it comes to talking about local events but Vue is a great read and not bad to browse through.

It is like most of the little papers and magazines in the city with a bit more focus on fashion and local entertainment.

It profiles local talents, local products, and local events. The only thing I don't like about Avenue is it tends to cater to people with large disposable incomes. The products that are advertised are usually high end products. I like reading Avenue to keep up on my city. They are free and you can check out the website to see where you can pick one up.

I have seen recent copies of the paper and am glad to note the more sophisticated feel it has now, both in terms of the writing and layout. Back in my day, things were very irreverent to the point of being insulting, and in fact, that was a reason I left the paper after only my second year of university. A campus paper should push the edges of controversy, but it is possible to go too far, and student journalists sometimes don't have the maturity or experience to admit they made a mistake. However, I am glad to see the paper thriving.

Rob and Audie have their morning show and are veterans in the business. They should get rid of the Morning Mindbender though. They ask a question and have people calling in with their guess. With the internet, most people can just find the answer. I also liked Shane Michaels with the afternoon show. They have the Hall of Fame weekends and will play songs from featured artists. I became bored with the repeated songs, and found a new radio station that is now my main one. I will still listen to CapFM when nothing is good on the other station I tune into. They also have a great listener club that you can accumulate points and redeem for event tickets.

Anyone can work at the radio station, you can even work on getting your own show! They have equipment and support, mentors and veterans who can help you learn anything you want about radio. I want to learn how to write ads for radio, record them and edit them. I want to learn how the gear is all setup, how to record a session when an artist comes in and how to be a DJ. All of this is available to me, all DJs are volunteers and pretty passionate about being there at all hours. They contribute in many ways, and are approachable and helpful. K97 and Capital FM getting ownership from NewCap to Stingray in 2018 was a bust and canning Melissa Wright after so many years was a dirty move. Terry and Pete is an ad-filled snooze fest morning compared to Terry/Bill/Steve 10 years ago The worst part is the repetitiveness, every hour is the same garbage pop music by The Tragically Hip, The Beatles, and Queen. Every few hours you might hear something finally good off of Led Zeppelin IV or The Wall, then back to more repetitive pop music. It's not a rock station if you hear Stairway to Heaven, Comfortably Numb, etc once every 2-3 days yet hear Bohemian Rhapsody what seems like 4x daily. It's seriously a stretch to call "Here comes the Sun" by the Beatles, "Lucy in the sky with Diamonds", and half the whiny music the Tragically Hip play as rock music. You can clearly tell these guys are milking The Tragically Hip to hit CanCon minimums, 5 years ago they would play BTO twice an hour and now instead it's Tragically Hip twice an hour. Try playing Chilliwack, Streetheart, Prism, etc more to hit those CanCon minimums Only thing that makes K97 bearable anymore is Rock of the West at night when people request actual good music, otherwise I have Spotify on until 7pm
