Being new to the neighborhood, this is such a treasure to find. The gentleman behind the counter had wonderful customer service. Even though we came about 15 minutes before they closed to take a quick peek, we didn't feel rushed out or bothersome. He let us know immediately about the sales going on and then let us be. I LOVE that! I also saw him help other customers who needed lots of guidance and he was really patient. They have an awesome selection of used books and they're organized pretty well! If we had more time, we would have soaked in every area. It's a small shop but it's packed with pretty much every genre. They even had a SUPER great kids area where they had classics and new stuff, I was really impressed. My kid will be SPOILED with this store! The prices are UNBEATABLE! They have new books as well but I bet you won't even bother once you see those $3-$8 prices on books you'll LOVE!!! We will definitely be back! read more

Wonderfully curated assortment of used books in a nice, somewhat funky downtown bookstore. I did even make it to the bottom of the entry ramp before I found several books of interest in the sports, music, and entertainment sections. Desperate collections for teen/ young adult books, and for kids books. Prices clearly marked on all books. If they had left a stereo on I might still be browsing. The world needs more bookshops like Yellow Dog: charming and cozy without being kitschy or cramped, with a useful and relevant collection of books that's neither too mainstream nor too hipster. Also, their window decorations are usually pretty fantastic, so that's a big plus right there! One thing I love about this bookshop is that you can sell your own old books for trade credit at the store, enabling all you bookworms to part with some of your oldies while getting some new gems for your collection. You could also sell books for cash, I believe- or simply donate to help support a local business with vision and heart! From time to time, Yellow Dog hosts poetry readings or other creative writing presentations, giving a great chance for the Columbia literary community to come together in support of its own artists. Yellow Dog may be just a small bookshop, but its character and heart are huge. Don't miss this lovely little nook in downtown CoMo. read more

I had a couple of hours wait while my dog was being tested for cancer at U of MO vet school so I went in search of comfort (a book store). This store did not disappoint. It is well organized and had an excellent selection of books to choose from. I settled on a book about Oscar Wilde but found many others that caught my eye and enjoyed browsing. I would go out of my way to visit this shop again. The location is great. Near food (I found a great juice, smoothie place nearby). There are also stores displaying local artists wares for sale. Cool area to walk around in. For the dog lovers reading this, test results were negative. read more

Excellent local bookstore! They have a wide range of literature from the Steve Jobs biography to Revolutionary Girl Utena, the deeply symbolic feminist theory manga. Their prices are superb and they have good sales frequently. I highly recommend coming here if you want to support local business and buy any good book for a fair price. read more

Despite it being a small bookstore, it holds a lot. There was something for everyone in my party that day and we have vast interests. Knitting, cookbooks, biographies, true crimes, Missouri history, Missouri authors. You name it, it seems he has it. The owner was very helpful and personable. read more
