UMEZUSHI-SAKELISTIC-SUSHISKILLS-EXPLOSIVE!
Tucked away in a little back alley just 2 minutes walk from Victoria Station is one of Manchesters hidden gems. Its name? Umezushi.
I had never heard of this restaurant until I was invited to dine there with on a Yelp event!
On the outside, it's cute, simple exterior belies the amazingly artistic and complex creations that go on inside.
It is only a small place, so booking is a must to ensure you have a table. Inside is simple and clean, there around 6-8 small tables to sit at and a bar at which you can sit and watch the masters create the little pieces of art.
We had a sample menu, with 5 different courses and 5 different Sake.
If you don't know how each Sushi dish or Sake differs from the next one, one of the expertly versed and very passionate front of house staff will explain each to you and how they differ from each other.
We had Pickled Veg Hosomaki rolls, Salmon/Swordfish Nigiri and Kimchi/Unagi Uramaki rolls. Each of these courses was accompanied with a different Sake.
My particular favourite was the Unagi (Eel) Roll and the very fruity, fresh smelling, smooth tasting Sake called KATAFUNE JUNMAI.
I couldn't help but think it smelt like a lovely New Zealand white wine and tasted delicious! It went perfectly with the Sushi and I could happily drink a full bottle whilst chilling out here.
The sushi that arrived was deliciously fresh, popping with flavour and each dish looked amazing, almost too good to eat! But eat it I did...Every last bit of it!
There are plenty of options on the menu including Wagyu beef steaks and if you are feeling adventurous King Crab Hotpot.
In short, this place should be busting at the seams every night. So if you want a true Sushi experience, with expert staff at a reasonable price, look no further than Umezushi! read more
