A truly satisfying meal. This used to be a regular spot for us when we visited our daughter in college. They always served up a wonderful meal. Turn the clock forward a decade and guess what, the food is still outstanding and the service is still attentive and kind. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive for us so we were good and hungry when we got into town. The owner greeted us warmly and a friendly server (her son), came by to help us. We decided to order: Hot & sour soup - heaven in a big bowl. Savory broth filled with delicious ingredients. It was well flavored, not too spicy or tangy Mu shu chicken - 4 pancakes with hoisin sauce. Our server wrapped our first ones for us. The dish contained the typical scrambled egg, sliced cabbage, protein, etc and it was fresh and tasty Beef with asparagus -noted in the entry that asparagus was in season so we had to order it. Meat was tender and the asparagus was cooked beautifully House chow mein - Fried perfectly and not doused in a bunch of sauce or oil. The protein on this dish was plentiful and it was simple and delicious. I loved how they didn't add chives/green onion to these dishes. The hot & sour soup had a few little green onions for color but this is the first time I've been to a Chinese restaurant that doesn't overfill the dishes with onions (as I don't like onions). We came to Yen Du on a Friday night during the dinner rush and were pleasantly surprised that we were seated fairly quickly. They put us in the back area with two large tables, which was nice and gave us a bit more space. Our server was attentive and did a great job keeping our water glasses refilled, which we appreciated. We ordered the pork fried rice, beef with broccoli, and spicy green beans. The spicy green beans were definitely the standout and the best dish of the night. That said, I felt some of the other dishes could have used more seasoning or salt, as they came across a bit bland. I haven't been to Yen Du in years, so maybe my expectations were higher, but it didn't quite wow me this time around. Overall, it was an okay experience. Searched for a Chinese restaurant in the Stockton area while visiting family and decided to give this place a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the food! The wonton soup was flavorful, and the salt and pepper pork chop was crispy and well-seasoned--slightly toasty, but still delicious. The house fried rice was decent, though nothing particularly special. The shrimp in lobster sauce, however, was excellent. All the dishes were made fresh to order, so it took a little while for the food to come out, which is understandable. It was also a busy Saturday evening, and there was only one server working, so the restaurant had to turn people away once it filled up. 11/26/25 - I was undecided as usual as to what I want. I had to go home for a bit & thought I was going to get the last of the pizza, but my son beat me to it!! Now, I am out spending my money, trying hard not to eat out as much as possible!!! I had to bring my sister-in-law to the Honey-Bake Store for some last minute changes to our Thanksgiving dinner. While she was in a long line, I left her and came here. Once I got in the lot I could not find the easy parking I have been used too. I had to go out and come back in. There were two open spots that opened that quick. Someone was hosting a big dinner party; more people came in after I placed my usual order of Beef Chow Fun & pot stickers. The owner was busy, busy and so was her son. What I did notice was the owner wasn't as fuzzy as she has been in my years of coming either to dine-in or pick-up. I heard a family say they had to come pick-up their food because there was no Door Dash service. That was also my sister-in-law's problem with the honey-baked ham, she was told that it could be delivered, but it never came, so she called and found out there is no service tonight. Actually I don't know why people would depend on Door Dash to work doing the holidays. Yen Du has not changed still the same set-up. The tables are always clean and for the most part set-up waiting for the next customers. The cost of my meal has changed significantly over the years. I got used to paying less than $20.00 for both items, but because of our economic situation my meal was $26.05. It was worth it, very tasty and hot!!! I can never complain about this food being cold. I would have liked to have the red, hot sauce but I forgot to ask for it. It gives it even more flavor and I like it spicy. read more

This places get pretty packed during lunch. It was our first time trying out this restaurant in the area and we enjoyed our experience here. Came here on the middle of the day. Parking was very limited in front of the restaurant but fortunately we got a spot right away. As soon as we entered, we noticed all the decor. Chinese art, colors, designs and furniture, definitely gave the feel of an authentic Chinese restaurant. We were sat immediately. Our server was absolutely amazing. He was pretty much the only one taking orders and serving each table. As busy as he was he always had a smile and was friendly. When ordering we had previously seen a picture of a soup but we didn't notice it on the menu. When we asked our server about it, he advised us of what it was (it was a custom order by previous customers), and he offered to make it again. Needless to say it was delicious. Serving size for the soup was big and we were able to split it amongst three people each with a generous serving size. The rest of the food was just as awesome. I called and picked up a couple of items to bring to my aunt and uncle's home on one of my occasional visits. I don't know the food scene out in this town, so I just went with what was close to their neighborhood that had good ratings. Enter Yen Du. First off it is in a very weird strip, almost like a storage/warehouse type of strip. The parking lot is narrow and one way and you have to go completely around the building in order to get out. But inside looks like a Chinese restaurant would like back in the 80's out in the Bay Area, where they would actually try and create an ambiance to match the menu. When I was growing up going out for a Chinese meal was kind of a special occasion thing, like someone had a bday, a graduation or a promotion. There was often tablecloths, a large table with a lazy susan, nice laterns or lighting and nice and heavy plates and bowls. Now a lot of that charm is gone but this place gave me glimpses from those days. Another thing that was glaring to me was that I was probably the only customer that had an Asian background. I thought Stockton was a bit more diverse, as I haven't seen that in a Chinese restaurant out in the Bay Area since the 80's. It was a trip. Lol. House Chow Mein ($14/3.5*) Good amount of thicker lo mein noodles which I like as it is chewier and has meatier bites. Not a whole lot of wok hei but they definitely use a bit of soy to darken and flavor the noodles. Good amount of meat chunks a combo of shrimp, pork and chicken I believe. But those proteins didn't have that vibrant sear from a hot wok, just seemed all steamed in that sauce to me. Nothing horrible, just not very skillful. Beef with Chinese Greens ($15/3*) I think I asked to see if they had the Beef with Asparagus available in early summer but they didn't. Asparagus is actually grown and quite local to this valley so I thought that it would be quite easy to find it, but not really. So I got this instead. Again, not a lot of searing and just seems they like to make a wet sauce with garlic and soy or oyster sauce and just steam and toss everything. Kinda like a home cook's stir fry versus a legit Chinese chef who can man-handle that wok. Again nothing horrible, just was wishing for more, since their rating was so high. At least now I know how this town rates ethnic food. But still rounding up as the employee who rang me up amongst the line of people waiting to get a table during lunch was efficient and friendly. And my aunt and uncle who aren't foodies by any means was happy with what I brought. I suppose they fit in Stockton just fine. Lol read more
