The sites are pull through and they are reasonably level dirt spots, with a few green oleanders sprinkled about. The check in is easy and uncomplicated. It's Barstow, and did I mention it was only $40? Oh, their restaurant wasn't open so no comment there.

Wanted to see about taking a glider flight but the company is closed on tuesdays. There's a small restaurant at the glider company. I understand it is good. Didn't go tho. I think it closes at 4:30 pm. A REALLY NICE Walmart is about 4 miles away and the small quaint downtown is on the road to the store. Many restaurants nearby. Tehachapi is beautiful but beware of WIND!!

I don't feel it's a 5-star community either, although with some different attitudes and a reduction in "good guy vs. bad guy" mentalities, this might be possible. The community has a lot of elders in it, as well as younger people. When I used to come up from Orange County and visit my parents, the energies of the neighborhoods reminded me of a "Leave it to Beaver" rerun. In some ways, it was so refreshingly innocent. However; after living in Silver Lakes for awhile, some of those old-fashioned energies can become a little cloying. Yep, some of the olders like to volunteer for Community Patrol. I believe it's fun for them, and although maybe it helps keep the community cleaner, it's not really fun for some of the residents. The board meetings are kind of scary. I was elected to a board of directors for a different organization in the past, and I run a board of directors for a non-profit organization now. The way the board meetings responded to a request to talk about relaxing some of the rules in the parks was "my way or the highway" in style...unlike anything I would expect from a respectable board. Are these issues enough to take my review down to a 1-star? Not at all. There's a lot of responsibility to running a 4-star community, and I believe SLA does the best they can with the talent that's available in the high desert.

Town security harasses residents regularly and the association issues heavy fines for any insignificant grievance, even more than what you would see in traffic tickets and such. Overall, the association's fees and fines are overcharged and they treat residents badly.

Let me first say that the owners are nice people and will work with you but....the park is an old…read moreeffort and is pretty run down what with quite old mobile homes in place but not lived in for what appears to be many years. Others are occupied. There are many mature trees which helps. The RV area has nice large spaces under trees but as with any long term facility the people are varied and I will leave it at that. The water pressure is low but "sufficient". These older parks usually suffer from that. We are paying 550 a month with a 100 dollar deposit for electric which is paid seperately. Or $40 / night but call first to make sure there is a space. It is located about 6 miles East of Lucerne Valley ( which has a laundromat with decent prices, and the supermarket / hardware /deli that is new and carries a lot of stuff ) so it is a bit out of the way right on hwy 247 - Old Woman Springs Road.
